Science is sweet for Mariah

Singer Mariah Carey will make her return to the silver screen in a romantic comedy called "The Sweet Science". Directed by Jordan Brady ("Waking Up In Reno"), the film will see Carey take on the role of a successful female boxer. Word has it that the diva has been getting training and tips from Laila Ali, daughter of boxing great Muhammad Ali.

Rick Angres and Gary Goldman ("Minority Report") take writing credits for the production. Andrea Kreuzhage and Anthony Esposito - who worked with Carey on her previous project, the independent but critically-acclaimed "WiseGirls", will produce.

"Mariah was really keen on playing this role. At first, she was going to play the part of the boxing manager, Gloria, but she insisted on playing the boxer. She's been taking boxing lessons as part of her training," Esposito said.

Filming commences in New Jersey and Canada on Nov. 10. Donald Trump is tipped to make a cameo. "Science" is scheduled for release by Leading Pictures production company in mid-2004. Naturally, Carey will lend her talents to the accompanying soundtrack.
