Mariah for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
Steve, in regard to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, is Mariah Carey a serious candidate? At worse, she is ridiculed as a wash-up, high maintaince diva known for singing a string of sound-alike fluff ballads. At best, she is a talent (as a singer only) with a track record that is impressive. She is not a rock artist but neither was Bob Marley and he is in. Any thoughts?
Steve Jones: To be eligible for the rock an roll hall of fame, 25 years have to have passed since your first release. Carey debuted with vision of love in 1990, so she's only halfway there as far as that goes. I'm no fan, but her track record of number 1 hits and records sold puts her ahead of a lot of people who are already in. also, if you look at the nominees and inductees over the years, it would seem that the definition of rock and roll and fame worthiness are constantly evolving.
