Carey rebound keeps Bice from Hot 100 No. 1
He may have the top-selling single in the United States, but "American Idol" runner-up Bo Bice came up short in the overall race for No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100. Bice has to settle for a No. 2 Hot 100 entry for his version of "Inside Your Heaven", a song that "Idol" winner Carrie Underwood took to No. 1 last week.
Holding Bice's debut solo release from the top of Billboard's main singles tally is Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together", which returns to No. 1 after a one-week break. The track, which stems from Carey's Island Def Jam album "The Emancipation of Mimi", has now led the list for five non-consecutive weeks. On the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list, "Together" is in the lead for a sixth week.
But Bice can revel in a couple of No. 1s, as his double A-sided single - "Inside Your Heaven" backed by his version of the Ides Of March's "Vehicle" - is the leader on Billboard's Hot Singles Sales chart, where it makes a 6-1 move. The single takes over the lead as Underwood's "Heaven" drops to No. 2. Bice is also No. 1 on the Pop 100, where Carey's "Together" is No. 2 and Underwood's "Heaven" falls 1-3. On the Hot 100, Underwood's song drops to No. 3.
Breaking into the Hot 100's top 10 this week is the chart's greatest sales gainer, "Don't Cha" by the Pussycat Dolls featuring Busta Rhymes, with an 11-8 move. The cut also climbs 34-29 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Also making a notable Hot 100 stride is Missy Elliott's "Lose Control" featuring Ciara and Fat Man Scoop, which bolts 21-14. The chart's greatest airplay gainer, Bow Wow's "Let Me Hold You" featuring Omarion jumps 28-17, while Ludacris' "Pimpin' All Over the World" buzzes 32-20. Other cuts to watch include Boyz N Da Hood's "Dem Boyz", which jumps 84-62 on the Hot 100 and Natasha Bedingfield's "These Words", which bolts 100-77.
Although Bice's "Heaven" is the Hot 100's top debut at No. 2, it's not the only song bowing on the chart. Also new this week is Common's "Go!" (No. 84), R. Kelly's "Playa's Only" (No. 90), Reba McEntire's "My Sister" (No. 96), the Bravery's "An Honest Mistake" (No. 97), My Chemical Romance's "Helena (So Long & Goodnight)" (No. 98), Sara Evans' "A Real Fine Place To Start" (No. 99) and Alan Jackson's "The Talkin' Song Repair Blues" (No. 100).
Though it falls 4-5 on the Hot 100, in the realm of downloads the Black Eyed Peas' "Don't Phunk With My Heart" remains the most popular, ranking at No. 1 on the Hot Digital Songs chart for a third week. Making the most noise on mobile phones is 50 Cent's "Just a Lil Bit," which advances 2-1 on the Hot Ringtones tally, unseating the Ying Yang Twins' "Wait (The Whisper Song)", which dips to No. 2 after seven weeks.
Rascal Flatts' "Fast Cars and Freedom" is No. 1 for a second straight week on Billboard's Hot Country Songs roundup, while Seether's "Remedy" is on top of the Mainstream Rock airplay list for a third. The Modern Rock airplay chart has a new No. 1 as Foo Fighers' "Best of You" advances two positions to replace Weezer's "Beverly Hills," which falls to No. 2 after one week in the lead.
On Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart, Shakira is No. 1 for a fifth non-consecutive week with "La Tortura" featuring Alejandro Sanz. On the Adult Contemporary airplay list, Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway" is sitting tight at No. 1 for an 18th straight week. (Billboard)
