About Bino from : A fan since 1999.

I know it's pointless to argue with those who seem to have an endless grudge against Mariah, but I'll try anyway. Maybe Mariah mourned the victims privately. Maybe she prayed for them before she went to sleep. Maybe the loved ones and survivors are now listening to Mariah's music to help them get though their sorrow. And maybe you have to have your head examined when your basis of someone's compassion or humanity is his/her Twitter account. Speaking of Twitter, here's a link that shows Mariah dedicating One Sweet Day to the victims. Enough hate. That's the only reason why this board has become less and less inviting. The world is already miserable as it is.

Article: Why Mariah Carey's Christmas hit will be around forever (58,272) by Bino from
What an enjoyable read. I believe more Mariah songs will be analyzed, interpreted, covered, and appreciated over the years like AIWFCIY.

Impressive. Haven't seen this before. That Christmas Time performance is beautiful.

Re: Adele (57,492) (57,497) by Bino from
I love Adele though she seems to sound the same in all her songs. But hers is a different case. It's only her third album. She's still at her peak. Even if Mariah follows Adele's footsteps, I doubt Mariah would be as successful. I do agree though that Mariah needs to do more ballads and make simple videos with a good storyline.

Re: License to kill (57,466) (57,476) by Bino from
The intro does sound a little bit like Can't Let Go. Have you also listened to the closing theme to License To Kill, i.e., Patti's "If You Asked Me To"? Impressive vocals with Mariah-esque hand gestures. Sorry off-topic.

I'll be there (57,446) by Bino from
Spot on post, Lamb_O_Chop. Talking about past performances, I'm happy to find that "I'll be there" (Thanksgiving) has finally been uploaded on MC Vevo. I imagine it to be harder to sing while sitting. But such a sweet, laid-back, angelic voice. She looked so beautiful too.

Re: I'm a broken record for live audio debates (57,434) (57,439) by Bino from
Randy, you sound like a broken record indeed. So you are, in your own words, disgusted, infuriated, mortified by Mariah. Such strong words. What else is left to say? I suppose it's time for you to accept that Mariah's early 90s voice will never come back. You keep harping on old performances and talk about how bad they were. When will it end? We get it. Move on.

Re: I'm going to reply (57,431) (57,437) by Bino from
It's funny that you find B rude and not Randy's post (the eternal sarcastic Mariah-can't-sing-and-hence-he's-mortified comment). You don't find that rude to Mariah and her fans?

Re: Randy (57,409) (57,418) by Bino from
Great post, Nikki. Didn't know most of these things, thanks for this. I'm afraid some will find these reasons as another excuse. But this post and Randy's last post only show that we can express our views and knowledge without unnecessary condescending tone. Randy's last post is different from the previous one, which probably meant he got the point. That is that we can criticise Mariah all we want, express our frustrations, and say negative things about her, but still in a decent way (this is a fan club, after all), i.e., without mockery and air of superiority. Otherwise, expect a negative reaction, especially from Baby. So, Randy, you think Mariah's Diva's Live performance was horrendous (you were mortified you said). Tell us why. In my opinion, aside from the fact that her voice had drastically changed that time, she would have not been able to "stand up next to them" because her voice is not as "powerful"; she is a lyric coloratura soprano (please correct me if I'm wrong), which means her voice is very agile and light, which means she would still have sounded less "full" and "loud", even though her voice was not strained, compared with the big-voice Aretha and Celine. Just my thoughts. Not an expert. It will be lovely to have a nice discussion.

What's the point of attacking Mariah and a 17 year old performance? Can you not make a criticism without sarcasm, bitterness, and bitchy remarks? And May, that's not what happened. Watch this.

Isn't it a bliss to you right now? (56,190) by Bino from
So the best article in years about Mariah's legacy and unrecognized contribution to pop music has come out. Finally, a write-up not about her clothes, her makeup, her hair, her billionaire boyfriend, or whatnot, but about her as an artist, a songwriter, a vocalist. An article that doesn't shy away from talking about her enduring, rarely talked about influence in music. She is never ever recognized for her incredible artistry. And whew, we have this. And yet all these fans are still mewling about her clothes? Like we're still in 1997? Pathetic. And you're asking her to grow up and "mature"? And the arrogance and "expertise" of some. She likes to expose her cleavage. Get over it. It's okay. It's not a big deal. Think about your life for once. I have read this article about the skimpy crazy clothes pop stars wear at MTV Awards or something. Mariah was in the list. It was 1997. Guess what, her dress was the classiest thing in that list. She looked marvelous, the others horrendous to say the least. It's not uncool to talk about good stuff for once. Or twice.

