It's just a photo (80,536) by Billy from Greece
I can't even know what to say about the flood of commentary following one simple photo of Mariah in the studio. For crying out loud, it's just a photo of her in the studio. Someone wrote she's a mess. Where's the mess exactly? Just because she's holding a glass of wine she's having a breakdown or something? Or does this mean she's not taking music seriously? What do you think music making is, going to school? Do I have to remind you of legends like Marvin Gaye who wrote masterpieces while being stoned? And I'm not even implying that MC is or should be stoned to write music, but do you really know what exactly has gone behind the scenes behind some of your favorite hits? My goodness.

The waning creativity (80,535) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Although she was not that much of a statement artist, Mariah at her prime still had something to say. She was young, eager to prove herself and full of many ideas that were rarely original or risque, but fresh nonetheless. And then life happened and she eventually found it more challenging to find new things to write and sing about. So, like most artists do, she stuck to love and relationship themes. Nothing wrong about that - Mariah has a way of looking at relationships from angles that aren't commonly explored, or if they are common, she has a way of presenting her ideas in a way that's not as cliched as other artists would usually do. At times the results were inspired or at least interesting (It's A Wrap, Betcha Gon' Know, I Wish You Well, Faded, etc.) and sometimes they were just banal or at least let down by the production (You're Mine, More Than Just Friends, Infinity, Infamous, etc.). I think this is normal especially for legacy artists. Even Madonna, the very definition of a statement artist, has shown signs of this. Like Mariah, she hasn't really produced a creatively noteworthy album that could be considered a classic since 2005. Madonna, though, is more disciplined, and the one thing that hasn't changed about her through the years is that she's always on the lookout for the new sound, the next big thing and always wants to collaborate with producers she hasn't worked with in the past, whereas Mariah relies mostly on familiarity and the comfort it gives her, sticking to the same ole people, therefore resulting in pretty much just updated versions of songs from TEOM and MOAIA. But creativity is still innate in them, and while MIAMTEC and Rebel Heart were mostly steps in the right direction, they are still very much capable of coming up with another masterpiece. It just that these days, those are harder to come by because the music industry is so saturated, and now more than ever, it takes much more than the usual experimentation to stand out and be recognized. Janet makes me hopeful for this possibility. If she can come back strong with Unbreakable after back-to-back misses of 20 Y.O. and Discipline, (yes, Damita Jo was a great album) then Mariah can do it too. She just needs to focus and have a clear vision of what she wants, as well as work with newer, lesser known producers.

The Four - Chyenne Elliott (80,533) by RibbonB from USA
I finally checked out the new reality talent show and its just OK. The most interesting thing was Dionne Warwick's grand daughter was a contestant. She really reminds me of a young Mariah both in voice and looks. The resemblance is uncanny, even to the big curly brown hair. Chyenne Elliott is already off of the show, but it will be interesting to see how her career develops. She doesn't look exactly like Mimi of course, but enough do that she could be perfect to play young Mimi if a movie is made within the next several years.

Hello everyone (80,528) by Haiji Toro from USA
It's been a long while since I last posted but always great to see how my MC lamily are doing. I'd love to comment and drop some opinions off as I'm here. First off, I'm so happy that our girl/lady is back on track. She's looking amazing and her shine is so genuinely illuminated. Her added latest achievements are so well deserved. My suggestion for an album title would be that it strongly represents each song on the album but not the same name as any song, we'll maybe an interlude. I'd love for a concept album. So I'll try to make this a bit quick but detailed enough to also see that "vision". Ok, the album will reintroduce MC for those that may not know her story. The album would start with an intro with a baby laughing and a music box playing in the background with a few of her whistles from afar. The beginning tracks will tell her story through her lyrics and interpolations of certain genres she grew up listening to. An updated celtic sound, representing her Irish roots. Wind blowing from afar, her mother's operatic vocals, a quick flash of a sampled "The Wind Called Mariah", little girl running through a field towards church for saving, very dramatic with orchestra. Following then, a track with gospel feel and soulful lyrics and sound about childhood drama. Each song after will represent a changing moment in her life. Lyrics will speak about that moment introducing a new sound using elements of the music she listened to at that moment, ie: a fun rock track about her job hopping to pay for her dreams with elements of the movie soundtrack Grease, and so on. Song titles with words that represent her vocabulary and meaningful terms, like "Echo", "Mirage", "Darling". Which the album title would be perfectly named, "Carey the Moments". I actually came up with this idea 2 years ago and wrote it out with more details and ended up with about 22 tracks lol. Still haven't finished it. Hope you all liked my ideas and maybe even saw a similar vision. Prayers, blessings and love to all.

