Mariah faces lawsuit over "Thank God I found you"
As she preps her first major film role, Mariah Carey now has a legal distraction to worry about. The songbird is being sued by a pair of songwriters who claim that her hit "Thank God I Found You" borrows heavily from "One Of Those Love Songs," a track recorded by Xscape in 1998.
Seth Swirsky and Warren Campbell filed a lawsuit against Carey on Friday in Los Angeles charging the singer, her record label, and producer Terry Lewis with copyright infringement and false designation, among other accusations. A spokesperson for the U.S. District Court of the Central District of California noted that the plaintiffs had yet to outline the damages they are seeking in the case.
The lawsuit comes as Carey is working on "All That Glitters," a film that is expected to hit theaters in March 2001. In addition to her on-screen work, Carey is also working with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis on a number of songs for the film. (MTV News)
