Mariah hopes new album is a "charm"

Mariah Carey upcoming album will be titled "Charmbracelet", the artist has revealed on her official Web site. "Charmbracelets have always had a personal and sentimental significance for me," she wrote. "Charms are like pieces of yourself that you pass on to other people... items that tell your story, and that can be shared... like a song. The bracelet represents the foundation of this album, a body of work that encompasses many feelings."

As previously reported, the set is due Dec. 10 and is the first release on Carey's own MonarC Music imprint via Island Def Jam. First single "Through the Rain" rises 24-21 this week on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart. A video for the track featuring actress Jamie Lynn Sigler ("The Sopranos") has already been shot.

"Charmbracelet", the follow-up to Carey's oft-derided "Glitter" album and soundtrack (and her only release for Virgin), finds the artist collaborating with a host of heavy hitters. Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake have contributed their vocals to some tracks, while Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, and Jermaine Dupri have provided production.

On Friday (Oct. 25), Carey will be on hand for Seventeen magazine's "New Star Showcase" to introduce an as-yet-unnamed act she has signed to MonarC. R&B quartet B2K will perform three songs at the event, which will also feature surprise guests. For more information, call the event hotline at 212-204-4258.
