Christian Siriano criticizes Mariah Carey's fashion sense

Fashion designer and "Project Runway" winner Christian Siriano criticized the fashion style of pop diva Mariah Carey, telling OK! Magazine's Red Carpet Confidential the singer "likes to be overly sexy". During USA Network's "American Character: A Photographic Journey" launch held Thursday, March 12 at Stephan Weiss Gallery in N.Y.C., Christian said, "I think she's so fabulous and she's such a superstar, but she's never been a fashion icon. She's more of a music icon."

Giving more details on what he doesn't like about the way Mariah dresses, Christian explained, "Tightwise her clothes are OK. It depends. Not always. It's not all the time, just every now and then." He continued, "I don't think she needs to be. I think she could wear jeans and a jacket and a blouse, and be fabulous. I think covered up, she would still be amazing - because she is amazing," adding that, "I feel like if she wore amazing haute couture, she'd be even bigger than she is now."

Unlike Mariah, Mary-Kate Olsen got thumbs up from Christian for her choice of "really edgy, cool, and downtown" outfits. "She doesn't care what she's wearing. It's what real people really throw on. Like those edgy, hip girls who are slumming around and going to clubs all night. I like it," Christian claimed.

Christian, additionally, also praised Cate Blanchett and Kate Winslet's fashion sense, calling their styles as "classic and chic." Lady GaGa is the other notable person who earned praise from Christian. "Just panties and a blouse. That's all you need. I don't think a day-to-day woman could pull it off, but GaGa's fabulous," he explained.
