Re: Rarities tracklisting - real? (95,278) (95,281) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Toddlicious, I agree. I want Everything Fades Away on Spotify. It is one of the best things she has ever done. Music Box, much like the life of every non-American Mariah Carey fan, is not complete without it.

Jereministroke (95,280) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Sleeping sound in your beds as you may have been, comforted in hope that Jereministroke, in what was his last attempt to have the whoopee cushion that was permanently lodged in his throat removed to a Mariah Carey song, had finally succeeded in having it heimlich-manoeuvred out by the seemingly hung-like-a-horse gimp constantly humping him balls-deep in a loose 3/4 time, listen to this and realise there is, in fact, no sleeping soundly, the nightmare is back and sleep is for the dead.

And therefore lucky.

Claiming new and unsuspecting innocent victims in his, her or its quest to permanently paralyse the bones of the inner ear of every human being on Earth -  much like the paralysis of the left arm and left side of the face that can so vividly be imagined occurring to Jereministroke on the sustained low notes he, she or it attempts to hold whilst not coughing out an anal prolapse - the nightmare is certainly real.

Or could it be after all that this is the original recording Mariah made of Save The Day before her vocals were engineered and will be featured on The Rarities Vol. II alongside 13 other songs everybody has actually already heard anyway plus the All In Your Mind demo included so Bill doesn't have a fit and set fire to his printed volumes of handwritten notes of all the barcodes ever printed on Mariah Carey cassettes between 1992 and 1998?

Either way: FFS.

Dear Delulons (95,236) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
The Voice
It is unbelievably malicious and false to claim Mariah's vocal issues had anything to do with Tommy Mottola. There is no evidence for it. In fact, it is likely he prevented her from behaviours that would have advanced the damage earlier. Mariah's voice was crapping out as early as the Music Box Tour. We even now know why Joy To The World was the only song we have erstwhile seen from the Church of St John the Divine - the rest of the vocals are a struggle. We know, albeit in hindsight, Mariah was pushing her voice too far. And then she actively did things which resulted in permanent damage.

The Drink and Drugs
It is not, as they say, "post hoc ergo propter hoc". Mariah's alcoholism etc may have been recognisable after her first divorce, but it in no way means it was "after it therefore because of it". She began to hang out with people she had previously been prevented from hanging out with. Her voice was the winning lottery ticket and she screwed it up to be popular with the cool kids. When artists like Celine Dion would go weeks on vocal rest, Mariah was... well, we know what Mariah was doing.

The Behaviour and the Control
Mariah's behaviour certainly changed after her divorce. She became childish, slutty and started to hang around more with idiots, smoking and drinking. Those were her decisions. She did that. And whilst addicts must not be blamed or shamed, neither should the truths of their addictions be denied nor blame placed on anyone else. That is hugely important. These behaviours massively detracted from her achievements and damaged her reputation. Though I accept her relationship with Tommy was not a healthy one (even by his own admission), knowing what behaviours she would later display I can't help but wonder if it was not these behaviours which Tommy and the label were trying to prevent, knowing the damage they would do to her and the career they had invested a massive amount in.

The Breakdown
Mariah had a breakdown because she realised that she couldn't have success on her own. The label took their support away. Indeed, it even started to move against her. Funny, you criticise and slander people, they don't sit down and take it. And Glitter was a twreible vanity project. Mariah would have been told not to do this but did it anyway. If she doesn't know she is a terrible actress she is either not listening to people, lying to herself, or both.

The Music
Mariah's "controlled" career produced the music that almost everyone on this board considers the best of her career (1991 to 1996). When she was "free" the music and lyrics were not as good. Mariah being steered by her label to create brilliant music was not a bad thing to me. Now she produces songs which are actually bad, some terrible: STD, WYM, Infinnidee. Lyrics have become shallow if not just plain pathetic. The Emancipation of Mimi itself was reportedly born of Medina and strong label control.

I love Mariah's music and voice and have followed her entire career since I was young but I recognise truths where I see them. I am no longer the naive teenager who would create or support lies to maintain the narrative of perfection or, worse still, victimhood. Every time something negative about Mariah is presented the delulons run for the nearest person to blame instead of facing the truth.

Mariah's voice continues to rapidly degrade. This isn't natural. Something is causing it and we know what it is. Her voice is in an extremely bad way and it is time to face the truth. As beyond sad as it is, it may be time to wind things down quite a bit. Mariah chose drink and drugs over her voice and she has had to live with that, and, now, face up to the consequences of those actions as the smoke and mirrors employed for so many years no longer work and people start to call it out.

Her voice is no longer anywhere near as pleasant to listen to and the music she makes not very good. Yet most of us are still here out of a life long allegiance and love for her. At least some of us can accept truths whilst the delulons keep making shit up like "she sounded good on the Caution World Tour". If that is what "good" now is, the bar has fallen to the floor.

P.S. I can almost hear the delulons tapping away madly, already enraged at my "hate", screaming into the air wishes that I would disappear. But I say this to you: I admit and accept truths and am still here, 27 years later. To the teenagers I say this: you will soon grow up and hopefully wisen up. To the delulons who have grown up but still live in Fantasy land: it is you people that need a rethink. Blind support is not healthy. Once you accept truth, life is actually a lot less stressful. It does not need to detract from the brilliance of most of her music, the sheer emotion of most of her vocals, the genius of most of her lyrics, the grave importance of her existence in your life.

The truth, as they say, shall set you free.

Re: What I really want (95,100) (95,116) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
I agree with your sentiments. Putting B-sides, international (non-US) bonus tracks and "fan favourites" will essentially clog up what could be the greatest gift of an album.