Now Lila, to be fair, Mimi wore that same Marilyn t-shirt earlier for her dinner outing. And good for her with her expensive purse. I do hope she is making some good music that we will be able to listen to in the near future. She should do something very different and just drop a new track just for the fans, just because. No hype, just her lambs.

What a difference a few weeks makes (80,525) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
After all the positive press from NYE now it's back to the negativity. I get we may not agree with all of Mariah's choices but do you think being negative is going help anything? I highly doubt it. To be honest a lot of Madonna fans were angry at her Instagram post because of her collaborators they feel she is above them, and Madonna made it clear she will work with whoever she chooses to. To be honest I really feel like this new team is going to make sure that MC is going to release the best product possible. I think we should be happy she is starting from scratch because I doubt anything that she started recording under Stella's watch was worth a damn. I feel like she is in a new head space and trying to get that magic feel again. Something tells me team Roc Nation, Sylvia Rhone and Epic along with MC are putting all the right plays in order so that we can get the quality we expect from MC. I say be easy everyone and just see how this all plays out I'm nervous just like everyone else is but I am going to wait and see how things play out before I start jumping on the negativity train.

"She probably spent 5 hours getting ready to look amazing in that studio pic and she looks drunk." This. It makes no sense. The way she's dressed, diamond chandelier earrings, didn't bother to take the leather jacket off, the unnecessary scarf over top, hair done perfectly, then that unnecessary wine glass, and the strategically placed crocodile Hermès Birkin bag in the corner. Did you come to sing or did you come to hang? If you're going into the studio, where you plan to spend a couple hours, putting in work, why would one need any of that? It's not like anyone's filming. For all the ones excited hopefully she is seriously working on something new and I would love for her to be working on something good but this is just another case of oddities for me.

Re: New album title (80,516) (80,522) by Ronnie from California
Though it would be a bit incohesive, an idea I would be interested in being carried out would be an album titled "Legacy" and each of the 12 songs represented each of the major 12 albums she has created that already established her as a legend. Maybe a 13th track just for fun. I think it would be the right direction. Though it may come off as a little arrogant, it's what Mariah needs - a little arrogance. I know people believe she is arrogant, which is untrue, but any other legend, Whitney, Prince, Michael, Janet, Madonna would have put their foot down and said "I am a legend" a long time ago. A "Legacy" album would make a statement, "I do not need to create more music because I have done more than enough to establish myself. Anything from this point onwards is for the sake of my own sanity." Plus, when people like certain tracks, they would possibly go and maybe listen to the original correlating album. Deluxe versions may have 3 bonus tracks, 1 for Merry Christmas (a retro approach to Christmas), 1 for MC2Y (a classic Hollywood R&B mix), and 1 for the incredible remixes she has done.

Re: Studio pic (80,518) (80,521) by jaker20 from US
Madonna's albums after she turned 50 are also about love and relationships. She just express it in creative ways. Cher's Believe is also about love, it just so happen to be a dance track. Some artists write about loss, even death in a dance track. And Mariah has written about love and relationships in many creative ways in the past, just see Emancipation and that's after Butterfly. If that's not as honest as Butterfly then I don't want her to be honest because that album is great. But that's not the problem. The problem is she's not putting that much effort anymore. She's not that serious. She probably spent 5 hours getting ready to look amazing in that studio pic and she looks drunk. Madonna looks like she worked in the studio, looking casual wearing jeans like she actually did something. Oh well. Maybe Mariah has a better place in writing for soundtracks, not studio albums. Her most successful work the past 10 years has been for soundtracks. They may not be massive hits but they're inspired and she's not embarrassing herself.

