Rob Thomas vs Mike Jones

Matchbox Twenty's Rob Thomas faces interesting competition for his first solo album's chart debut next week. The lesser known Mike Jones is also selling truck loads. Hits Daily Double is reporting Thomas' "Something To Be" and Jones' "Who Is Mike Jones?" are both tracking around the 200,000 sales mark.

So who is Mike Jones and why did he call his album that? "I used to go to clubs and give DJ's my CD," he remembers. "They'd be like 'who are you?' And I'd be like 'Mike Jones'. And they'd be like 'who?' Mike Jones. Who? Mike Jones." He continues, "Then, I'd go home and tell my grandmomma I gave a couple of DJ's my CD, and they didn't know who I was. She said 'just start saying who? Mike Jones. Who? Mike Jones.'"

Mariah Carey had the number one album in the USA this week. Her "The Emancipation of Mimi" sold around 400,000 units in the first week and could maintain the top spot even with a 50% drop-off in the week two.
