Brandon Flowers tops UK album chart

Brandon Flowers' album had The Desired Effect, finishing at Number 1 on this week's tally. The Killers' frontman finished 5,000 combined chart sales ahead of his competitor, Paul Weller's Saturns Pattern, which at number two became the former Jam singer's 16th top 10 album.

Meanwhile, last week's chart topper Wilder Mind by Mumford & Sons is at three, Taylor Swift's 1989 holds at 4, and Sam Smith's In The Lonely Hour completes the Top 5. This week also saw a return to the charts for vocal powerhouse Mariah Carey, who earned her first top 10 album in seven years with her retrospective £1 To Infinity coming in at number eight.

Meanwhile, reggae-pop hit Cheerleader has claimed the number one chart spot for the fourth week running in the singles chart. The summer anthem from OMI saw off competition from Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth's See You Again, which rebounds from three to two this week, causing LunchMoney Lewis' Bills to drop a spot.

Taylor Swift scored this week's highest new entry with Bad Blood, coming in at number four. Fifth spot was claimed by Skrillex and Diplo's Where Are You Now, featuring Justin Bieber, which climbed two spaces from last week.
