Re: BET performance (100,620) (100,622) by Stacey from USA
First, I wasn't responding to you. Second, yes I did compare a speech to a performance. But you conveniently left out the fact I also included the Billboard Icon Award she received a year earlier, which if I'm not mistaken MC gave a speech as well.

Who cares if I criticize Mariah? Who cares if I praise her? Who cares what I say? Sheesh, lol. It's just an opinion.

Carey on.

Re: GOAT (100,618) (100,621) by Lady B from USA
You do realize who came up with the term goat in this context, right? Hint: she's an amazing singer/songwriter. So when you criticize the term, you're criticizing her, which is very on brand for how negative folks are here a lot of the time.

You are entitled to your opinion, and I am allowed to criticize that opinion. Comparing a performance to a speech is willfully obtuse, in my opinion. Obviously you disagree, which is fine.

No. I have a right to express my opinion just like you do. Carey on.

Re: GOAT (100,616) (100,618) by Stacey from USA
I started online chat with the old MC pink boards during the Charmbracelet era. That's when I started collecting Mariah's CDs and discovered this website. I'm hitting 45 in the Fall. I'm definitely a GOAT.

Look, there are all kinds of fans here, all with different backgrounds, etc. The thing to remember is we all love Mariah's music. Just chill out if someone writes an opinion you disagree with. Your life will be much happier, I promise.

This year on the board has been really interesting. I am glad that I am a Lamb.

Sir GOAT Eric, you know that's right. Many of this board have come and gone, but the GOAT always remain.

You can be a little bitchy. Were you born that way or did you pick it up later in life?

Re: GOAT (100,611) (100,614) by Randy from USA
Yeah I'm definitely a GOAT. I thought she did a really good job at BET even though I still can't tell if she was singing live or not. I watched it 5 times but whatever, I'll take any win at this point. I still don't like the abrasive texture of her full voice now, but she's definitely using her voice in its current state more than the studio tricks she did for years. It was wonderful that Latto gave her her flowers. And not one of my friends who love other divas had anything negative to say. Except why does a man have to help her move 5 steps.

Indeed. Us OG/GOAT fans know where it's at. I remembered this incredible speech Mariah gave at the BBMA Icon Awards. If she had done something like this for SHOF it would have been a beautiful and timeless moment. But, it is what it is.

I hope you all know that GOAT means "Greatest Of All Time". So when you call the older fans goats, then you're right. We are Mariah's greatest fans. We are here from the beginning and we are not going away.

Re: BET performance (100,601) (100,610) by Lady B from USA
"I hope people can see the difference between last night/Billboard speech and the SHOF speech." Yes, for starters she was singing in one and giving an acceptance speech for something she worked hard toward for 30+ years in another. I agree it's different, such a good point!

Both were amazing. I'm so proud of her. I love that she is enjoying herself after a long career of success and, frankly, no one of her peers are having this much success at 50+. It's a testament to her longevity and greatness that goats here often compare her to folks 10, 20 or 30 years her junior.

She's in on it (100,608) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I think the missing Lego piece for some Lambs (the group calling themselves the OG fans) is that the public loves the sunglass moments, and lighting jokes, the eye rolls and the tears every now and then etc. That's part of her signature. That's what made Mariah the Meme Queen of social media and has kept her relevant in the public discord even though she's only released three albums in the last 8 years. Non-Mariah fans that I know love that clip of her being wheeled to the stage in an office chair, and no one is laughing at her, they laugh with her. It's bloody hilarious. She knows how to play it out. She doesn't always hit her mark (ie: that radio interview she did years ago in NYC and tried her glasses bit and it didn't land), but people enjoy her and she enjoys them. Would you rather her take the Madonna route? Madonna looks like she was produced by the Mattel factory then stung with bees.

Re: BET performance (100,606) (100,607) by Stacey from USA
Yes I can. My kids love me and my trademark. I am a goat after all in their eyes. My husband would agree too. Haha. Nice try.

Look, there is a big difference between her BET moment, the Billboard speech, and the SHOF speech. I'm not saying she has to be a robot. We got enough of that during the Tommy years. But seriously to focus on lighting during a moment she's fought for decades to get recognition for baffles my mind. Moments like the BET performance remind everyone she truly is the goat. Leave the sunglasses at home.

Sincerely,
Lady Goat Stacey

Why should she get rid of her gimmicks? It's her trademark, and what I have seen, her trademark has done good in life. Can you say that about your trademark?

Non crediting for BER (100,603) by "MariahHater" from Hell
Hmm. Based on Latto's latest tweet, I can infer that Mariah purposely did not let herself be credited but pushed the original on better heights. What a humble diva.

I just thought about this MC has darn near worked with almost everybody who hosted, performed, or recognized at the BET Awards last night. Who else can say that? No one.

Re: BET performance (100,595) (100,601) by Stacey from USA
I hope people can see the difference between last night/Billboard speech and the SHOF speech. I agree it was short, but most importantly she looked and sounded great. Those whistles were on fire. Get rid of the gimmicks and own the moment.

The entrance was epic and so powerful, totally worthy of a legend and props to Latto for just letting Mariah shine. She just left the stage and let Mariah takeover. It was really respectful of her. Also it's so sweet to see Mariah come out to support another up and coming female artist because she really didn't need to come out, because it's been a while since she made a public appearance and when she decided to make one it was to support another artist instead of her own thing. I'm super glad she did it because as a lamb any moment Mariah gets her legend status recognition is a whole event.
