About Jimbo from UK: Fan since 2003

The voice (47,218) by Jimbo from UK
The voice is damaged. Badly. It has been for a while. No surprise there. But it's got worse. Much worse. She has lost control (you can tell by the way she phrases her melodies that she has absolutely no idea when/if her voice is going to give up on her and break). I'm not a doctor, but I seriously recommend she gets some form of treatment, whatever that is. I love MC but the Tokyo performance was a disaster. Hopefully widespread negative coverage in the media will turn out to be something positive, by compelling her to address the issue head on. I like the way Adele was honest about her vocal problems, Mariah's never really admitted anything, well not the full extent of the problem. And she has resorted to vocal trickery to try and hide the issue (miming high notes, autune, blaming the weather etc). Not only does it effect how she sounds, it also impacts on her qualities as a performer. Instead of getting an empowered, sexy, diva on stage we see an insecure, nervous wreck. Look at her performance of All I Want For Christmas at the NCT lighting last year. In the undubbed version you see her sighing at the end of the song, she even mutters "oh heck it doesn't matter anyway". It is tragic. She sounds so dejected, so disappointed with herself. I just wish she would open up about the problem, and get the support, and love, she needs.

Divorce (46,414) by Jimbo from UK
It was clear to me that they were heading for divorce after seeing the Matt Lauer interview. She was so sombre and her answers were quite revealing, despite never directly admitting anything. The body language in the "home video" also further evidenced Mariah and Nick's frostiness. Not once did she embrace him, or even acknowledge him. Some of you dismissed my interpretation, but I think most would agree now that it's pretty obvious. I also think her troubled home life helps explain her, quite frankly, bizarre behaviour over the last few months. Endless gowns, erratic, rambling speech, substance abuse (?). She must have been going through hell. It was also obvious, at least to me, that many of the ballads on her last album were about Nick. Particularly Cry, Faded and One More Try. It's sad when any couple break up, especially when children are involved. To those who berated her for not focusing on her career as a way of distracting herself from her personal life, I suggest you gain some empathy. Everyone deals with crisis in different ways, we all have our own coping mechanisms. It's arrogant to think your method is the correct one. I hope that this negativity will at least inspire creativity. Butterfly, her greatest work, was born out of personal tragedy. And whilst Butterfly embraces rebirth, it ends on a deeply cautious note about freedom's limitations (Outside). Heartbreak can lead to reflection. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Legend (45,040) by Jimbo from UK
I know some of us often complain about Mariah, or express frustration at some of her choices. But deep down it all comes from love. How blessed are we to have heard such a mesmerising voice? So unique, soulful and rich. Irrespective of what you think about the current state of her voice, silly photoshopped cover art or her eccentricities, it is an immense privilege to hear new material from Mariah. She's a legend. She's been through a tremendous amount of pressure most of her adult life and has survived some very dark moments. MC if you're reading this, know that we all love you, and always will. Like if you agree. I wish all of you a glorious week.

Mariah's health (44,494) by Jimbo from UK
I was reading an article that discussed Mariah's visit to a park, dressed in a ball gown. It also referred to her recent trip on the New York Subway, again dressed in a ball gown. One of the readers' comments struck me: "IMHO, she has crossed the line from 'quirky and eccentric' to 'not well', should we be worried?" If a member of the general public is thinking this it surely must be a cause for concern? She doesn't seem happy in her personal life. Her NBC special revealed this. When Matt asked her to describe the place she inhabited emotionally right now she said that she's always been a pretty vulnerable person and has had to put up a wall as a defence mechanism, put it up and walk in the opposite direction. To me this implied that she has, unofficially, separated from Nick. Perhaps they will unconsciously uncouple? He was barely mentioned, and the interview ended with her reflecting on the need not to wallow in life's obstacles. Thoughts anyone?

Me I am Mariah (44,072) by Jimbo from UK
I've only heard two songs and I love them equally. Faded is pop perfection and Cry. is a neo-soul classic. Most importantly, the songs sound fresh. They are a delight to hear. Can't wait for the rest.

You're Mine (41,131) by Jimbo from UK
I just heard the slow version of You're Mine. It's very lush. Mariah's voice sounds good. The background sound effects remind me of Prince's Purple Rain.

Mariah's mental state (40,319) by Jimbo from UK
Record label issues, post-natal depression, marital problems, substance abuse, who knows, we won't ever know. I just hope she has a strong support network.

Mariah's mental state (40,317) by Jimbo from UK
I worry about MC. She comes across as unstable and rambling in interviews, and this is reminiscent of the Glitter era. Compare that with how polished her interviews were during the Charmbracelet or Mimi eras and one begins to wonder if she is suffering some form of anxiety disorder or other personal problem. Her career is of secondary importance, I just want her to be healthy and safe.

Tree lighting performance (40,095) by Jimbo from UK
Some of the comments on here are very harsh. I haven't seen the performance. I cannot find it on the web. Could someone please send me a link? I'm not one of those fans who thinks that Mariah is immune from criticism, but if she's visibly upset about her performance (as some of you reported) then we should be supportive rather than damning. How many have you had bad days at work? She's a human. Show some love.

Impromptu performance (39,879) by Jimbo from UK
I was really touched by Mariah's impromptu performance. I love hearing her sing when she's completely relaxed. The adlib for the "no longer live in your dominion" part of TAOLG was exquisitely beautiful, and I noticed that there was a very visceral connection with the audience. It reminded me of Nina Simone's live performances, and her ability to create an emotional nexus between herself and the audience. Mariah if you, or one of your team, is reading this, thank you very much!

New album (39,350) by Jimbo from UK
This woman has sacrificed most of her adult life for the music industry. In my opinion she should be allowed take as long as she wants to finish her next album. You don't rush a master! To be honest, I'm glad she isn't churning albums out every year like she did in her twenties. Her life was very unbalanced back then. It was all work. Mariah's in a happier place now, and that is what matters more than anything else because, fundamentally, forget the legend status, the big hair, short skirts, whatever (lambs will get the reference) MC, if you're reading this, I love you much.

Crazy voice (38,579) by Jimbo from UK
The Macy performance of Hero was really strong. It made me realise I don't understand Mariah's voice. When I start thinking it's in terminal decline, she proves me wrong with a very solid performance, full of emotion and richness of tone. Her voice is so inconsistent. How can she sound as dreadful as she did on the GMA Beautiful performance and then slay it yesterday? Any opinions from vocal experts amongst the lambs would be most welcome (Di, as an opera singer, in particular).

Scam (38,502) by Jimbo from UK
Mariah mustn't still claim to be a vocalist if she can't sing live. Beautiful isn't even that hard to sing. She must be having major vocal problems.

Remixes (38,438) by Jimbo from UK
Does anyone else get the impression these remixes are a F-U to the record label? They are so rubbish it is astonishing. Mariah's no idiot, she must know they're terrible, and is deliberately releasing them anyway. Whatever the reason for them, they're insulting to her fans.

Mariah /Miguel (38,277) by Jimbo from UK
Does anyone else find it weird that Mariah is on holiday with Miguel in Capri? Where is Nick in all of this? And why is Mariah going into the Blue Grotto with Miguel instead of her own husband? Is she letting go of her own husband? I'm worried.

Mariah's mental health (38,237) by Jimbo from UK
People speculating that Mariah has some sort of anxiety disorder need to leave her the hell alone and keep their rumours to themselves. I'm all for criticising Mariah when she deserves it, but speculating on someone's mental health is totally out of line. Even superstars should be entitled to that fragment of privacy. They are humans too. Believe it or not.

Ballad (38,122) by Jimbo from UK
My All is my favourite Mariah ballad. Lyrically it is poetical, and the singing is a work of art. Restrained and very longing.

Wow (37,978) by Jimbo from UK
The posts on this forum are getting a little abusive. If someone wants to "whine" about something Mariah related, so be it, let them. It can't be disturbing you that much and you can always ignore the post. The forum should be inclusive. Let's not bully one another. Be nice or leave. Any lamb recognise that phrase?

Mariah live (37,962) by Jimbo from UK
I agree with the sentiment other users have already expressed. Why can't Mariah just give one "honest" performance. No more dubbing, no more singing along to a backing track, no more earpiece excuses. It's frustrating. I'm sure we all fell in love with Mariah's voice before anything else she had to offer. Remember the early performances of Vanishing? And I still love her voice, I just wish she would be honest during her performances. I'm tired of seeing a nervous, insecure singer on stage, scared to use that instrument that made her into the superstar she is today, because she's lost all confidence in its ability. She's a legend. Her voice is the most unique and beautiful sound I've ever heard. It has a dreamy richness, and a tone that is so distinctive you know immediately who is singing. There must be some way to repair it, surgery or vocal exercises?

Does anyone know if Mariah still owns a villa in Capri, Italy? And if so, where is it?

Beautiful (37,716) by Jimbo from UK
I love it, it's very cathartic and catchy. Never heard Miguel before, and I have to say his voice is like silk, it has the most stunning texture that totally compliments Mariah. I wish the song had one more verse and a proper bridge, but isn't there meant to be a longer version coming out as well?
