Mariah Carey posts cute snap of her mini-me daughter

Rumours about an impending divorce may still be swirling. But Mariah Carey is still keeping quiet about details of her separation from husband Nick Cannon. And the 44-year-old singing star is certainly acting as if nothing is happening, posting a cute photo of her adorable daughter Monroe helping with her make-up on Saturday, captioned: "Ms. Monroe begins her cosmetology."

The three-year-old is standing in front of her mother, who is kneeling on the floor, dressed in a cute blue and white striped frock with a blue ribbon in her dark curly hair. Monroe is gently wiping Mariah's forehead with a large make-up brush as she rests her other hand tenderly on her cheek to balance her.

There was no sign of her twin brother, Moroccan, the pair affectionately known in their family as Roc and Roe. Mariah has been busy preparing for her Elusive Chanteuse Tour, which kicks off in Japan in October, and she recently posted a couple of snaps saying simply, "Rehearsing."

Meanwhile, Nick spent the last few days at New York Fashion Week. And on Wednesday, the normally conservatively dressed 33-year-old got into the spirit of the event, wearing long gold chains, funky glasses, a heavy black leather jacket, a white vest and low-rise slacks as he stopped by the Falguni And Shane Peacock show.

It has been suggested that the America's Got Talent host could gain custody of the twins if, in fact, he and Mariah do decide to officially end their six-year marriage. According to a source for Life&Style, the singer's friends and family are worried she may have a mental breakdown as she did in 2001.

And Nick reportedly wants to ensure that his children are in a safe environment. That may include bringing up his estranged wife's past mental instability and present behaviour before a judge in an attempt to secure custody of the kids. "Her drinking has gotten out of control lately," a source said.

New York divorce and family lawyer Raoul Felder told Life&Style: "Mariah has visibly changed so much in one year - she looks wiped out, something isn't right. The judge will take that into account in a custody battle." However, Nick recently took to Twitter to vehemently deny rumours regarding Mariah.

"What infuriates me most is to hear people slander Mariah Carey. I will forever be in debted to her for blessing me with our children," he wrote last Wednesday. "I will always love her unconditionally for this and so much more. Mariah Carey is an amazing mother and I trust her wholeheartedly."

As for her breakdown that resulted in hospitalisation, the Butterfly hitmaker previously told MTV that the situation had been overblown, adding that It was exhaustion - not a breakdown. "I was totally exhausted and I needed to go to sleep and I needed rest and I needed people to leave me alone and stop banging on my freaking door to get up and do a freaking video," she said.

"There has been so much written and reported about me over the past year - and I've been pretty quiet up until now. It wasn't like I went schizo and needed to be put in a straitjacket or tried to kill myself, what they were saying. I just think it's time to set the record straight."

Nick and Mariah are going through a challenging patch in their marriage. Nick reportedly previously said there was "trouble in paradise" when asked about his marriage last month, but now claims this was made-up. "'Trouble in paradise' is the dumbest phrase I've ever heard! I would never say that s***," he tweeted angrily.

Reports emerged last month that Nick had said he and Mariah had been "living in separate houses for a few months" and gave her permission to take their twins out of town. However, Nick is now saying this is not the case, but still failed to mention if he and Mariah were having troubles or not, except for calling it a "difficult time".

"I have personally been absent from social media for the past few months for obvious reasons but I feel the need to finally speak up," he began his rant. "For the record I never have, nor will I make a statement regarding my marriage." However, he later added that the pair are going through a "challenging time". The couple have both been spotted out recently without their wedding bands.