From the "Going for the high" review, this is a related article about some current pop stars losing their voice that perhaps will enlighten some fans. All I can say is God bless Mariah.

Songwriting (55,547) by Bino from
It's hard to top Butterfly, which is her most lyrical album. While I agree that "The Art of Letting Go" is quite bad lyrically, Mariah has written some gems of late. "Betcha Gon' Know" comes to mind. And the deceptively simple "Meteorite", probably the best lyrics from the last album.

Going for the high (55,542) by Bino from
That "Going for the high" article should teach some fans here in the board about the value of music and the deep connection between an artist and the fans. The critic/fan is realistic and clearly not stuck in the past. And it is such a breath of fresh air to read something from someone who not only has a knowledge of his craft, but also has understanding of the nuances of music and a sense of empathy above all. The tone is not arrogant, not condescending. Take heed.

Re: Songs that most hate but I happen to love (55,442) by Bino from
Did I Do That: (I) great intro with that sexy voice and xylophone-sounding beat; (II) the vocal layering; (III) the jarring, unintelligible Mystikal verse (her lover as a loser?) is a nice contrast to Maria's cool cooing and crooning; and (IV) the badass lyrics of course.

Vocals and lyrics (54,714) by Bino from
Interesting topic. My top 5 vocals:
1. If it's over
2. Jesus what a wonderful child
3. You're so cold
4. Forever
5. Anytime you need a friend
Lyrics
1. The roof
2. Close my eyes
3. Vision of love
4. Underneath the stars
5. Butterfly
In other news, how sweet and kind of Mariah to give a front row ticket to that kid with cancer. I hope people give her more credit, appreciate her, and stop telling her to grow up. If someone tells me that, I would be insulted. We don't really know for sure what happened between her and Walter. She made her decision a long time ago it seems. Deal with it, move on, and let's all grow up.

Vocal deterioration means the voice becomes progressively worse as time passes. There's a little truth to it (after '96) but it's a hyperbole that you and others keep shoving down our throats. We have ears, and we know the golden voice will never come back, but to constantly, endlessly say her voice has deteriorated is stretching it a bit. You mentioned about bad performances after 1995 and yet there are plenty of excellent performances as well. Why pretend they don't exist? Now that's not vocal deterioration, it's vocal inconsistency. The fact that two decades after her supposed vocal deterioration, we're still talking about it (with so many theories about her voice, just go to YouTube), and that she's still performing here and there, improving recently and slaying still sometimes, only shows the myth that is her voice - raw, flawed, but eternally astonishing, whether it's studio or live. About your "engineer-in-the-room" comment? Do you know for certain that it is true? And are you insinuating that she's a fake vocalist, that it's all made up? What is your point in bringing that up?

Mariah is an entertainer (54,647) by Bino from
Mariah is not a dancer, true. She normally doesn't have shows à la Broadway, yes. No spectacles. But she is an entertainer; she entertains people through her music, her voice. Speaking of which, I wouldn't describe it as deteriorating, i.e., becoming worse as time passes. That is only true from 1996 to 1997. But it simply isn't the case now. The problem with her voice is inconsistency. She can still sing well obviously, as shown in her last shows. About Mariah not selling out arenas instantly, that may be true. But then again she was the highest grossing female solo live act recently, and she have plenty of gigs coming up, which means there's a demand to see her, to be entertained by her. I suppose she's not doing bad.

Board of experts (54,590) by Bino from
How lovely to see so much judgment being tossed around in this board. Mariah is fat in here, Mariah doesn't look good in that dress. And, amazingly, so much expertise being shared. Mariah needs to do this, Mariah needs to stop doing that. Mariah is indeed lucky.

Walmart and Did I Do That (54,236) by Bino from
I thought she did quite well. Not bad. Now, I'm surprised Did I Do That is not getting much love. It's my favourite song from Rainbow. Cleverly written. You rhapsodize.

Mimi (53,865) by Bino from
Regarding Madonna, I see news about her mostly on my Facebook feed, maybe because she's coming to Manila this year. It's mostly positive things about her, and how her fans still put her on a pedestal (though her last great album was Ray of Light). Also, I suppose she's more respected in the industry than Mariah. Now, I can't quite make up my mind about AI. On one hand, I agree with you: that she should have said it differently, in a more diplomatic way. So as not to irk the public. Clean image. Nice diva, eh? That would have been great. On the other hand, I was thinking she fought her way to be where she is, and she's not a legend for no reason. She's a survivor. And if that guy blames her for the demise of the show, shouldn't she speak up her mind and be honest about what her experience was like? That they basically use her and that rapper, and that it was fake, which a lot of people already know anyway. So why can't she be truthful?
