Not surprised (106,277) by Robert-Anthony from United States
MC just needs to release a fire album to get recognized by the music industry. She doesn't write the brilliant songs like she used too. If she would find songwriting partners like Madicin (Kenny Lattimore) or Daryl Simmons (Never Forget You) and write some R&B slow jams and love songs, then she would get back on top of the charts. What is it going to take for MC to get back to those brilliant songs?

Didn't Whitney cuss out a fan for asking for an autograph? Didn't Aretha Franklin threw shade with the best of them? Both were bigger divas than Mariah. Nobody complained when they were inducted. But then again, they were Clive's girls.

Personally, I'm happy for Mary J Blige and her induction, she's very much deserving of this, as well and loved and respected by many. There's room for everyone and I know one day Mariah's day will come.

They will induct her eventually. I have a feeling that they are just using her for social media engagements for now, lol.

People who say they didn't give it to her because they do not respect her are being over-dramatic and irrational again, but what else is new.

They nominated her which means they respect her, she just didn't make the final cut, which means I'm pretty sure they will eventually. When, who really cares?

It's really not that big a deal. I don't think that at this stage she should run her career to please them and forever trying to measure up. She's already got all of them. She's got the songwriter HOF which I'm sure is more important for her. That's what really separates herself from many of the greats.

A Daydream release in 2024 (106,273) by jaker20 from US
This is not a shade at all, but I'm just being real. I never really got the whole Taylor Swift thing, I can barely listen to a few songs. I can't really point to a specific reason why. We have hit a point where music is disposable, almost to the point of just reading their diary. Releasing an album with 31 songs and many artists are doing this because that's how the charts work. Nicky Minaj and Drake have been doing this as well. Again, not a shade, just being real. We love everybody.

Possibly. But there is not another up and coming female pop artist who can take her place right now. I think she has at least 10 more years of a popularity high. Don't let her star in a major movie with a hit soundtrack. That would add five more years. Lol.

Why should I respect an artist who has ride on other artists' coattails to succeed? You can take away Diddy, Dr.Dre, and the other collaborators, and see what happens. Then again, it could be jealousy on the part of the voters. Everything that she does gets crazy coverage in the press. Therefore, they resent her for it. I would resent it too, if my ceremony got worse ratings than a MC Christmas special.

I agree, that post from Instagram I put on shows the Mariah she should be, professional, executed and a performer. The diva persona is where she went wrong in my eyes.

Mary J Blige has 9 Grammys and 2 Oscar nominations. People don't snicker when you say her name. And listen Lee, I think you think I'm arguing for MJB. I'm not. There's not a damn thing Mary can do better than MC. Sing, write, dress, give face. MC wins. What I was saying is that the industry respects her more and that's why she was selected over MC. And again a lot of this is MCs fault. She has Tyra and Heidi Klum on stage doing her makeup. She's more interested in her dullard damsel diva than being an artist. She's laying in bed for a portion of her concert. The optics aren't there for an iconic artist.

It's her and her team's PR strategies that are impeccable. She went from being a social pariah to the biggest musical star in current times. She's talented yes but that isn't what led to her immense fame. Her team and Taylor herself are very business savvy and they created this sense of FOMO around her where people are scared to miss out on the Taylor Swift phenomenon. She feeds pieces of her lives to her fans and created this sense of "oh she's so relatable" bond which makes her look accessible yet a mystery all at once. Also her promotions are very engaging and strategic. She has become this entity where she can do no wrong. Although Mariah and Taylor are at very different stages in their careers, promotional aspect of Mariah's career especially in the last decade has seriously been lacking.

Whitney Houston didn't do a lot of rock duets either. Plus, Mariah has a lot of celebrities that beg her for autographs and selfies.

Mary J. Blige has had a lot of high profile pop duets during her 30 years in the music business. Mary's duets with U2, George Michael, Sting, Elton John, Santana, Ray Charles, Maroon 5, Rod Stewart, Andre Bocelli, and Quincy Jones have broaden her appeal to the music industry executives as a whole. I think the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame committee looks at that too. That is what MC's career has lacked.

Yey, I don't get the hype too. Perhaps it's because there is almost no competition. Rihanna and Beyoncé are more entertainers too than singers with a wow effect. When I think of the 90ies, Whitney, Mariah, Céline. They were really the vocal trinity. I'm so thankful that I witnessed the golden years. The same with the male singers. Can you imagine an earth song today like Michael did back then in 95 or 96? The popular music scene has become so boring except some rare newcomers.

If people take Mary so seriously, then why is she still struggling financially? Mariah met 3 presidents, how many did Mary meet? How many artists did Mary influence? Mary could go on a world tour, and be laughed out of other countries. Besides, it's ironic to talk respectability. [censored]

People remember Mariah songs too. Maybe not Heartbreaker, but Vision of Love, Emotions, Dreamlover, Hero, Without You, Fantasy and Always be my Baby are deep on the minds of almost everyone if they think of Mariah. I mean the grown-ups not the kids or teens. Nothing against Mary J. Blidge [sic], but that she will be on that Hall and Mariah not is a joke. A bad one. I don't get it. It's cool that you're back.

I often wonder how a Daydream album would sell in 2024 if it was released in 2024. Would it sell a million copies plus during in its first week and break Spotify records? Would Fantasy, One Sweet Day and ABMB break streaming and iTunes records? I picked Daydream because that is when MC's career went into overdrive and her popularity increased. Tortured Poets Department seems to be Taylor Swift's Daydream. Her popularity is so high right now. She could release a David Guetta and Zedd TPD remix album in the Fall and it would sell 1.2 million plus copies too.

I just think Mary is more respected in the industry and that culturally Mary represents something for soul music. People take her seriously. Mariah is great for a throwback, a whistler, a relic to be thawed out each November. I think these perceptions is where Mariah's image hurts her. I remember one of my Whitney fans responses to my dig that Mariah had more number ones. He said "People remember Whitney songs." I wonder how many non-fans know the difference between Fantasy, Heartbreaker and Honey. Anyway, I'm back. Did ya'll miss me? P.S. I was more shocked that Sinead, Sade didn't get in. P.P.S. How messy would it be if Madonna inducted Cher lol.

Lol. I probably should have saved my regular closing emoji for that post. I am just wondering if there is a group of music industry heads who have it out to deny MC of these huge music accomplishments like Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Hot 100 airplay and the Grammys. I won't mention his name though. You know the one who went back to the party looking for MC.
