Mariah Carey christens album

The new Mariah Carey album will be called Charmbracelet. Work is now complete on the record and with the completion Mariah says she was ready to give it a name. "Charmbracelets have always had a personal and sentimental significance for me" she says in a message to fans. "Charms are like pieces of yourself that you pass on to other people... items that tell your story, and that can be shared... like a song. The bracelet represents the foundation of this album, a body of work that encompasses many feelings."

Mariah has been in New York these last few weeks filming a video for the first single "Through The Rain". "The song is personal to me but I hope it will inspire others that you can make it through difficult times as long as you have faith and the right attitude," she says.

Jamie Lynn Sigler from The Sopranos and JD Williams from The Wire star in the video. It is about a romance between an interracial couple and the pressures they have to overcome. Dave Meyers who worked on recent clips for Pink and Jay Z directed the video. The song was written by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. "Through the Rain" is released November 11. "Charmbracelet" comes out December 2.
