Mariah charms 007 for role as Bond girl

Singer Mariah Carey is being tipped for a role as a Bond girl in the next 007 movie, Britain's The Sun reports. The singer was offered the role of a baddie in the as-yet-untitled film, the 20th of the spy series, after meeting 007 star Pierce Brosnan at a party in London.

A source close to the star said: "She is really excited. The producers are considering writing a character just for her." Carey, the world's biggest-selling female artist, is steadily carving out an acting niche for herself. She has already appeared in All That Glitters and Wise Girls.

Meanwhile, Eon Productions, which makes the 007 films, has confirmed that Brosnan will retain his licence to kill for a good while yet, Reuters reports. Denying rumours they were looking to replace Brosnan, Eon said producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli "confirm Pierce Brosnan will play James Bond in the forthcoming production and for the foreseeable future".

A report in the British press this week said Scottish actor Gerard Butler had been promised the role whenever Brosnan gave it up.
