Allure mag covers Mariah Carey moments
Don't expect any insights into Mariah Carey's ongoing dramas in the September issue of Allure. Its cover story on the troubled singer was timed for the release of her first film, "Glitter", and its accompanying album, not the emotional and physical breakdown that has landed Carey in the hospital at least once in the past few weeks.
Writer Vanessa Grigoriadis mentions Carey's recent problems, and opines that "in 20/20 hindsight, the four or five times Carey rescheduled this interview and the two-hour-long delay on the appointed evening could have been signs that the Grammy-winning diva was not on the top of her game." That's a stretch - a celebrity with an inability to honor time and appointments is hardly a sign of deeper troubles. But then Grigoriadis is just trying to add heft and relevance to what is a pretty lightweight piece. It isn't so much an interview as a series of Mariah moments - Mariah talking about her new house (there's an in-house hair salon designed to the specifications of her stylist and make-up artist); Mariah on her ability to build muscles fast ("If I were to work out for two days, I would look like I worked out for two weeks," she says); Mariah's views on plastic surgery ("Whatever's going to make the person feel better about themselves"). Several times, Carey refers to needing more rest, but those interested in finding out what led to her meltdown will have to wait.
As skimpy as the Carey piece is, it's the best thing here - unless you're looking for tips on updating your classic Meg Ryan shag, the proper nail polish colors for your toes in fall, and lots of clothes you'll never wear, either because you can't afford them or aren't shaped like the typical coat rack of a model.