However, I would love Everything Fades Away (and some others to be available on streaming services). And maybe it might make the American fans finally like it.

Re: First "Vision of Love" video (95,113) (95,115) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
I'd like to see the original Anytime You Need A Friend video. For Mariah to mock it whilst filming it, it has to be worth a watch just for the shits and giggles. I'd prefer to see that than Underneath The Stars which I think will mostly just be glamour shots.

Re: STD is epic (95,091) (95,107) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Irrespective of what Mariah is trying to communicate (and, most assuredly, your crayon doodle of an idea is not it), the song is pretty awful.

The chorus is In The Mix Part II. And Part I was nauseating enough. This one reminds me of the Mixedish cast and their obnoxious dancing all over again. Seriously, who is this song aimed at? Kids doing Tiktoks?

The Fugees sample is absolutely bizarre. It doesn't go with the rest of the song. They seem to have tacked it on to give an otherwise infantile, forgettable song a hook. Why not ask Lauryn Hill to rap? I mean, she's no JD, obvs, but I hear she's pretty good at it.

Yet, there is a flash of brilliance: Mariah's light and airy head voice floating over the creeping, atmospheric plonky-piano melody and strings in the second verse. That right there is a great concept for a whole song were it to steadily build in intensity throughout the track. But the moment is lost in the cacophony of everything else that is going on.

Re: He should be banned (95,080) (95,106) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Eddie Eddie Eddie (thank Todd for reminding me of AbFab again), please don't announce that I am not into orgies. With you and Randy now both in New York City I may be willing to make some serious lifestyle choices.

Posting criticism of me could be the MCA chapter in "How To Win Friends & Influence People". But mostly people post against me because they don't like the truth. And on the rare occasion that they can tolerate it, they prefer it dressed up with bells on. Which I am a lot better at than I used to be, thank you very much.

Posting that there is something wrong with my mental health in such a serious, mob-mentality way is pretty dark but I am quite confident that there is not so I pay it no mind.

Besides on any given day I am certain Bobby-A lives where the buses don't go and Lafa-ble is using a VPN up there on the mothership.

Re: Andrew (95,037) (95,102) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
If you think this is me being harsh, you really are quite new. I took a quick look at the (very) few messages you have posted, which are either you telling Eric what not to post in the news section, or negative in spirit, or both. All approximately 7 of them.

I calculate that in 7 years I have written posts covering about 70 pages - which is about 3% of the entire MCA messageboard. So I sort of feel like one of the regulars at the bar who glances over to see someone nobody's seen before throwing a strop at the bartender. I may get irritated by the other patrons sometimes, I may not like the new music on the jukebox, and, hell, I may even have a fight with the owner now and again. But I love the concept and service, the company of those I banter with and the company of those I bicker with, enough to keep coming back and supporting the place, even, and especially, when it's quiet.

And I sure as shit am not going to listen to or tolerate some jumped up little twat who doesn't care enough to grace the pub with his presence all that often acting like he owns the place when he does.

Keep readin'.

Re: Mariah on GMA (95,014) (95,015) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
So you admit, it is not live and the vocals are engineered? On "prayed through the nights" her mouth doesn't move to the words correctly, she barely inhales through difficult parts whereas we know she has trouble with breathing, she transitions to head and whistle notes without any of the usual effort, she employs the shaking of the head and hand on high notes when she is not actually singing, and so on. This is not live at all and the vocals are engineered.

Re: Mariah on GMA (95,004) (95,012) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Are you drunk? Top 5 performances ever? Absolutely insane. Parts of it are clearly lipped/dubbed and it's very nasal. I know it's exciting to have this album come out but let's call a spade a spade.

And only features vocals by Lauryn Hill? Mariah Carey doesn't sing on a Mariah Carey song?

You sound like you are lying. Please provide evidentiary support. Also, answer this: should people who are actively lying be banned?

Re: The Rarities (94,989) (94,992) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
rar·i·ty /ˈrerədē/
noun
the state or quality of being rare.
Similar:
uncommonness
singularity
uniqueness
scarcity
scarceness
sparseness

So, as I stated, it's a quality. Unreleased tracks are not individually uncommon or, perhaps, not in abundance. This definition does not, or prima facie, seem to apply.

noun
a rare thing, especially one having particular value.
plural noun: rarities
Similar: collector's item

Collectors items? They're not that either.

The title is stupid. It has reached the point where Mariah has too many questionable titles.

I like "Chrysalis" a lot. But Jade just suggested "The Vault" and I think that wins hands down.

Tokyo Dome being a "rarity"? We are playing fast and loose with facts and the English language, here.

GMA performance (94,984) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Ugh. Some truth bombs:

1. Badly lipped
2. Overly engineered
3. Nasal/scratched vocals
4. Shoulder shrugging
5. Terrible hair
6. Overweight
7. Weird positioning for the "good side"

This was tragic.

Save The Day (94,982) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Wooooooo another Jermaine Dupri collaboration. Need more of them in our lives like we need more CoViD-19 in our lives.

The Rarities (94,972) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
The title is stupid. It doesn't even seem to make any sense. A "rarity" seems to be a quality, like, "to see Mariah live is a rarity" or "having pizza in the week is a rarity". To say that "the Tokyo Dome concert is a rarity" is, firstly, not true, and secondly, a strange sentence. An unreleased song is a rarity? Nope. I don't think it is.

Mariah used to be so good at naming things. Every release title since The Emancipation of Mimi has been bizarre (save for maybe Caution) - and you can add the memoir title to that list.
