Rock Hall to announce nominees on Thursday

Will The Moody Blues finally make it in? What about longtime nominees like N.W.A., The Marvelettes or Chic? Or will a newly eligible act steal their thunder? Those questions, and more, will be answered when the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame unveils its nominees for the Class of 2016 this Thursday, October 8. The nominees will up for induction at next April's ceremony (details on that will also be revealed Thursday).

It is still unknown who will make the ballot. However, longtime snubs like N.W.A., Chic, Deep Purple, The Marvelettes, The Spinners and War have a good chance once again. There are also recent nominees like Sting, LL Cool J, The Smiths and Cleveland-born Nine Inch Nails who could make an appearance.

This year's list of newly eligible acts is a diverse mix of popular 1990s artists, including Blur, Smashing Pumpkins, A Tribe Called Quest, Ice Cube and Mariah Carey. An act is eligible for the first time during the nominating year 25 years after its first official release. Thus, someone like Pearl Jam or Tupac Shakur is eligible for the 2017 ceremony.

Unlike previous years, which included nominees like Green Day and Nirvana, there are no sure thing for the 2016 ceremony. Thursday's ballot should be very interesting. The list of inductees will be chosen by around 800 longtime voters and announced in December. So who do you think will/should get in?
