Katrina blows apart MTV party plans
Katrina crashed the party Friday, two days before the MTV Video Music Awards, turning Miami into the world's largest wet T-shirt contest. "It should have been called Hurricane Diva," said one annoyed party promoter, as the list of celebrity cancellations mounted. "Lindsay Lohan was meant to host a private dinner, but she ended up not coming down. Nicole Richie canceled, too. They were supposed to host, like, a million parties."
Kanye West and Jessica Simpson (sans Nick Lachey) did a round of events that included Ricky Martin's bash at the "Hotel MTV" and a party for Mariah Carey (who chatted at the event with Eddie Murphy), which had to be hastily relocated from a vulnerable yacht to the Raleigh Hotel. "Mariah was wearing an orange one-piece, which was basically a skirt and a bra top," laughed one guest. "She's clearly not using [Vogue editor-at-large] Andre Leon Talley as her stylist anymore."
