About Orkun from The Netherlands: Musician

Ahhh (52,990) by Orkun from The Netherlands
Now that I was able to see some footage on stage, it is clear that many parts are pre-recorded/altered. What was I thinking?

Wa.. wa...wa.. wait a second (52,964) by Orkun from The Netherlands
The TMZ audio seems live to me. Finally I'm not falling for the other "live" singing. No way. But this sounds live to the core. The whistle, she covered perfectly. Not just covered, but finally (for me at least) with emotion. Now crossing fingers for the singing parts. The whistles are cool, but not my thing anymore. Just like falsettos, it's too much for my ear. As most of you know, Mariah has been very hard for me to enjoy for a while. To me, "Beautiful" was her most recent peak and that song is a global classic and I am sure time will prove this. I got chills while listening to the TMZ medley today. And that hasn't happened to me for a while. It reminded me of the determination she had when she sang VOL in Jamaica. Not the whole song but the whistle she put out there. That part was live and from the heart. All the previous "in your face she sings live" moments are dubbed. So the TMZ video is the one to use, if one wants to express that type of attitude. (Even the "Happy Birthday" in the shower is dubbed btw.) I can't believe how amazing she sounds on this TMZ thing. Ps: Abraham, you know I am fully on your side and gained more respect for you. Mimi L, about her dresses this era. I need your opinion. I never ever had problems with her weight gain or loss. But her dresses? Not sure. You, I can trust. You know, I talk music. But fashion. Ohh that fashion. Mimi L, I will be your vocal coach and you dress me up. Do we have a deal? Lol.

Andrew (52,663) by Orkun from The Netherlands
Don't leave. I'd read your message half way through and gave you a thumbs up. Continued reading and saw you wrote "give me a thumbs up if you want me to leave". My bad. It's so true what you wrote about the music. I have the same issue with the music she puts out. Mariah is way better than this. Do not leave. I need to be reminded sometimes that Mariah fans have a good ear. You are one of them. At the end of the day, of course the choice is yours. Just know that I "get" the things you say agree with most. I think of you as an artist too actually.

Jared / Matini / Mariah (52,654) by Orkun from The Netherlands
In all honesty, I can understand why Matini has been hurt. Jared, no offence intended. You kindly apologised to Matini, and I was about to give you a thumbs up. But after, you justify yourself and continue to tell Matini "not to be so sensitive about it". On the contrary, you need to be more sensitive about Matini's feelings. Mariah has been dealing with racial issues for life, like most of us. Saying "get over it" is not going to cut it. On the other hand, about Infinity, I agree with Jared. Greets and love to everyone.

To Elena (52,318) by Orkun from The Netherlands
You took the words right of my mouth. Indeed, Beautiful should have been used for this era. That would have been her 19th.

Boring (52,315) by Orkun from The Netherlands
This is a very bad song. May even miss the Top 100. What were they thinking releasing it? I'm schocked. No offense to anyone, but who would listen to 18 number ones and play infinity after those classics? There is no melody. "Infinity" part is indeed falsetto. (Mimi L, remember my prediction?") I'm hurting now honestly. Such a wasted chance. Mariah come on, where's your creativity girl? I love you. Please get it together. I promise you all, if this becomes a hit I will happily eat my words on this board and allow you to chop my head off, celebrate with you because I want her to have success. And by the way, "instant classic"? More like a cult classic. I'm very sorry to say. I'll keep streaming the song to do my part. I truly hope I'm so wrong about this. Maybe I missed the clue and there actually is something good about the song they hear and I don't.

Mimi L. / Infinity (51,949) by Orkun from The Netherlands
About my thoughts on this era. So many fans with special interest fields. Some are very visually developed. They notice every detail of her dresses for example. I think you are one of them and she "needs" to make a connection with you, dress-wise. Of course I look at them too but I have no fashion skills. Haha. I really don't. I'm the kind of guy who trusts his ears a lot. I need to hear the song to have a better idea of this era. My worries: I think she would have made a better connection with the general public if her cover wasn't photoshopped. It would have made a better connection. Michael Jackson was advised to drop the Michael-isms such as the high "hee hee"s. He didn't. And he suffered from it. It was a bit too much. Mariah has the same issue I believe. There are some Mariah-isms in her vocals which she should use, but not overuse. Look at the word "Infinity". The letter "i". That's a Mariah-ism because it's an "easier to sing high" letter which she will use while she is using her head-voice. To sum up, when I hear the song, you'll be the first to know, along with the Archives familiy.

Off my chest, Uptown Funk / Mimi L. / Andrew / Abraham (51,915) by Orkun from The Netherlands
So I heard Uptown Funk for the first time today. Great song but I could hear the plagirism. It sounds a lot like a few other songs ( Michael Jackson's Jam being one of them). And I was disappointed. Yes, Mariah created countless WBT replicas over and over but at least, she was copying herself. Abraham's post on Infinity being Mariah's 19th number 1, and the 40 thumbs up he got is awesome. That's how badly we want her to have succes and how we all are on the same page on this topic. Lets make it happen. Mimi L, I love love love your posts. Stop reading my mind. Andrew, I'm openly supportive of your opinions and read them with full interest. Exiting times. Lets get that #1.

Kate / nostalgia (51,441) by Orkun from The Netherlands
Very nice topic. I have that feeling with Friends (tv show) and Mariah. I was a kid when she came out and every hour, VOL would be on the radio and I actually hated it. Then came " Love Takes Time". I was sold. To me, her first album is my all time favorite, ever.

