Big red adds white & blue

God Bless America, a compilation CD of patriotic and inspirational songs due Oct. 16 from Columbia, opens with Celine Dion's version of the title song. But this is a newly recorded studio performance produced by David Foster, not her live performance from the milestone telethon, America: A Tribute to Heroes. Likewise, God Bless America's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "Hero", sung on the telethon by Paul Simon and Mariah Carey, respectively, will be the original hits, not the recent live performances. Those will be contained on a CD and DVD to be released Nov. 13 by Interscope. Columbia will donate a portion of the proceeds to The Twin Towers Fund, while proceeds from the Interscope project are earmarked for the September 11 Fund. Also appearing on God Bless America are Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Lee Greenwood, Gloria Estefan, Bill Withers and John Mellencamp, among others.

Many thanks to Mariah Buzz.
