Thank you, Eric. Wow. That was the R&B group Next's only number one pop hit.

Re: If Butterfly single was released (101,240) (101,254) by enwar00 from usa
In 1997 the Hot 100 was based off of airplay and sales. Butterfly reached #16 on the airplay chart. To compare, My All and Thank God I Found You both reached #15 in airplay, so very very similar, and both made it to #1 on the Hot 100 because of their strong sales. Because of that I think Butterfly had a good chance of reaching #1 if released commercially. Even if just for one week, like how Carrie Underwood interrupted We Belong Together at #1 (I'm still annoyed by that ).

My All (101,253) by Robert-Anthony from United States
I listened to Butterfly last night. Mariah's tone on the Butterfly album is mesmerizing and captivating. My All came on and for the life of me I can't remember what song caused My All to only spend one week at number one. Does anyone know what song knocked My All out of the number one spot? If I am not mistaken, My All had a slow ride in the top ten before it rose to number one. By the way, this has been the best week ever on the board in a long time reminiscing about the Butterfly album. Here's to the new era that officially began on 09/16/2022. Got to capture the pre-era moments too.

She said during [...] with [Oprah] back in 2008 that she knew how to lose weight quickly, quote "it's not that deep" or whatever.

Not exactly news, she talked about it in her book and I think some of the songs are on YouTube? I'm probably wrong on the last one. It's called Someone's Ugly Daughter.

Mariah Mariah Mariah (101,250) by Knoellexo from United States
Hey guys, long time lurker and I finally thought I would start sharing my opinions. First thing as a viewer of this board I'm kind of surprised how negative it sometimes is, just a thought

Second Mariah definitely has a lot of things coming and I think really soon. I think this year for Christmas it may be more laid-back and I think she's going to focus more on other projects.

Last but not least, Mariah's weight. How was she able to get thin so quickly? It was just at the BET Awards where I thought she looked quite curvy but now it's like she lost at least 60 pounds. It's crazy how fast she can gain and lose weight in a matter of months. Did anyone have any idea of how she does it> Her losing the weight all sell to me is the biggest sign that she has a project on the way. On Mariah skinny Mariah is working. Honestly I'd love to know the secret myself lol.

Breakdown rediscovered (101,249) by Terna from Nigeria
I liked this song, played it sometimes but never really got its vibe, maybe I was too young to understand grown folk issues and breakups. However, I have been playing the song non stop as I rediscovered it with fresh "grown ears" so to speak, haha and play it quite often now. It never was a song I gravitated towards until quite recently (2021). The [emotion] she sings with is so real, that desperation and frustration one feels, conveyed perfectly through the [ad-libs] towards the end of the song. Wow Mariah, thank you for this song.

Re: If Butterfly single was released (101,240) (101,248) by Terna from Nigeria
"Butterfly", to me, does not come across as [single material], it is a very quality song, a cut above most of her [ballads] and if I'm being honest almost too good to be a single release, but I am glad she gave it a video treatment though. That song is really special and too personal for radio, the type deep album cut of a gem you discover on your own that would make the album worth the purchase, and let us also be real "Candle in the Wind" was not gonna be unseated from that space. The whole world mourned Lady Diana for months and honestly, the rest of that ugly year 1997.

Rock album (101,247) by Tameka walker from United states
I was just on reading something that said that she recorded a rock album in 1995 but her record label didn't want to release it. They thought it would ruin her image. She did it because she was in the relationship with Tommy and she was angry and needed a release. She was angry and needed to release that so she secretly recorded a rock album. I think it would be interesting to hear.

Re: If Butterfly single was released (101,243) (101,245) by Robert-Anthony from United States
I was thinking last night that Breakdown should been the follow up single to Honey and then My All. Breakdown was such a great cross between R&B and hip hop. I heard Breakdown and Butterfly both on radio station K-97 in Memphis, TN for at least 3 months. The funny thing is that they wouldn't play The Roof during that time period.

Re: If Butterfly single was released (101,240) (101,244) by BFF from United States
I think it could have had a chance at #1 if they timed the commercial release correctly. It was getting quite a bit of airplay for a song without an official release. The Elton John single was #1 mostly based on single sales. "Butterfly" may have only gone to #2, but I still think it should have been released. It is one of her best ballads, and "Fly Away (Butterfly Reprise)" is excellent and adds a whole different dimension to the song.

Re: If Butterfly single was released (101,241) (101,243) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Excatly, it was released in Europe. I remember it was played a lot on MTV but didn't chart high compared to "Honey". So I also think "Butterfly" wouldn't have been a "hit" in the US at that time. "Honey" and "My all" were the number ones, rightly so. I would have loved to see "The roof" at number one back then, maybe on the US charts.

But all the live performances with "Butterfly" and the video playing on MTV, the many interviews with MC, it was wonderful. So many good memories. The music generally had another quality.

Re: New projects (101,237) (101,242) by Robert-Anthony from United States
It looks like 2023 is going to have four album releases.
1. An album for a documentary or series
2. A theme album
3. Somebody's Else Daughter album
4. MC16
I just wonder if the theme album will be similar to Jasmine Sullivan's Heaux Tales or Janet Jackson's The Velvet Rope. It would be cool if the theme album was the soundtrack to a major movie in 2023. Somebody's Else Daughter will probably be released during the summer followed by MC16 in the fall. I am excited for 2023. Maybe that's the reason for the move back to New York.

Re: If Butterfly single was released (101,240) (101,241) by Bill from the UK
Mariah said the record company didn't want her "streak" of number ones to end (though it technically ended with Can't Let Go), but presumably they meant from Fantasy onwards. There was no way anything was gonna budge Candle In the Wind from the top, which is probably why it never got released in the US. It was released commercially virtually everywhere else, and didn't chart that well considering her popularity at the time, so perhaps that was why it never got a commercial single in the US.

If Butterfly single was released (101,240) by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
Everyone knows that the song was not commercially released as single and that's the reason why the song didn't eligible to chart on Billboard Hot 100 (the rule at that time). So my question is, if the song was released, will it reach number one. At that particular time the song by Elton John for the late Princess Diana was very strong on the radio and charts and it reached number one for 14 weeks from October 1997 until January 1998. That was the window period for Butterfly to be released as single. So maybe, just maybe, Butterfly woud only end up at number 2, or who knows, maybe Butterfly would be the song that block Elton John's song from reaching number one. Or both songs could have their fair share at number one.

Re: The 8 "new" tracks (101,219) (101,238) by RJJ12 from USA
I only cared for The Roof feat Brandy and 4th of July Acapella. I never recalled cared for 4th of July, but I heard the isolated vocals and loved all the hidden layers and vocals. It’s better without the music. The other tracks are filler. Wished she would have put more into this anniversary and tacked on Head Over Heels and Last Chance with her vocals. That would have made the purchase worth it. Not purchasing but have streamed. For the nostalgia - lol.

New projects (101,237) by RJJ12 from USA
Interesting interview. So she still has multiple projects in the works. The Butterfly Lounge is still coming but not finished. A soundtrack that will go with her visual adaptation to her book. Here I thought she abandoned everything. Looks like she is still not done.

Say what you want about Mariah being one way or another, but when I hear her radio interviews I get the same feeling I've always felt since I fell in love with her in the early 90s. So knowledgeable, a true musician. Really worth listening.
