Re: Tommy Mottola, a monster? (97,554) (97,557)

The real question is if Tommy [was] black would she have felt the need to break away so badly? Would she still be giving him his props the way she does to the predatory LA Reid?

Re: Languishing (97,519) (97,521)

I would think Languishing was about Pat if she did not have her on the Christmas album and performed with her many times after singing Languishing. She was even with her on Idol in 2013, and Beacon 2014. However maybe Mariah was trying her best even though all those feelings were present and true. For me it seems like Mariah always needs a story. The enemy was Tommy for almost two decades and now that it's not as interesting the story seems to be that her family is the enemy. Could very well be true, if it is then it's really sad. The two common themes in all the stories are race and control. I do believe Mariah felt less than, and then under a incredible amount of control, but now she can't possibly still feel less than or controlled can she? Time to make peace with it all.

The can't breathe imagery sure fits the Tommy theme but unless it was a song she started in the 1990's, I can't see where she was at in her life by 2009 to be going back singing a song about Tommy. I know she did in 2008, but that was more of an empowering song and a lot happened a year later as in marriage to a new husband. Why would she be wondering or needing Tommy's support in 2009?

You’re Mine late Night Valentine Mix (97,385)

You're Mine Eternal would sound amazing with a mini late night Valentine mix. Wasn't there an extended version originally? That song would sound so groovy and fresh in this this atmosphere.

This should be Mariah's image for the next album/era. Her hair was perfect, the best color in years. Her outfit was serious yet contemporary. The whole package screamed artist. In a way that she hasn't done in a long long time. He voice was great. The mood was there, the attitude was there, it seemed like the Mimi if she would've continued with The Emancipation Of Mimi era all this time or even the Mariah from just after MTV's unplugged but all these years later. I'm hearing the general public even commenting like they never have before. This is a grown mature artist. This is Mariah Carey.

The miscarriage was near the end of 2008. She promoted the album pretty heavily from February 2008 (SNL) to November 2008 (AMA's). Then that was it. No tour. By January of 2009 she had started working on MOAIA.

I'm That Chick was also performed everywhere (MTV Hills, GMA, Fashion Rocks, Canadian Idol). Migrate was performed on Saturday Night Live and BET's relativity special. Bye Bye only on American Idol and Oprah. Now that I think of it E=MC2 had mega promo. Not to mention the awards shows she performed on.

For the follow up to Touch My Body in the summer of 2008? I think I'm That Chick as more poppy dance music was starting to emerge on the horizon and Mariah could've been one step ahead of the curve.

Melissa has been the best manager she's had since TEOM (when she originally worked with Melissa). Now with her being a partner in a firm she probably even would have more pull. Strange Mariah didn't stick with her.

The work he did with the Weeknd last year was insanely good. He and Mariah would make beautiful music together I believe. Max Marin I should've put in the message.

If this is going to be what it is for the rest of the eras I would've preferred she had done this all in 2020 before Christmas and 2021 could be looking towards the future.

Usually you stay with your manager no matter where they go. That is if you're happy with their work.

Narada Michael Walden (97,247)
by T from USA

In a world where record labels invest only as much funds to your next project as based on your last one (“what have you done for me lately”) it doesn’t look good that Mariah will get the budget or the keys to work with the top producers in the industry. We know JD will always be by her side but with her influence and connections I’m sure she could still gather a good group for her next album. Narada Michael Walden just commented on her Shawn Mendez post saying that they should create a new by together and to reach out. So even if Sony doesn’t set up those expensive producer/writer camps or shells out for Cardi B and Drake, she can still create a mega hit album if she chooses to. PS. Walter would also be game.

This was the best breakdown I've read here in a long while. Everything is business and nobody knows this better than Mariah. It's why she returned to Sony, because LA Reid was in charge (a known spender). Look into Kenn and Nancy Berry. They ran EMI Virgin records when Mariah was signed. They signed her to that mega contract. They were also known to spend huge on marketing their acts (see Rolling Stones, Janet and Spice Girls who they signed). Mariah knew this that's why she went with them over other suitors. They both lost there big time jobs a month after Glitter was released. Mariah's whole career she needed two things. The right guidance and the right promotional budget. With those two things she is unstoppable and quite supernatural in her accomplishments. I don't know much about Epics head Sylvia Rhone but if Caution was any indication, Mariah is in big trouble.

Re: Drake and Ariana (97,202) (97,210)
by T from USA

I don't agree that Mariah wouldn't jump in with a huge artist to have a big hit. Mariah is a hitmaker and she loves being on top of the charts. This is the same woman who teamed up with Boyz II Men and 98 Degrees. For two of her #1's. And also Bieber and Ari on Christmas songs. I'm not sure if it's her or Drake not wanting to take the plunge. In 2015 TLC were performing at some big profile event and Drake was supposed to join them then at the last minute dropped out because he didn't think it would be a good look to associate with a legacy act.

It's never going to happen. She almost had Notorious BIG on Honey Remix too. Sometimes these things just slip through cracks and we are left with what if. If he collaborated with Ariana then Mariah will want to find a fresh new rapper to hit up as she will try and avoid comparisons at all costs. Her Drake collaboration came and went with GTFO. That was the one.

Re: AIWFCIY is #1 on Billboard Hot 100, Oh Santa! #76 (96,943) (96,945)
by T from USA

Very low streaming and no airplay. Unfortunately sales used to be king but these days they don't account for much. In Mariah's case they help her a bit because her audience tends to be older so streaming is harder for her.

Yes. In twenty five years Oh Santa! will hit #1 and give Mariah her 20th. She will be seventy five years old at that time.
