Mariah Carey's style evolution
Here's my earliest memory of Mariah Carey: a head full of curls on the cover of her 1990 self-titled debut album. I was gifted the R&B record by my brother Daryl, who purchased it from a mail order CD club (anyone remember those?). By co-penning powerhouse ballads like "Vision of Love" and "I Don't Wanna Cry", Carey established herself as a vocal force to be reckoned with - and as an absolute icon of the '90s.
The New York-native's five-octave range has earned her countless honors, including Grammy, Billboard and World Music Awards. And while her initial venture into film with the 2001 rags-to-riches tale "Glitter" bombed, Carey bounced back as a nearly unrecognizable social worker in the 2009 drama "Precious", for which she picked up the Palm Springs International Film Festival Breakthrough Performance Award.
With a career spanning over two decades as a singer, songwriter, fragrance creator and Jenny Craig spokesmodel, the mother of fraternal twins Monroe and Moroccan with husband Nick Cannon seems to have found her rhythm. (The Huffington Post)
