Songwriters speech (100,475) by Randy from USA
It was awful. Incoherent. Ditzy. But you all say I'm negative. What did you all think?

Re: Article: Mariah Carey to get in Songwriters Hall of Fame (100,473) (100,474) by jaker20 from US
My wish for Mariah's next coming years and decades is to be like Paul McCartney, and that is to keep on writing, keep on sharing her gifts, keep writing even for other artists.

Article: Mariah Carey to get in Songwriters Hall of Fame (100,473) by jaker20 from US
This is probably one of Mariah's most important moments more than her other supposedly "major" awards. An event that that will happen quietly but have bigger meaning to her, because this is what separates her craft from all the rest. She's not just a voice, she's an artist.

Michael Buble (100,471) by Todd from Sydney, Australia
Heard an interview with the Boobs today on the radio here in Australia.

He was asked a question about tours and setlists, to which he responded: "Lets be real, I'm a legacy artist. People want to come and hear songs they know. If I start talking about new songs that I'm writing, nobody is going to give a s**t. All you have to do is look at others in this industry that try that. People stop coming to see you."

Maybe this is why we aren't getting anything new from Mariah - she's come to the same realisation as Michael Buble, and the rest of the world? It ain't a bad thing!

Re: Beyoncé album? (100,465) (100,469) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
How is this Beyonce album a "surprise album", it's coming out in a month. That just sounds like good marketing and timing in the age of sound bites and short attention spans. Mariah released #Beautiful and then a year and a couple weeks later finally dropped the album; that isn't good timing evening in 2013/2014. Beyonce has always been loved by the media, but Beyonce also knows how to play roles and act in each era (Mariah has never released an album as Bianca, where as Beyonce played the role of Sasha Fierce for years).

Re: Collaborations (100,463) (100,468) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
This is such an odd discussion; why is Caution not a "Mariah album" according to some, because she's not belting or throwing her voice off every wall? I think it's a stunning Mariah album; songs like Giving Me Life is exactly how I like to hear Mariah use her voice. It's like saying Joanne isn't a Lady Gaga album because it's not Electric dance pop. I don't think Mariah was chasing any trends for charting with Caution, I think she was genuinely recording a sound she enjoys, with fun and vibrant album artwork. The music videos are also beautiful, classy and fun. It felt very Mariah in 2018, and could even be in 2022, the album still feels current.

Re: Songwriters Hall of Fame website (100,464) (100,467) by Jamie from UK
Hate to break it to you but Mariah was actually born in 1969. It's only since she was launched that they said she was born in 1970. Probably to make her sound younger. But her official documents say 1969.

Re: Beyoncé album? (100,465) (100,466) by Robert-Anthony from United States
Beyonce has been on a different level with the media and the Beehive since she dropped her albums Beyonce and Lemonade. After she released her lackluster album 4, Beyonce took her career to a different level. All of this new hype started a week ago when she removed all of her profile pics from her social media. She does little things like this to get the world wondering what she is plotting next in her career. We only wish MC would step up her game to get the world talking about her next moves. Chat time with the Lambily on Twitter Spaces every three months is not going to do it. She gives us the same spill everytime that she is "working on multiple projects". How long have we been hearing this spill? It has been since March of 2021.

Beyoncé album? (100,465) by Nicole from US
So now everybody talking about B and her "surprise" album. How can the media talk about her like that and none won't even give Mimi that same level of anticipation and respect? Or am I wrong to even observe that and it's just me?

Songwriters Hall of Fame website (100,464) by Brad from USA
This honor means a lot to Mariah. I was looking at the website for the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the profile they have for Mariah. It is filled with errors. They indicate she was born in 1969. Nope. They indicate her first song was titled "Visions of Love". Nope. I could go on and on. Its pretty disrespectful in some ways but nonetheless I hope she has a wonderful ceremony and feels truly honored for her work to date.

Re: Collaborations (100,461) (100,463) by jaker20 from US
I don't want to sound combative but the level of disrespect of some lambs is mind boggling, hence my posts for reality check. If you don't like Caution that is fine. But don't turn around and say she should just make what she's good at instead of chasing the charts. You are the one chasing the charts by asking her to make similar albums from the past which is success-based. What she's accomplished in the past and what she is now can co-exist, and if you are unable to accept that, then my point remains: you are living in fantasy land and you are free to do so as I am to call you out for your hypocrisy.

Re: Collaborations (100,456) (100,462) by Mò from South Africa
Bill, I pray Mariah never has to address "issues" relating to her voice. As a perfectionist that she is, she continues to record music, and put an effort to work with whatever state her voice is in.

We all have free will, and can move on to artists we believe have voices meeting our ear preferences, instead of wanting to strip Mariah of her dignity by explaining to the world the state of her voice.

Re: Collaborations (100,451) (100,461) by T from USA
With all due respect it's not the lambs living in fantasy land, it's Mariah herself. She's the one covering [Always be my baby] and [Close my eyes] in 2020. She's the one who constantly claimed the pandemic restored her old voice. She's the one living in the past, or as you put it in fantasy land. She's always trying to remind us of what was and lead us to believe that more is on the way. Those six years that everyone alludes to, the peak years, had three elements: the voice, Walter A, and Tommy Mottola. None of which are present anymore. But let's not get it twisted. Those six years were probably the best six years any artist in the history of recorded music has ever had. If Mariah wants to go current and make music for the teens she has one more chance, after that I foresee jazz and gospel albums in her future.