Re: Studio pic (80,518) (80,520) by Edward from USA
"Part of the big problem is she has nothing else to say", I totally agree with that assessment. Not only Mariah, but most artists, like Alanis, when they were young and angry for whatever reason, they had things to get our of their chests, they would be really creative and things flowed effortlessly. Mariah has tackled relationships, breakups and heartaches from every angle. She's been black, she's been white, she's been mixed, she's been multiracial, she's been sabotaged, she's been coerced to conform, she's been in love, she's been out of love, she's been abandoned, she's been pregnant, she's had Christmas on January, July and December, she's had breast implants, she's had them in the closet, she's let them out, she's been a cougar, she's been a mother, she's been betrayed, she's been counted out, she's been counted back in, she's been cuckoo-for-cocoa-puffs, she's been sane again, etc. I guess it's accurate to say that she just doesn't have much to say anymore. Her creative juice seemed to have been greatly dependent on her desire to express herself. At this point, everything would be repetitive unless she actually shocks us all with a complete new sound, something I doubt. Judging by "I Don't", "She Won't". She'll be riding on her tired R&B formula. Nothing wrong with R&B or Hip Hop, it's just that I think it's time for Mariah to experiment with new sounds and collaborations.

Re: Studio pic (80,517) (80,518) by T from USA
Part of the big problem is she has nothing else to say. She's not as socially conscious or outspoken as Madonna. Mariah's songs are mostly about love and her life and quite frankly nobody is going to care about a 48 year old's love life, especially because she's probably not going to be honest about it anyway (see "I Don't"). The reason the Butterfly album worked so well and is still regarded as the best is because she was really honest in every song. It cost her though and "I don't" think she has ever been as honest to that degree again. Now if she pulls an Adele and tells everybody honestly what it's like to be in or out of love as a 48 year old mother of two, then maybe people will listen and actually care. But what are the chances?

Re: Studio pic (80,513) (80,517) by jaker20 from US
That's literally what came to my mind. Madonna teased being in studio so she does the same. Its so pathetic. Madonna is actually still trying to be creative. I don't like her music. I think it's awful. But I respect her because she is actually trying and pushing and letting her brain go to different places. Mariah meanwhile releases I Don't song with a tacky video of her endlessly touching herself. Gross. No creativity.

New album title (80,516) by Randy from USA
I think MC should use the events of the past year as well as previous album titles to title the new project. How about: Mariah Tanaka, Teamotions, MTV Unbothered, Studio Box, Hurry Christmas, Slaydream, Slutterfly, Reignbeau, Quitter, Disgracelet, The Emancipation of Stella, E=MC Bared, Memoirs of an Imperfect Single, Hurry Christmas II Accrue, Me I Am Mariah. The Elusive Recording Artist.

I think MC's career works best with a shroud of mystery. Spot on Hilton. The new studio picture is a mess. Are we supposed to be excited seeing you with a drink in the studio. How about being more serious and stop going to the studio like you about to hit the club. It would have been better if she cleaned up her social media and left one post. The post announcing she working on a new album, saying she'll be back when the album is done. People need to miss her. Stay away from the paparazzi hotspots and social media.

I think she did it because Madonna Instagram'd a pic and it got people excited. I think if there is anyone MC views as competition it is Madonna. And I don't think she wanted Madonna to get all the hype. But what Mariah doesn't realize is that when Madonna makes a music announcement the whole world takes notice. There is no point following the same route. Mariah should stay quiet until she is ready to release it. I think MC's career works best with a shroud of mystery.

Studio (80,512) by Mara from United States
I have to agree that the famous studio pic doesn't excite me all that much. (Especially the wine MC, where is your tea and honey?) Of course, if this is it and she was in there recording a complete body of work and doing her signature layers now, I would be ecstatic. The problem is, I have a feeling she is starting over too and scratching whatever if any material she had before as she wants to be in the moment now and start new, so if that is where she is, we are in for another long process. I also wish she would save the studio pics, go under the radar and just, bang with a new single and be ready. It's hard not knowing where she is in her creative process, but let's hope this time she records an album all in the same voice. MIAM while a great album, had a choppy feel with her vocals in Beautiful, Cry, to Supernatural, OMT, BGK. You can tell she recorded it in between long stretches and MC's voice is too delicate to go months. So I kinda do feel that she has a better ethic now and basing off of how things are going and she looks amazing and I do think she is ready. MIAM she was going through a bad time. One thing I am grateful of though, she never had an album under Stella.
