Mariah "in tears" as another male leaves American Idol
The 12th season of the long-running reality show dismissed another male from its ranks last night, as Devin Velez became the third Top 10 contestant to be axed. The three remaining guys were all in the Bottom Three of the public vote, with the five girls all sailing through to the Top 7 show.
The judges did not opt to use their annual Save option on Velez, but the decision was not unanimous - and it seems fairly obvious that at least Mariah Carey wanted to give the bilingual singer another shot. And she wrote on Twitter after the show: "Ugh. In tears. Devin is a potential superstar, I can't handle it."
Also on last night's results episode, judge Keith Urban performed live for the first time, along with former Idol finalist Colton Dixon. OneRepublic performed their latest single If I Lose Myself with the help of Smash star (and one-time Idol finalist) Katharine McPhee. (Entertainmentwise)
