When The Late Show returned from holiday hiatus on Tuesday night, host Stephen Colbert wasted no time in parodying one of the strangest pop culture events of the break: Mariah Carey's now-infamous New Year's Eve performance, which was marred by technical issues and left Carey feeling "mortified", as she told EW. As Colbert began his monologue Tuesday night, he claimed, Mariah-like, that he was unable to see what was written on his prompter.
"I'm sorry, there's nothing in my prompter here. Jim, can we fix that?" Colbert said, as he was swarmed by backup dancers. "I'm sorry, I was not informed. Am I supposed to be singing right now?" The dancers then carried Colbert away as he exclaimed, "We've got a great show!"
