Re: What Mariah song brings you to tears? (58,873) (58,879)

Has to be Vision Of Love. Helped me go through my parent's divorce and the aftermath. Made me believe everything would be fine again. Still listen to it everytime I'm sad or get depressed. It's the only song that ever made me cry, and that probably won't change.

I really thought she would have achieved it before the release of Infinity, especially since she looked a lot smaller on her Christmas shows and on Ellen, but she's only been getting bigger. It's like she doesn't even care anymore. I hope she surprises all of us and gets her Idol body back.

Her legacy is intact, no matter what she does. She has already accomplished too much for it to be tarnished. As far as her being more "mature". I don't completely agree. I don't mind her wearing revealing clothes if she loses weight, or chasing hits if the music is still good.

Why You Mad (55,835)
by Jake from New Zealand
| |
|
|
Is a mess. French Montana's verse is trash. T.I.'s even worse. Justin's is ok. The only good things were the beat and the new Mariah vocals. The end was abrupt. I don't understand how the same person who gave us MIAM released this mess. I don't even understand the need to remix the original. Which is probably the worst song ever released by Mariah, after Don't Stop. Mariah needs to stop collaborating with rappers and start with singers.

Infinity remix (55,715)

No, no, no. Why won't Mariah just let this song go, and focus on making one that's actually good and enjoyable? It's like she's purposefully doing all the wrong things.

I miss her being skinny too. I often find myself reminiscing about the good old days of Idol/2013, when Mariah kept serving look after look. I definitely thought she'd be in shape before dropping Infinity, nevermind by now. What's taking her so long to get in shape? It actually seems like she keeps getting [censored]. Sigh.

Really excited for it. Justin is a really good singer, his new song Where Are Ü Now is great. And French is ok. Detail is a nice producer, so that's reassuring too.

No, I'm not joking, or trying to get any attention. Merely stating my opinion like every other user on this board. I think that Mariah's writing hasn't unfortunately gotten better with time. I mean Infinity? I liked Camouflage and Cry was ok (I guess) but they don't hold a candle to her previous work.

Song writing (55,540)
by Jake from New Zealand

To be honest, I agree. Mariah's writing just doesn't captivate me anymore, like it used to. Most of the ballads on MIAM weren't good, The Art Of Letting Go was really bad, lyrically, in my opinion.

One Mariah song (55,437)

Umm. This is really hard. I'm torn between Fantasy, Without You and Vision Of Love. But I'll say Without You, it has a very special meaning for me (being the song that made me fall in love with Mariah) and I'll never get tired of it.

Can't Let Go (54,697)
by Jake from New Zealand

What a coincidence. I also watched the SNL performance today. I really love this song. It's my favourite on Emotions (along with Make It Happen) and one of my all time favourite Mariah songs. I particularly love the beginning of the song, which reminds me of I Don't Wanna Cry. So sad that it didn't go to number one.

Next album (54,578)
by Jake from New Zealand

I think for her new album, she needs to stop using the old format (i.e. trying to recreate WBT) and do more up tempos. We need a lead single from her that people can sing along to, with fun lyrics (but not immature ones like in Infinity) a very radio friendly song. If she's going to keep producing boring songs like Infinity then she should stop making music. And I know a lot of you think MIAM has some of her best work, but I really wasn't impressed with it and it's my least favourite Mariah album. Most of the songs were boring (Cry, Money, You're Mine) or lacked something (Make It Look Good). The production was boring and the lyrics weren't her best. So she should try to collaborate with more producers/songwriters. And last but not least, she needs to lose the weight. That's unfortunately the first thing people criticises her for. She loves to wear outfits that show off her body, and there's nothing wrong with that, but she doesn't have the body for them. Go back to AI weight, Mariah.

Top 3 #1's (53,628)
by Jake from New Zealand

1. Fantasy. This is my favorite Mariah song too. I love everything about it. The opening instrumental, the whistle, the sho-do-do-do-do-do-do's, the lyrics and the whole vibe of the song. I think the video captured the essence of the song and how fun it really is. 2. Vision Of Love. Easily one of the best debut singles of all time. The lyrics showed Mariah's maturity as a songwriter and the vocals are out of this world. Like so many critics have already said, it really is the holy grail of melisma. Also, this song never ceases to lift me up when I'm sas. 3. Always Be My Baby. Everyone loves this song. Even non lambs who don't like Mariah love this song. The production is great and this is a quite possibly the catchiest song MC's ever realeased.

Wow. What he said kind of shocked me. Obviously he and Mariah aren't on the same page, since she's planning on going hard with him on the next record, and he wants her do some boring covers sh*t. Seriously, how old does he think she is? This really worried. On a side note, Mariah did great on Jimmy Kimmel. I wish her BBMA performance was like that. Oh well.

There are loads of good Mariah perfomances after 1997. I'm shocked how you keep saying they're underwhelming and embarrassing. And honey, don't even talk about Whitney, becuase after 1995, her voice was weak af.

Vegas / vocals / delusion (53,025)
by Jake from New Zealand

First off, I think she did fine. LTT, IDWC and TGIFY were the highlights. Dreamlover and Vision Of Love were messes. The rest was okay, except for Fantasy, which she yet again lipped. But this is only the first show. She still has a lot of time to improve (like she did on the last tour and on the Beacon Theatre shows). I hope she keeps practicing (especially on VOL, because it was cringe worthy to be honest). Furthermore, I think it's stupid to expect her to sound like she did in the 90's. Who sounds the same after more than 20 years? I understand people wanting her best, but some people are just straight up delusional. The only thing I hated was the costumes, which looked super cheap. I also hope she changes them in the future.
