Still comfy at #1
A fourth week at #1 on the Hot 100 makes "We Belong Together" the longest running #1 single for Mariah since the record-breaking "One Sweet Day". The first serious challenger to Mariah comes this week with the release of "Inside Your Heaven" by Carrie Underwood, the latest winner of the American Idol competition. With Mariah's record-breaking airplay and strong sales it will be hard, but not impossible, for Carrie to dethrone her.
Airplay for "We Belong Together" increases yet again pushing the new BDS record to 195.8 million. While the song remains at #1 on both the R&B chart and the Top 40 Rhythmic chart it is still being held back from #1 on the Top 40 Mainstream chart by Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" which is in its sixth week at #1 on this format-specific chart.
As expected a slew of new releases pushes Mariah to #5 on the Billboard 200. This new batch of titles is led by Coldplay's X&Y which makes an explosive debut at #1 giving the band their first #1 on the album survey. Coldplay also holds the top two positions on the Top Pop Catalog Album chart. Mariah on the meanwhile closes in on the 2 million scanned mark and in doing so becomes the third best selling album in this calendar year.
Another Mariah album making news this week is Greatest Hits which once again re-enters the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Catalog Album chart. This time it enters at the #13 position giving it a new peak on this chart. (The Mariah Network)
