Caution and Eternal Sunshine (105,959)

I don't think that is the whole case. I mean, she sounded amazing during Christmas concerts just a few months ago, hitting all the notes. I think she is just doing things carefully and more comfortably. Which is very fine.

I believe MC is hurt that she doesn't have her range like she used to, record her songs like the way she is used to recording them. You know she is a perfectionist and loves to add different vocal techniques and runs to her songs. I bet it just hurts her that she can't do Lead The Way runs anymore.

If she wanted to bet her return on Ariana's single it should have been something they worked with on an original song that would be released with a proper single treatment. Releasing YAR a good while after fans had already rallied to take the song to #1 once and then after it free fell wasn't a smart move. To top it off they didn't even promote it after the first day. We can't just expect something to blow up when the effort wasn't put in by the artists to make it blow up. It also wasn't a groundbreaking song that people would lose their mind over it.

Big business cares about the numbers. In order for them to invest in a new Mariah album she has to prove that it's worth it. We are talking millions of dollars on the line. Plain and simple. Had Yes, And remix reached top 10 with a Mariah credit and kept having success for the next few months a label would be willing to take the chance that Mariah may produce more success. That's why I was hoping beyond hope that it would blow up.

This is what Mariah should do, relinquish a little control. She will obviously still be involved in the storytelling and the songwriting but she tends to want full control, probably because she felt controlled for the first few years of her career. Also personally speaking I don't need her 90s vocals, I accept Mariah's voice the way it is, and I'm sure she can work around it. She has proved her master vocalist ability, no shame in toning it down to match her current state. If she tries to control everything, she will continue to push her release and then whatever she has ready might be trashed because the music industry is a fast moving one especially on the current environment. Trends come and go. She might have had ideas that were fresh that she took too long to release and someone else already did it and it make yesterday's news.

It's like Ariana said to Max Martin, here is my story, will you help me tell it. He helped her create a cohesive brilliant album. I am going to listen to an album 2-3 times in player before I give my review. Eternal Sunshine is the type of album to listen to with your boo driving through the city on a Saturday evening. I just didn't get it the first time especially with Yes And? being the first single.

Sorry but get over yourself. Seriously, you are so cringy, just no one here wants to tell you straight up (no pun to Paula's more original song). Mariah's not going to be have a comeback as a major pop girl if Yes And Remix even hit no.1. No one even cared about Beyonce's latest, just a few weeks ago we want her to do the same. And now that song is dropping like a rock, and even Beyonce don't care about it enough to make a video. Charts these days are useless.

I believe it's a control issue. Mariah wants to be 100% involved in every aspect. Especially how her voice is engineered. With Caution and Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel she gave up a big portion of that to others and the results were a more cohesive album that to this day have the best review scores. Sometimes I think because of what happened with her debut album, the lack of control and her pushing the fact that she's a writer/producer so hard it hinders her in time it takes to release something. I'm not going to doubt her abilities as she has proven time and again that she is the secret sauce to all of her music, but, it is clear Ariana gave Max Martin the entire runway to do his job. And, yes did it wonderfully.

I remember Mariah expressed her dissatisfaction with being pushed to release "Caution" with a quick turnaround. Ariana said in her interviews that Eternal Sunshine took her 3 months to complete. She also kind of did it while shooting for a major movie. Eternal Sunshine is getting great reviews and is said to be cohesive and impactful. So which brings me to why does it take Mariah so long nowadays to release an album? She is no stranger to churning out great albums, and she finished Rainbow in a few months. But what is stopping her from fully investing herself in an album now? If she can come up with WBT, ILT, SIO all within a span of 2 days, what's hindering her now?

Mariah did do that on Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel. Obsessed was vastly different than the mood of the album. So much so that I believe the album suffered until streaming starting kicking in a few years ago. Back in 2009 lots of people who were fans of Mariah stayed away from the album initially because they weren't feeling the new teeny bopper vibe Mariah was giving from E=MC2 to Obsessed. Little did they know the actual album was full of classic MC R&B. I still think Obsessed would've fit in better on Einstein in 2008. And Memoirs could've used Skydiving (Timbaland) in its place.

I haven't heard the full album yet and I just saw her newest music video and it was so beautifully done. If there's one thing about Ariana, her music videos are on point. I love the movie references she puts in some of them. Example TUN had so many iconic scenes from 4 iconic movies. This one was a tribute to "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". I don't know who comes up with the contexts but I hope Mariah picks up on those for her next visuals inspirations. I'll be checking out the album, I hear it's a cohesive and compact one telling a story which I enjoy. I think the reason she won't term it as a "break up" album is because she has to keep it vague. Her and Dalton had signed NDAs as part of their divorce so none can outright bash the other. I'm surprised that her lead single was so different from the mood of the album, that's smart and risky at the same time. Because Ariana has such a huge streaming pull she can do it, if it was Mariah and her lead single was so controversial and different from her actual album people might not be as receptive.

Sadly, you are probably right. Which is why we as the fans should be lifting her up and encouraging her to get back in the ring and do her best, no matter what. She deserves a ton of respect and love and I'm here for all of it. We love you Mimi, you can do it all. I still prefer MC on a bad day over any other female vocalist. I can't express that enough. Oh wow. That's major if it's true. Mariah may have something up her sleeve after all. Maybe a re-release with a brand new extra disc (I'm being greedy lol) of new songs that never made the final cut - you know she did write and record that album the whole year through 2004. I remember Mariah was missing in action all year, then materialized with that silvery metallic blue dress at an event at the end of the year. Also her song with Jadakiss was about the only thing she featured in and had her sounding well rested and in form again.

After her beautiful and brilliant performances on SNL, I listented to Eternal Sunshine again. I have to say now that I totally get her new album. Why didn't she just say that it was a break-up album for those individuals who have lost? It is now Spotify's biggest most streamed album in a single day with 54.8 millions streams with 8 of the album's tracks in the Spotify Top 10. Also, I wonder what happened between Ariana and Dalton. The album is definitely about him.

I think you're on to something. She redid WBT. Maybe the Butterfly Lounge turned into a a redo of TEOM with duets. Maybe a re-release on the anniversary with a bonus disc of remakes from Mimi? Although, do CD's even sell anymore? I think Mariah should focus on SUD, if it's actually a thing. A new album would not do well in this climate for Mariah. Ariana's Grande album will not debut with big numbers, and she's the biggest streaming artist out there. The reason Mariah focuses on the Christmas album every year is because it actually makes money and there is interest in it.
