Mariah Carey donated fur coats to PETA - how about you?

The law of supply and demand... that 5th grade lesson we all had to learn in school. It is so easy as a consumer to not think about or be aware of the entire process of goods we buy. After all, we are not the ones running factory farms for fur.

The truth is if there is little or no demand for fur as fashion those factory farms that sadistically skin animals alive to sell the pelts for fashion - wouldn't exist. Look at history; back in the Stone Age humans killed animals to survive themselves. They ate the meat and used fur to keep warm. It was "Darwinism" in its truest form, "survival of the fittest".

Living in the second millennium I need to ask: why are people still killing animals for fashion? You can call me a "tree-hugging liberal" or any other name you like but just step back a minute and think about it. Do you need to wear the skin of another mammal? Aren't there many other options that can keep you just as warm and well dressed?

If the fact Nazi's made lamp shades from the skin of the Jews they killed in concentration camps during WWII revolts you - why doesn't wearing the pelts of an animal disturb you?

Mariah Carey was given two fur coats from a Russian millionaire fan estimated at between $7,500 to $9,000. Kudos to Carey for "emancipating" those fur coats by donating them to PETA which accepts fur items in the battle against fur fashion by using them in anti-fur campaigns and also donates them to the homeless here and abroad as well as using them for animal bedding.

Thank you Mariah Carey for setting the example... how many of you out there will stand up and do the same? One good reason: it is tax deductible; another reason is because it's just the right thing to do. Mail your fur items to:
