Oh, please (83,150) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
Be nice or leave. That used to be the motto. Now it's who gets the most points for "intelligently reasoning" their disdain for Mariah, disguising it as care. Perhaps her voice has disappeared into the ether from whence it came - how dare you say what she should do or what you would do when you have no idea what it's like to possess that gift and lose it. And no, it's not all Mariah's life choices that have made it so. So many other incredible vocalists continue to smoke and drink, and maintain their voices to a recognisable degree. I for one know that Mariah had the greatest vocal ability known to man, and at her prime she was beyond phenomenal. I can understand the frustration at the smoke and mirror tactics but where is the humanity? To have that and to have lost it. We don't know how that feels, and we will never know. And believe it or not, there are many people in the world happy to see her lip sync, because they love the person and respect the gift that she gave the world for so long. If you don't like her as she is now and can't learn empathy, then please, I implore you. Be nice, or leave.

Hey Eric. I keep trying to upload a pic of me but it never seems to stick. I only have access to the site on a cell phone so could you help me out with uploading a pic?

Love, life and Mariah (82,686) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
Hey guys, just wanted to share something wit my MC lambily. I'm currently in Miami, FL and it is amazing here. To all the American lambs, I hope I'd get the same amazing treatment I get from your fellow countrymen here because wow, everyone has been amazing to me. I went on a date tonight with an absolutely beautiful gentleman called Nick. And when I say gentleman, I mean gentleman. I was treated like royalty. We kissed in the car when he dropped me off (no first date nudey here haha) and he knows I'm from the UK and he from Jamaica but lives in Miami, but you know what? I've uppped sticks and moved before, that's just the kinda guy I am. I'm now outside having a gin and a cigarette, and listening to our girl. I, of course, had to show him my pic of meeting MC, and tell him how much she has positively affected my life. I'm hearing songs of hers as if it's the first time. Of course, had to give Slipping Away a listen as it's the hot topic and I'm on board. Incredible song. I have a huge thing for Lana Del Rey but Mariah will always be number one to my ears. Anyway, perhaps off topic, but wanted to share the love. Maybe one day I'll be a resident here in Miami and maybe not, but a guy has a right to dream, right?

So the best post ever is one that addresses things that weren't even said? Ok. Girl, take several seats.

Re: (82,060) and (82,072) (82,074) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
Number one, I didn't say her career is in the best shape right now. Number two, I was responding to Andrew because I feel that there is never anything but negativity coming from his so-called tough love posts. Number three, I am not a career advisor so how am I going to consider myself qualified enough to offer such advise. You clearly didn't read my message properly because your reply is full of words that you're saying I said that I actually didn't. What I said, and I'll repeat, she doesn't need to change who she is. Who are you to say what's fake or not? You don't know, you don't know her, I don't know her, we just have what we witness to work with, but you can't make educated assumptions, just as I can't, because we have never met her for a long enough period of time to know who she actually is. What I said was, regardless of career, she must never change, not for the sake of that her career or us or anything because she is a human being and she is valid just as we all are, whether people enjoy us or like us or not. If I could assume to give her advice, it would be just to truly be herself, get the right support she needs (medication, people, the right employer) so that she can actually give herself as she is. I don't want her to sit there being sensible and business like all the time, because she's not a lawyer or a doctor, she's an entertainer, and an artist, and I love seeing the many different aspects of a person, be it happy or sad or manic or stable. I love that she has shown so many sides of her huge personality, and you have no right to say what is fake or not. It may seem fake to you, we can't tell you how you feel, but you or I have no right to state as fact who or what she is. She is Mariah, and I for one hope she continues to simply be Mariah.

Re: New album title (82,056) (82,060) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
Umm, no. She doesn't need to come across as a different person, or with a different persona, or a different anything. She's quite unique in the world and she should come across as her. Not what you, or I, or a thousand others would "advise", but just as her. Whether you laugh this off or not (which you will) you're a nasty, unkind and thoughtless man with no regard to anybody else's experiences of the world but your own. And thus, unwilling to understand and accept another's way of being or point of view. I know exactly what you will think when you read this, Andrew, yet I don't care because I'm going to say - you are a repulsive human being with a very negative view on life. And people who tell you they think otherwise are far stronger and kinder people than me, because they will tell you you're fine. And yes, I did say people should be themselves, and I don't want or ask you to change, but I find you inherently distasteful and nasty. And you're continuing to come here thinking you're right and just being honest and know what's best for Mariahs career, no you're wrong for her as a person because as likeable as you might force her to be to recreate the glory of the golden years you'd stifle a unique, beautiful and vulnerable person. Shame on you. Shame.

Incredible (81,776) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
I hate that the word "genius" is so easily bandied around these days, but I have to say, I do think Mariah is a genius when it comes to music. She has a talent for music, she can hear things that don't exist and had the ability to bring that to life, she does things with her vocals which are so unique and inimitable that my only conclusion is, musically, the woman is a genius. Even in some of her less popular music, there are glimpses of this ability at play. Mariah songs are like symphonies unto themselves at times, and I for one am so glad I am alive at a time when a true musical genius has given the world her music. And on a side note, people of genius are usually bat shit crazy, and that's no bad thing. To all the "crazy" folks out there, keep shining, you are amazing and there is no shame from being anything other than the "norm".

Mariah Carey (81,775) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
Firstly, I'd like to start this message with a huge burst of pride that I feel for Mariah sharing this with the world, knowing full well so many will say horrid things, will say "See. I knew it." And so much more that I can't comprehend. I don't have the small mind of a bigot, so I don't know, but I know she will face this, and so many will laugh at her, but she has done this regardless. I am so proud, of you, Mariah. My heart bursts with pride. I love you. I'm glad to see so much love and support for our girl here. But, secondly, and I hate to address it, but I have to. Andrew. Yes, dear Andrew. You prompt another to post about you. Really, why? A healthy dose of cynicism is healthy in the western world where even a fart is praised and criticism is seen as the devil, but Andrew, can't you just lay off? I often times agree with some of your less popular opinions, just as often disagree, however, this time I had to respond. I understand what you say, and I would never vilify like so many are quick to do to you, but for once, can't you replace those jaded glasses with, if not rose-tinted, colourless ones? This is one of the world's actual living legends, baring her soul for the world to once again pick apart, and you can't even see the tremendous good for what it is? I do understand what you're saying, but for the woman who has always held the diva rep and supposedly laughed off the vitriol sprouted at her, this was by no means an easy thing to reveal. She will be ridiculed by cretins endlessly for this, and yet she chose to do it. For once, just try and open your eyes to a view outside of your own. You come across as a very intelligent man, but sadly, your intelligence and reasoning are oft times used to ridicule and belittle others, and I don't see what you gain from this. Having a voice is something we should all have, but you use yours at times as a vicious weapon, and what you see as right or sense is often just, I don't know, nasty. It is nasty. I don't want to seem I am attacking you, I appreciate your contribution here and what I think of you doesn't matter but I think you are a good person. You just sometimes seem to be unable to see the beauty and the good in the world, and I think that is very sad. Not in a pathetic way, in a I genuinely find it sad kinda way. Be happy, everyone, and once again, I am so, so proud of you Mariah, and I love you more today than I have in my twenty years of fandom.

Debates and ideas (62,743) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
The genuine reason I come to this board to discuss Mariah is because, shock horror, I'm a huge huge fan. If anybody cares to read through my post histor, the majority of my posts are overwhelmingly positive and full of praise and admiration. It's only recently that I've started expressing concerns. Nothing anybody posts regarding their own opinion is a fact here, not one person, which should be obvious, and as such, sometimes I do read other points of view and think "I didn't think of it that way, I actually agree". That's why I like to share ideas, read ideas and discuss. But there are people who immediately cry foul, and become emotional to the point of hysterics, picking up one word or phrase to bash or further their own agendas, whilst ignoring the posts as a whole. Although I enjoy when people do challenge my opinion, and encourage it because it may make me consider things from a different point of view, using buzz words or phrases such as "hater", "slay", "calling you out" etc are not conducive to proper debate because it's just people getting angry and emotional and often incoherent, reading into things the wrong way or in some cases actually putting words into the mouth of the poster. I just want to point out that I've no secret or non secret hate for Mariah, I genuinely do love her, I just don't have anybody close to me who is a fan so I come to this board to express thoughts and ideas with other fans. And ps Natalia I'm sorry I spelt your name incorrectly in my previous post.

Natalie (62,742) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
It's a combination of things, as pointed out. Of course, the state of undress alone doesn't signal a change, but even regarding that, we've seen Mariah dress so incredibly well recently, which shows she can be super sexy and classy. If any messages said simply "she's wearing revealing clothing, she's going through a midlife crisis" then I could say fair enough to your message. But frankly you ignored the whole post and sentiments of the post and picked up on one thing that wouldn't make sense in isolation. It's good that we can discuss opinions, but not so good when people pick and choose elements of a whole in an attempt to ridicule or discredit the original post. If you've sound logic to poo poo the idea of a midlife crisis and can address the post as a whole, then perhaps there's a worthwhile discussion to be had.

Mid life and career crisis (62,729) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
Parties and often hanging out with people much younger? Check. Drinking a lot and acting the fool? Check. A general blasé attitude to the God given talent and ability? Check. Acting younger at middle age than during the 20s and 30s? Check. Wearing less and less clothing in public? Check, check, check. I could go on and on, but this whole mess, and by now I've seen more than enough to say that I feel this whole era and current situation is nothing but a dire mess, seems to me like one hell of a mid life crisis. The whole thing is tacky and uncomfortable to witness. I'll continue to observe, just because quite frankly, it's fascinating. I've never seen someone I admire so much derail so quite completely. The worst part is, the people who really do want to help Mariah are being held back and forced to watch this mess unfold before their eyes and cannot do anything. I don't know where Stella came from, I would probably guess at a place where there are flames and eternal damnation, but wherever it was, she's really picked Mariah up and is running with her at the speed of light into a very solid impassable brick wall.

Mariah Carey: icon (62,595) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
For whatever reason that still to this day (and probably forever more will) remains unfathomable to me, Mariah has never truly got the recognition she deserves as the astronomically talented artist she is. For the person with the greatest voice of all time, she also has one of the strongest and most unique songwriting abilities. Whatever happens, as Marissa said, Mariah (as far as I'm concerned) has deserved that award since the release of Mariah Carey in 1990. The fact that she continued to produce album after album of incredible music, beautifully sung makes her worthy of that award hundreds of times over. I've always got the feeling that Mariah is going to be the Mozart of our times. That is, true appreciation will never be realised until she is no longer with us (far into the future, God willing). So no matter what happens personally or professionally, or whatever I may think of X outfit or Y interview, I just want to say to Mariah: I recognise that you are musically a genius, you possess the voice of a goddess, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing that incredible gift with the world. God bless Mariah, my Icon Award goes to you above all others, now and always.

Curiouser and curiouser (62,532) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
I can't make out what is happening in Mariah land right now. It's looking more and more like a dark twisted nightmare than a sweet, sweet fantasy. That Stella woman is awful. What is actually going on? Of all the eras we've been through, this one is definitely the strangest. Even this messageboard is bizarre lately. Is it the end of days? (Dramatic question for dramatic post because we love the drama.)

Lee Daniels (62,446) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
So Lee Daniels, who does actually know Mariah personally, and who is as far as both of them have stated, a true friend of Mariah, has echoed sentiments that not only I but a few others on this board have spoken. We who are "haters" and want to do nothing but bringing Mariah down. I stood by my points when I made them, and although unnecessary, I do feel somewhat vindicated because after being attacked with accusations, my points can now be seen as observation. And as a huge fan who has and will love Mariah forever, I do a lot of observing. It's never my intention to bring Mariah down or make her feel bad, but sometimes we do need to be questioned when we can't see that what we're doing or the road we're taking may not be good for us. "Geniuses have to be saved from themselves sometimes," said Lee Daniels. Amen to that, say I.

Why you mad (62,338) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
Sheila, I couldn't have choreographed this situation. You demonstrated my point excellently. Thank you. I do enjoy when we get the "H" word thrown about (hater) in one of its many guises. Anyway, I really enjoyed M on WWHL. I thought she was fun, and looked gorgeous, she seemed relaxed and I just really enjoyed watching. Also, in the space of what, three days, Mariah has worn two dresses that make her look absolutely sublime, yet threw that hideous print atrocity into the mix between the two. Sometimes I'm sure she does it on purpose haha.

Super (crazy) fans (62,296) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
Have super crazy fans always existed? Are we now only getting to know about it because of the Internet? I mean, we have the monsters, the Beyhive, whatever Madonna calls her fans etc and of course, Mariah and the lambs. Now although I feel all this is cute, I'm more than happy to be known simply as a huge fan. I've no interest in belonging to these groups of crazed loons (and in my experience, people in these groups tend to be on the more fragile, and actively seek to hunt out "haters", these are scary times, folks). Forgive me, but when being a fan of somebody means that you have a mini breakdown over every perceived slight of said person, perhaps it's time to reevaluate and come back to planet earth.

Mariah's World (62,265) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
The trailer for Mariah's World actually looks fantastic, I have to give credit here. I was so worried about this, but it actually looks like an incredibly fun romp. Love Emotions playing throughout, it's almost like the trailer for a comedy movie haha. The only thing that did make me laugh was in the trailer Mariah says "I'm just like everybody else". Mariah, far from it hahaha, and that's why we love you. Looking forward to this show immensely after seeing that trailer. Oh, and to Biggest MC fan, many of us have been critical and will continue to be critical of Mariah. If we don't like something, we say it. Difference is, most of our posts come from a place of love, whereas you only tear her down and praise other artists to high heaven. I really think you should show yourself the door and lose the key on the way out honey.

Mariah and "that dress" (62,223) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
At the GLAAD awards, Mariah brought sexy and tasteful in one outfit. She looked like a goddess, simply radiant. When she gets it right, she does it like no other. Wow.

Biggest MC fan (62,221) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
The biggest fan amongst those who don't like her, it seems. And please stop with the Rihanna praising, oh she who can do no wrong in your eyes. It's boring, it's tasteless and completely irrelevant on a Mariah Carey fan site. The word legend is thrown around too easily these days. Good grief.

Mariah Carey (62,205) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
So today's blast from the past is the incredible debut, Mariah Carey. It must be well over since I last listened to this album start to finish, and it's just phenomenal. Truly one of the greatest voices to grace this planet, I believe of all time. What I enjoyed most was the fact that I still know every single word to every single song, all the ad libs and nuances haha. And one of my all time ultimate favourite songs, Sent From Up Above. I don't know what it is about that song that has always struck such a chord, but it really does. I adore it. I remember I bought this album when I was 13 (I'm now 27), I had to order it from HMV as they didn't have it in stock and my parents were still suspicious of Internet shopping haha. I couldn't wait to get home to play it, and as usual, when I did, as I listened to the music I read the lyrics from the insert. Such good times. Ahh, memories. Anyway, just wanted to share this with you guys.

Ian (62,043) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
Whilst I respect your views, I feel that as a huge fan of somebody, I inevitably get caught up in the legend of them ie the person just as much as their art. For me, it's all part of being a mega fan. Yes, we don't know her, and it's all speculation, but personally I enjoy discussing Mariah as a person as well as her music. I've always been attracted by her magnetic persona, and from what I've seen of her over the years, I feel like she's somebody I really would to have as a friend. Ain't gonna happen, but it's still nice to feel that my favourite musical artist of all time is also a brilliant person. I'm sure it's the same for all super fans of any artist - they want to discuss the person as much the music. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just being a fan. Anyway, just my two cents, and as this is a Mariah Carey fan site and not just a "The Music of Mariah Carey" fan site, I'm going to continue discussing all aspects of this extraordinary artist and person.

Memoirs (62,042) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
Haha Licia, yes that's a pretty good sign that you really do actually love that album. I feel the same about (don't hate me) Rainbow. There are so many songs I love on that album, but it's by far my least favourite. It's the only single album of M's that I just have never been able to feel a connect with, even though I love Heartbreaker (and its remix), CTTA, Bliss, Crybaby, Petals and TGIFY. I agree with Ty that Betcha Gon' Know would have been a brilliant opportunity for an epic video, but I also think there were a lot of songs there that had that potential, especially It's A Wrap (I was also disappointed by the videos for HateU, Angel's Cry and IWKWLI, amazing songs who's videos let them down). Andrew, no, on the contrary, I find the album one of the most cohesive of Mariah's career. I really feel like she starts with a story and takes it through its stages until that glorious climax with IWKWLI. And then the remixes of Obsessed at the end is almost like her throwing a party for happiness haha. There are moments of bitterness, anger, pain and grief on this album, more so I feel than any of her others, but also intense joy and love. I almost feel like it could be a movie soundtrack. For the lambs who bleat on (sorry couldn't help it) that all we want are number ones, this album was never going to be a smash hit because it isn't mainstream. What it is though is quality music made and sung with passion and integrity, and was M trying something different and succeeding, all in my humble opinion, of course. And just an FYI, I adore E=MC2 (it's in my top 5), but that's for another long ass post on a different day.

Memoirs (62,024) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
So I listened to Memoirs again today for the first time in a long time - I realise I'd forgotten just how brilliant that album is. There are some incredible songs on that album, HateU, Candy Bling, Ribbon, It's A Wrap, Languishing and Angels Cry. I found myself very very moved by Angels Cry today. It's so beautiful and heartfelt. Mariah truly does have the best catalogue of any artist I know. Here's to new music from the artist we all of us here love.

From now on (61,963) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
To hell with diplomacy, I'm going to speak exactly my mind. I love Mariah, always have, always will. Can't fathom that in your mind? Who cares, not my problem. I've spent years upon years coming to this site heaping praise on Mariah, because she is the best and I adore her, and the one time I criticise, and have a valid point, the royal family come out from fantasy land and suddenly it's like a cat amongst the pigeons. Mariah, I love you, now and forever, but my previous points still stand. That's just how I feel. And to the folks on here who actually had a discussion with me, thank you, and I hope to have more discussions on all manner of topics in the future.

B from USA (61,948) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
Considering I never ever say and don't hold racist, misogynistic, homophobic or xenophobic views, and the fact that I've never and would never personally insult any person on this board, I find it unfortunate that you had to lower the tone to that level. Not only do I not hold these views, I don't condone them, and my message was just an attempt to make people think before they start to attack each other. Perhaps you felt that your comment was shady and perhaps even amusing, but it comes across as tasteless and unnecessary. I'm sorry you felt the need to comment this way.
