Songstress Mariah Carey is listing an Atlanta-area home with a recording booth for $6.5 million, according to the listing agent. The roughly 4-acre property is located in the suburb of Sandy Springs, just outside Atlanta's tony Buckhead neighborhood. Property records show Ms. Carey bought the estate for $5.65 million in November 2021.
Built in the 1950s, the colonial-style house spans about 12,600 square feet with nine bedrooms, according to listing agent Shanna Bradley of Ansley Real Estate, an affiliate of Christie's International Real Estate.
The interior of the house has crown moldings and millwork, intricate coffered ceilings and arched doorways, Ms. Bradley said. The small recording booth was installed by Ms. Carey, Ms. Bradley said. The house also has a large kitchen with a marble-topped island, french doors leading to the backyard, a home theater, a workout room and a wood-paneled library. The primary bedroom has a private patio, a fireplace, a wet bar, and a pink-walled dressing room with a makeup mirror and salon chair. Outside, the grounds comprise a pool, tennis courts, a three-car garage and an entertainment pavilion with a built-in grill.
Ms. Carey, known for songs like "Always Be My Baby" and "All I Want For Christmas", grew up in Huntington, N.Y., on Long Island.
A spokesperson for Ms. Carey couldn't be reached for comment. Ms. Bradley said the singer's band is in the Atlanta area and she lived there during the onslaught of the Covid-19 pandemic, but now wants to return to her roots in New York. Ms. Bradley said a burglary at Ms. Carey's home in July didn't contribute to the decision to sell.
The Atlanta-area housing market has been booming over the last couple of years, "with people moving here from all over," Ms. Bradley said. She said the area is popular with people in the music and entertainment industry. In August, the median listing price in Sandy Spring was $695,000, up 22% from August 2021, according to Realtor.com.