Article: Mariah Carey looks unrecognizable in new video (100,460) by Betty from Canada
I admit that I was not sure myself but I thought that it was just the filter, the angle or the makeup.

What if Hero was given to Gloria Estefan (100,459) by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
I'm just bored, so while listening to Music Box, I was thinking what if Hero was given to Gloria Estefan, what song would Sony or Tommy/Mariah would release as second single after Dreamlover? I would pick All I've Ever Wanted or Never Forget You. Imagine Mariah singing live for All I've Ever Wanted especially the bridge and the final chorus. Just wow. Maybe Everything Fades Away or Do You Think Of Me would be chosen to be included in the regular album version (because they lack one song after Hero was given out).

New face (100,458) by Brad from USA
Hopefully it's just angle, make-up and lighting. We don't need Mariah Carey to look like Tyra Banks; just to look like herself, with whatever that comes with in 2022.

No I don't want her to retire. I think you misunderstood what I wrote/meant. I miss real musicians, a real band not just only beats. It has nothing to do with fantasy, it's a matter of taste nothing more. I like "Caution" too but it's not my favourite. If you love "Caution" that's cool. I'm still happy with "The Rarities" and maybe one can hope for a Rarities Part two.

Re: Collaborations (100,451) (100,456) by Bill from the UK
I never said anything derogatory a out her post-90s output. In fact I agree, Caution is a great album. My issue is that she still happily pretends to be "The Voice", when she isn't. As you've said, her voice has changed. Nobody's voice in the industry has ever declined as rapidly as Mariah's has. Whether that was bad technique, bad choices, over singing, over working, or Michael Jackson's casket, we'll never know. Because she will never address it. Just shatter the illusion already and be honest.

Re: Collaborations (100,451) (100,455) by Robert-Anthony from United States
I believe with Pharrell, Dev Hynes and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis she can create again the magic of TEOM. Her voice wasn't in the best state then, but she had some great producers who gave MC hot tracks to sing over. It is probably good that she wait to release MC16 in 2023 when she can better position her music for radio airplay. Just my two cents today.

Re: Collaborations (100,438) (100,454) by TheWind from England
I don't believe I said I wanted 90s style runs or indeed music. I clearly stated that I think Mariah needs to keep it simple and stop chasing trends. If you think Caution is truly great, then good for you, but the general public and most fans alike don't agree, as proven by the sales. If most people can see what is glaringly obvious, but a small few cannot, then I'm afraid it isn't us who are out of touch. A 52 year old writing, producing and stylising music akin to that of a 20 year old is not a good look. What I want from Mariah is authenticity, and Caution is anything but that. I also believe Mariah was under Roc Nation at that time of promoting Caution, and I strongly suspect most of the album's promotional budget was spent buying positive reviews, something Roc Nation are known for. There is no way on earth that Caution can by any measurable standard be considered better than Butterfly, Daydream, TEOM, or indeed any other Mariah album, just because it was supposedly well received by critics. It's easily her worst album. There's a reason the late night version of WBT was so well received by fans. It was mature, sophisticated, and sexy, all at the same time. Something we haven't seen for a while. A few tracks of original material written in that vein would not go amiss.

Thank you MusicfanJ, I'm glad you understand my point of view and see where I'm coming from. I want to see Mariah succeed so bad, pull a Cher moment or even something bigger, in this social media time we live in (I was one of those who discovered Cher from "Believe" that record was so impactful for her, she gained new fans and recognition). If anything else for the new Lambs that have never experienced an era where she was inescapably on top. But instead she's being reduced to a one trick pony that happens only at Christmas (you've seen those memes of Mariah Carey defrosting after Thanksgiving lol). After such a stellar career, the "Queen of Christmas" title (which I love and not complaining about at all) should be just one of the different facets of the artist she is, an all round music genius in a league of her own.

Re: Collaborations (100,445) (100,451) by jaker20 from US
I seriously think some of you are living in fantasy land and there is no bringing you back to reality. The Voice is not on Caution, because The Voice has changed. It's not the same. What is not clicking? Your idea of the voice is the 90s, so obviously it won't be the same. It's not better or worse, it's different. Things change in 30 years. Some of us were infants when Butterfly was released. Mariah isn't immune to nature's changes, and she's making music now to complement those changes. And I, as well as many others, like those changes, because I don't live in fantasy land. I appreciate her efforts precisely because she is not just the voice, she is many things. PS She'll be awarded a hall of fame tomorrow and I guarantee she'd be the happiest in her career tomorrow because in case you missed the memo, she happens to be an incredibly gifted songwriter as well not just the voice that you put her in the-voice-box.

If its up to you she can recreate the magic of the 90s in imaginary-land studios because that aint happening. It. Will. Never. Happen. So I guess if its up to you, she should retire? If its up to me, she can make more of Caution, and I will be very very happy, because it is a vessel for new fans to discover her older albums and allow her to continue sharing her many creative gifts. Very few artists puts out an excellent album like Caution 30 years into their career with that kind of craft. Yet some of you just slept on it because she isn't screeching on every song like she did 30 years ago. How inane.
