Mariah facing huge legal battle after cancelling tour

Mariah Carey's 2017 doesn't seem to have gotten off to the best start. And it looks like things could be taking another turn for the worse. After her disastrous Times Square New Year's Eve performance, Mimi is doing everything in her power to look to the future. However, she's facing a setback.

Promoters in Chile are expected to drop another bombshell on the singer by lodging lawsuit in a Los Angeles court in the next few days linked to the cancellation of her South American tour last year. The Emotions singer cited "promoter negligence" as a reason to cancel her shows in Brazil, Argentina and Chile last October and November.

She previously took to Twitter to tell her fans: "To all of my lambs in South America, I am devastated that a portion of this tour had to be cancelled. Thank you for all of the excitement and love - I hope to see you soon, my darlings!"

However, reports then surfaced saying she had to cancel performances in Buenos Aires, the Chilean capital Santiago, and the Brazilian cities of Sao Paulo and Porto Alegre because she was so upset over her break-up with Australian billionaire James Packer.

Now, reports in Chlie claim Fenix Entertainment Group is preparing a lawsuit against the We Belong Together hitmaker for financial losses and brand image damage. The suit is expected to be lodged in an LA court later this week, and alleges that Carey decided unilaterally she would not be performing.

The move from the Chilean promoter could then prompt legal action from its Bueno Aires-based parent company according to reports. The problems that led to the cancellations are believed to have began with ticket sales problems in Brazil, when Fenix Chile had already sold nearly 8000 tickets for her Santiago debut. The dates were part of Carey's The Sweet Sweet Fantasy Tour, which she kicked off in Europe in 2016. All tickets received refunds.

A looming court battle would certainly upset Mimi's hopes of moving on from the embarrassing NYE blunder, and stop her from concentrating on her return to the stage in March for her US tour. Mariah announced her decision to take a break from "social media moments" over the weekend, explaining: "Although I am going to fulfil my professional obligations, this is an important time for me to finally take a moment for myself and to deal with my loved ones and to prepare for my upcoming tour in March."

It comes as Mariah blamed Dick Clark Productions for the shocking Times Square disaster, alleging they had "foiled and humiliated" her in claims which the firm branded "defamatory" and "absurd". After the embarrassing ordeal, Mariah said: "My true fans have been so supportive and I am so appreciative of them and everybody that came out to support me after the fact because it really was an incredible holiday season that turned into a horrible New Year's Eve."

If this is true then it's fair enough. Blaming promoters when it was her own decision is an awful thing to do, and I have to say, I didn't buy it at the time. She was incredibly vague. What a way to treat your fans and innocent people (promoters) who are just doing their job.

I went to the Christmas concert in NYC and the after party just over 3 weeks ago, spoke to many fans who knew other fans from South America, and no one got a refund from the promoters back then. I think the promoters are just trying to get a piece of MC while she is vulnerable. Why the lawsuit now when it has been 3 months? And if Mariah was upset from her break up, that is totally understandable, she is a human being and have feelings like all of us. I would probably take time off from work if the same thing happened to me.

I'm one of the Brazilian lambs who's had the show cancelled on, and I assure you they did a mass refund for all ticket holders I know/talked to here in South America. So, whoever said to you they didn't should get their refund back to the CC they used to purchase the tickets without having to do anything. Now then, if it's true that Mariah just canceled the shows because of her break up with James, being sued is just normal. That's business, my darling. Tour promoters do not care if she feels bad after a break up. Right away, she tried to blame them (maybe they really did a bad job, who knows?). Ugh. It turned into a whole freaking thing and I think there's more to it that we are not seeing. Mariah's clearly going through something very distressing because she usually gives her performances 110%, but lately she's not really been performing - it's either a lip-sync job or she doesn't turn up. Now is this legal battle going to make things even worse? I don't know. She needs to get it all sorted ASAP.
