MC Instagram post (106,742)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
Go and check out Mariah's latest Instagram post where she shows us all the different vocals sung in Heartbreaker. I always knew how involved MC was in the creation of every part of her songs. But to see something visual really hammers home how truly talented, a once in a generation talent, Mariah Carey. Wow. Just wow.

Tiny Desk is the new MTV Unplugged. Everyone has been on there and it is very popular. You guys think MC would do the Tiny Desk? It could be great promo and she would have to sing 100% live. No vocal tracks allowed.

Favorite Rainbow track (106,731)

So I've been really enjoying this new anniversary edition of Rainbow and the song that stood out the most for it's haunting, sincere lyrics and vulnerability is Petals. I absolutely love this song, though it's always been one of my favorites, lately I can really appreciate how beautiful and real it is. Mariah does her best writing when she dives deep into her personal heartaches and lets the pen flow. The Petals Pound Boys remixes are really good too, it's a shame they were excluded from the MC30 releases. Do you have a new favorite Rainbow track? I know it's hard to pick just one.

The insider account on X. Though of course it cannot be taken as concrete verified information. Most of the things they have said have been right so far. MC seems to be in a similar space she was during The Art of Letting Go and MIAM era. Revisiting her ideas and concept over and over. I hope she does not over think and lose the spark of spontaneity. She probably has 3 albums worth of material ready by now. So curious to hear her talk about this album and its process when it's finally done. Robert Anthony - What you seek is seeking you.

Possibly. I think she has a very skewed outlook on her catalogue. It's why she has beaten MC to death.

I wonder if the reason she never celebrated these anniversaries was due to the royalties that Ben Margulies would get. We know she signed a bad deal with him and he'd get a big chunk of money, decreasing by each album.

Very true, lol. But I gotta say I admire those who are unapologetically true to themselves than those who go with what's popular. That's how I life my life.
Anyway, Rainbow was never a huge favorite of mine. However, even if an album doesn't grab me as a whole, there are always those songs I love that make me grateful she put out that album.

Yeah I think unless she releases the first single in August, she will push it to early next year. Apparently the nameless producer she was in the studio with all week is not Anderson Paak, although she has recorded stuff with him as well. Insider hinted that it might have been Bruno Mars. I think you've been wanting her to work with him as well right? Apparently Rareties 2 is also to be released this year. If she's still working on MC16, she probably plans to release Rareties 2 later this year to keep us going till MC16. I am not sure if MC30 will be a very big thing. She already did MC25. I don't think she celebrates 25 and 30. 30s only of those whose 25 she missed. Let's see what MC has planned.

Bruno Mars is on the table too. I think MC has finally realized that she is going to have to step out of her comfort zone and collaborate with new producers. I am all for an album with songs with from Bruno Mars, Anderson Paak, Rai Khalil, and Solange. Her recording time period for this album is going to be her longest time yet from 2021-2025.

I was just thinking today that MC's album releases in the spring tend to do better for strong first week sales and promotion is executed 100% for maximum sales. I am hoping the new album is given like an April 2025 release date. She is probably has something planned for the 30th anniversary for Merry Christmas like an anniversary editon and Christmas shows. January-March 2025 would give her time to release the first single and promote it properly.

Wow, you lucky one. I had tickets ordered for the tour for a friend and me. But I was a young teen back then and my mother didn't allow to travel only with a friend to a city 2 hours away from my home at night. So I had to resell the tickets. In 2003 I was finally able and old enough lol to see Mariah for the first time (Charmbracelet tour) and the wait was worth it. One of the best nights. But back to Rainbow, I revisit the album too and I have so many good feelings and memories about the music and the time. As I said, I was a mostly carefree teen and I remember it like it was yesterday. I really was Mariah "obsessed" in 99. Lol. Most of my friends were fans of boybands but I was a Mariah fan since Daydream. Now the time has changed in so many ways, people and things, but the music and memories will stay. I feel a little old too now.

I loved the Rainbow tour. Lots of people say this album was rushed just to finish with Sony. I disagree, there was so much put into this album, tours, resung vocals for remixes, catchy songs, great music videos, live performances etc.

That's one of the weird things I left Spotify for YouTube Music, missing songs entirely or different versions you're not conversant with and don't get me started on the songs that were previously available and then suddenly not. Leaving gaps in one's playlist. Smh.

The question becomes what do they mean by "original mixing problems"? Does that mean the mixes we've known for 25 years are not what she initially wanted? Are these new mixes what 2024 MC prefers?
I just realized that on Spotify the OG album has been updated with these new mixes and that's annoying. I was listening to the climax note of the Vulnerability interlude and the ending of that sustained note is missing something that was in the OG.

Article: Mariah Carey reflects on 25 years of Rainbow (106,722)
by Lainsky from Philippines

I've been listening to Mariah's theme "Can't Take That Away From Me" now that we celebrate Rainbow's 25th anniversary, both original and remixes. I have developed a new appreciation for this song. When it was released in 2000 with "Cry Baby" as the B-side, I preferred CB over CTTAFM. Like Mariah, my taste in music has transitioned from pop to R&B/Hip-hop. But now, I like it more. And I could not help but think about this if the relationship between Mariah and the label had not gone awry, it could have been released and promoted well and possibly have gone to No.1. Well, if that relationship remained okay, I guess other singles have gone to top, such as How Much (if also released - the sound and Usher was so popular that year), Butterfly, Breakdown, and Sweetheart. Well, we can only wish now and imagine while enjoying this expanded edition of the album.

The So So Def version of How Much featuring Usher is so much better then the album version. What happened there? I know she mentioned in the Vogue interview the label didn't get it, but I get it way more than the original version. What the heck?

by Bobby A from United States

Maybe because of these pictures, a faithful and inquisitive Lamb can only assume Anderson Paak was the producer she was talking about in the Vogue article. She gives him away by saying "Y'all wouldn't believe the week I've had." You know all about Anderson Paak's and Bruno Mars' R&B throwback group Silk Sonic. I liked that she is stepping out of her comfort zone by leaning less on the hip hop genre and more on the R&B and dance genre. Could working with Anderson Paak and Rae Khalil help MC craft a brilliant album? 2024 is definitely giving the Lambs good vibes about her voice, MC16, creativity in the studio and her overall happiness than in 2023. This is Rae Khalil.
