Re: Vegas has made Mariah a better performer (65,747) (65,754)

The only lines that Mariah lipped in the My All performance is the "I'd give my all to have", other than that, nothing is lipped. The E5 there is pretty chesty, raspy and tight but we're getting to something. Are you kidding when you say you don't believe that she still did live full voice belts? Because it's actually pretty easy to distinguish the pre-record and the live vocals, they have different qualities. Mariah so far is able to get that heavenly resonance up to D5 and support up to Eb5 live. But most of the notes above Eb5/E5 are lipped, like the one in IDWC.

There's a big difference between the image Mariah projects now and what she projected during the Butterfly era, Rainbow era and TEOM era. Butterfly era, you could tell that she's truly emancipated, she's effortlessly sexy and is still so sweet and down-to-earth. Sultry. Rainbow era was pretty much the same, yet Mariah was really playful that era. TEOM era Mariah had confidence in spades, like she was on top of her game. This era? Those ass pics and all the awkward pics all scream desperation to stay "lit" like the younger generation of artists. She doesn't exude sexiness, she exudes this aura of "look at me, look at me". Beyonce wears those kinds of leotards too but compare her Instagram page to Mariah's. Beyonce's Instagram is exactly what Mariah's Instagram should channel. Classy and sexy yet elegant.

I have a lot of songs that really grew on me over time, especially songs from Charmbracelet. Recently I listened to Charmbracelet and found myself get addicted to You Got Me (which I really disliked before) as well as Boy (I Need You). Now CB is probably one of my fave Mariah albums.

There's definitely something wrong. During the SSFT she looked absolutely joyous and she's confident. In this leg of the Vegas residency her voice is still as strong but there's something in the way she presents herself, like there's something going on. Especially with the crying clips, it makes me worry about her.

Re: The voice dilemma (65,607) (65,611)

Actually she does lower keys of songs. I'll Be There is lowered by one semitone, Emotions is lowered by 3 semitones, Vision Of Love by 2 semitones, My All by one semitone, LTT by one semitone, IDWC by one semitone, Hero by one semitone, Fly Like A Bird by one semitone. So your argument that she refuses to lower the key of the song is invalid. She's been lowering keys of some of her songs since Emotions came out. And uh, struggling to produce notes an octave lower than studio vocals? She doesn't struggle until D5/Eb5, belt wise and the highest note she belted recently in studio is an A5. That's not even an octave, that's just 3 notes away. Head voice? Recent vocals from SSFT show that her head voice still retains much ease up to A5 while her most recent highest studio note in head voice is from Infinity at C#6. Hell, she actually hit the long C#6 head on (albeit it being in the whistle register) in Kelly and Michael and the quality is just as good as the studio version.

That's actually possible. I wonder if Mariah really realizes how beautiful she is, especially when she is singing. When she is singing live, there is always a certain charm and lovable quality to her that is so captivating.

Mariah's vocal state is really good in this era, she even belted live F5s. Live F5s (all caps). We just need her to lighten up her voice so that it would be easier for her to access the upper belts and voila, third vocal prime.

Patti is way too powerful. Even now she still retains that humongous volume (she just doesn't use it as much as she used to). Jennifer Hudson would probably be good, but she uses her upper belts so much it takes focus away from the song itself. I think Beyoncé will be great, she is very versatile (Lemonade really showcases how versatile she can be) and Mariah would sound really good with her.

She needs good live televised performances to convince people that she still can sing. Unplugged performances with just one instrument would be great.

She was the most effortless in 1993-1996, if we talk about technique. In the debut era, sometimes Mariah got a little too chesty in the upper belts, hence the occasional rasp we hear back then.

It's even one of the hardest song to sing, ever. Lol. Tbh only Mariah could breathe life to Emotions, I think I've said it before in one of my posts. Other technically gifted singers maybe could hit the notes, but they just sound like shouting (i.e. Ariana Grande). Mariah makes Emotions the song it is and nobody else could touch her version. It's like how Whitney made I Will Always Love You the song it is and nobody could touch her version. Those are testaments to how ridiculously talented both singers are.

When is she going to realize how gorgeous she sounds singing with just a guitar or piano? Mimi needs to record simpler acoustic songs with minimal layers. Her voice sounds so warm and earthy right now, I think a guitar will complement her voice amazingly.

Oh yes. Faded was the first song that sticks in my head from MIAM. It's a beautiful song, I love the pretty layers and the vocals there are so nuanced. But the moment that first whistle note came out, it was a vocal explosion. Amazing.

I'd say the next no. 1 would be Justin's Cold Water. It's no. 3 on iTunes, and just two weeks in, it's already at no. 13 on Radio Songs. We all know how Beliebers support Justin and once the song reaches the top 10 of Radio Songs, it will shoot up to no. 1.

I can't have enough posts for how Mariah's unrelatability will hinder her from going back into the top 40 or selling respectable numbers of albums. In this age, the talent you have is second to how relatable you are. Selena Gomez can't sing but she has fans that send her songs into the top 10 because she is likable (at least until she tweeted that whole "hashtags don't save lives" thing). Same thing for Taylor Swift (until she got exposed). Adele is insanely relatable and likable and she sold 100 millions of records worldwide only on the strength on 3 albums (not to say that she is talentless; she is a great singer and is a good songwriter). Mariah needs to realize this.

Re: Mariah's World update (64,942) (64,954)

Mariah and her team are definitely making a good choice airing MW in December. In December, I think I can make out what will Team MC do. If they're making good choices, they would do either: 1, Push the hell out of AIWFCIY so that it at least cracks the top 10, with all the hype surrounding MW and the Christmas sales Mariah earns in December (it needs stronger airplay tho, to ensure that it reenters the top 20 Mariah should aid the song with radio deals like what she did with #Beautiful) or 2, release a new single to coincide with MW, as its sales would be increased with the December Mariah Domination going on and the MW show. It would probably impact the Hot 100 at least better than Infinity due to these reasons, ensuring that Mariah at least gets another top 40.

It's somehow expected of Stella as she is of reality TV. Publicity stunts is probably the only way Stella knows of to get hype up, and it's not helping considering Mariah is one of the biggest selling artists of all time. Stella probably tells Mariah that this is how younger artists do things and Mariah would be somehow trying to prove that she is still in the younger crowds, thus all these unclassy, cheap tactics.

Re: Lana Del Rey and Mariah (64,838) (64,872)

I think that's why it would be magical. It's really really unexpected, just like back then with Mariah and ODB. Lana's darker sound would bring more depth and drama to Mariah's hip pop sound, while Mariah's sound will bring more radio-friendly qualities to Lana's cinematic sound. I've also been listening to Melanie Martinez and found out that she wrote and produced with Kinetics & One Love (and the results were captivating imo, very edgy and fresh). I think their newer, more minimal hip hop beats would give a refreshing update to Mariah's signature sound.

Idk, but all of these ratchetness seem so... staged. It all feels like an act. I have a feeling this is something both Stella and Mariah planned up as publicity stunts for Mariah's World. Whatever all these are, they all need to stop pronto. Partying and drinking won't do any good to her body, it won't do any good to her voice, won't do any good to her kids, nor her career or her image, or her state of mind. It sure as hell won't give her any form of success. I'm so frustrated at Mariah for all these unnecessary stunts. Girl, sober up.

Ugh, her voice is sounding dry again. Far from the amazingness that was SSFT and Vegas. I hope she doesn't slack off in her vocal lessons, I wouldn't want her rough vocals to come back. It would be better if she lays off the splashes for a while remembering how sensitive her voice is.