Is it possible? (51,311) by Orkun from The Netherlands
We know Mariah's is re-recording #1's in duet forms. As we are recently coming across new generation artists prasing Mariah, is it possible that Mariah's new #1 album will feature artists like Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Iggy, Alicia, Taylor Swift, Idina Mendez etc? If so, that would be an amazing commercial project. Could this be what's awaiting us? Any thoughts? PS: Edward, I started my day with a big laughter after reading your last post "Weakness of the body". Lol.

Shelly / top 10 (50,994) by Orkun from The Netherlands
Shelly, you will be missed. I think Edward put it perfectly. Mimi L, you deserve the top spot. Great posts, great to read. You're about to tie The Beatles. Get 'm.

The introduction before the performance / Amber (50,940) by Orkun from The Netherlands
What I think of the performance is obvious I'm sure. I prefer skipping talking about that. What I wish is that her speech before her performance had more depth to it. It seemed too casual and too regular. A powerful speech would have had a big impact. Lost oppertunity. Amber makes a valid point, calling this The Charmbraclet era. I don't think Mariah is there yet and I'm crossing my fingers for Vegas.

Jermaine Dupri? (50,654) by Orkun from The Netherlands
Dupri?? The Beatles are more relevant. In that case, she might as well team up with Walter A. again. That could be magic.

TheVoice (50,377) by Orkun from The Netherlands
I agree with you about writing new music but my message was meant at a deeper level. "Butterfly" is what you are referring to. But You can't refer to "Glitter" or "MIAMTEC", which were her down periods too. First, an artist needs to breath, eat and drink. She is a human first. During this time, her creativity will build up subconsciously. That's step two. She has to be in balance, not only to write good music, but to manage it too. Otherwise, no chance, in my opinion.

I hope (50,366) by Orkun from The Netherlands
I hope that Mariah is not making new music right now. She needs balance first. She is angry and frustrated and hurt. She needs to go through a grief process first. After, she should take off her make up and look in the mirror. Be honest with herself and stop the disguise. Once she breathes again, she can make good music and adjust her attitude. Not before that. She has to come clean. The image has become her nightmare. Only being real is what will help her.

To Edward (50,328) by Orkun from The Netherlands
Edward, I just finished counting. In your messages, you said "booty" eleven times. If you say it 2 more times, you'll tie Rihanna. Just being silly.

Edward / Abraham (50,193) by Orkun from The Netherlands
Edward, I mistyped your name earlier. I was trying to thank you but it didn't come across. Abraham, you and I don't have a history. You have one. I do read your posts and give thumbs up when I like it. I will keep doing it. I could be harsh to you right now if I wanted to, believe me, but that would serve my ego, not my soul. Seriously. I don't even remember what we argued about. Your hate and grudge consumes your energy, not mine. Whatever your issue may be with me, I apologize if I stepped on your toes and forgive you at the same time. If you find a way to turn this message into a negative one, I still would forgive you. Peace rules, always.

Topic Andrew / Shelly / GG (50,147) by Orkun from The Netherlands
I just had to write. I've never been offended by any of his posts personally and I think they are valuable. His style is debatable for sure but so is mine, or any other's. I agree with GG that the "uber-positiveness" is far more annoying when it's blindly penned. I think by now we know that Shelly is a sweatheart and indeed is pure. To me, Andrew is equally pure and his anger towards MC is justified. It's Mariah for God's sake and when she is on fire, she really is on fire. If Mariah is reading the messageboard, Andrew's posts are the ones she needs to read too. It's not hating on MC. It's tough love. Which still is "love". He may be harsh at times, I'm not defending that. But I'm not criticizing it either. He keeps it fresh and dynamic. It's so clear that he is musical, he hears details most don't hear musically. That's my 2 cents and I hope we can all get along on here. My vote? I hope Andrew keeps posting.

Abraham / Diane Warren (50,003) by Orkun from The Netherlands
I like your idea of penning with another artist. Sia is cool. I personally would prefer Adele. If I'm correct, Mariah wrote "Can't That Away From Me" with Diane Warren and it was perfect indeed. [Webmaster: Mariah and Diane Warren wrote three songs together: "After tonight", "Can't take that away (Mariah's theme)", and "There for me".]

To be fair (50,001) by Orkun from The Netherlands
The Grammy's suck. Then again, so does the World Music Awards, for the last few years. They created a category just to give Mariah an award, for ratings.

Shelly (49,800) by Orkun from The Netherlands
I just wanted to say that i'm also one of the MCA followers who enjoy your posts big time. You may ask me "why", which would lead to "YMCA". So let's just not go there. Hugs.

Jamaican Observer needs a Q-Tip (49,610) by Orkun from The Netherlands
Well, I have an answer to the fan who asked if he and the "Observer columnist" actually have watched the same show. Hell no. According to his article, Mariah was at her best and gave her fans songs what they were craving. Like "Give It To Me" and "Don't Let Go". Hmmm. Wait. We know the songs on her albums. We know the B-sides. Is there a C-side we missed all these years? Hey Observer columnist: You should listen to songs like "You've Got Me Feeling", "And You Cast Your Fears Aside", "Oh When You Walk By Every Night". Awesome songs. I can't wait to hear your observations on those. Assuming your earpiece is working of course. Sigh.

Discussing lipsync / Marissa (49,542) by Orkun from The Netherlands
Marissa, your message says it all perfectly. From "she can't sing live" debates, people moved on to "she can't lipsync anymore". Ouch. Painful. Careless. Some vocal moments were cool. Some. During Fantasy, her lips were saying "with my girlfriend" instead of "with my boyfriend". Respectless performance. People pay for this. I would have been furious. Seems to me she has been cashing in for a while now. I'm so embarrassed.
