Agree, it is dreadful.

Re: Favourite ending (99,809) (99,824) by Bill from the UK
Haha, no there is some truth to what you say, albeit not necessarily in Europe. In Japan the album releases for most artists always had a bonus track. This was because, due to their economy, it was cheaper to import a CD from the US/elsewhere than it was to buy locally, so bonus tracks were added to encourage local purchases. In Europe, it was expensive to import from the US. I curse that I had to build my collection in the 90s as the US single imports were a lot of money. I remember the 2 track Dreamlover CD was almost £10. Back then, that was a lot of money for two tracks. But luckily the UK in particular was blessed with gorgeous picture discs, exclusive remixes, unique picture sleeves etc. We were treated very well indeed.

I need to see this Mariah book Bobby.

Re: Favourite ending (99,807) (99,808) by Bill from the UK
Lol, but by that logic, wouldn't you all have to buy the imported albums and singles from Europe so you could have all her remixes and bonus tracks?

Re: Favourite ending (99,799) (99,805) by Bill from the UK
DYKWYGT (TFM) was such an elegant end to the #1's album. It's odd how Sony International treated Europe and the other regions better than her home turf. Even the single releases over here had more exclusives and unique mixes that didn't appear in the US. And we had the better end to Music Box.

Re: Favourite ending (99,790) (99,798) by Bill from the UK
It's strange because I've done the opposite this end. I try to listen to Music Box without EFA and ending it with All I've Ever Wanted, and it just feels so incomplete. AIEW is a beautiful song in many ways, but it ends the album on nothing more special than Just to Hold You Once Again. When Rainbow came out Mariah said it was her first album that ended on a happy note. I always wondered if she actually considered EFA to be the closing track for Music Box for that purpose. I understand what you mean about it not fitting with the rest of the album, but that's what makes it stand out so much and make such a statement.

Re: Favourite ending (99,786) (99,789) by Bill from the UK
Such a great ending, you're right. It's such a masterstroke to end Music Box with such a poignant closure. It's so weird/unfair that the US fans never experienced Music Box the same way the rest of the world did, as it adds a whole nother layer to the album, and is probably her best closing track.

So glad you are okay Dennis.

Re: Favourite ending (99,777) (99,779) by Bill from the UK
With ABMB, do you mean the wall of sound "you and I" fade out, or the live version that ends with the opening guitar strum? Personally both are superb.

Re: Favourite ending (99,772) (99,775) by Bill from the UK
Yes, Heartbreaker's acapella run down at the end is superb when you hear all the harmonising parts, really shows the "wall of sound" thing Mariah does so well. And yes, when I first listened to WBT for the first time I was nodding my head along nicely to it thinking it was different, a bit Breakdown-esque with the rapid fire delivery of the lines, and then the key change made me sit up and do exactly as you say haha.

Re: Favourite ending (99,769) (99,774) by Bill from the UK
I just watched this one again Bobby A as it's been a while, you're right, great delivery and the gentle end she brings the song to is beautiful. I Still Believe is so underrated.

Re: Favourite ending (99,768) (99,771) by Bill from the UK
The original Fantasy is just pure ear candy, I love it. I too miss the Price Sisters and Melonie. What an era, and what a collective sound they all made. Honestly I sometimes think their contribution to Merry Christmas is massively overlooked. Without them it wouldn't sound half as amazing as it does.

Re: Favourite ending (99,767) (99,770) by Bill from the UK
Yes, this was one of the best performances of My All she ever did, and she looked breath taking as well. I agree you could feel the hurt in her voice, and you understand why now having read the memoir and realising it was about DJ.

Favourite ending (99,766) by Bill from the UK
So stepping away from the racism and the woke conversations and bringing it back to Mariah, do any of y'all have a favourite ending of Mariah's?

Most of her lead singles have great endings, especially Emotions when the music and background singers all stop on the same note and she's left finishing her run acapella, and down to such a low note, considering the stratospheric heights she reached moments earlier.

I also love the "do do do" finish of Firecracker Loverboy.

Re: Tommy the racist (99,756) (99,758) by Bill from the UK
No, I wouldn't say he was racist at all. I mean he married her knowing she was mixed. I see it more that he was a good businessman who knew what played to the biggest demographics and was protecting his investment. Music Box sold twice or three times as many copies as Butterfly, and he wanted for bang for his buck. If you pardon the pun.

Re: Sweetheart (99,723) (99,726) by Bill from the UK
I knew at the time it was a remake because my suspicious mind always enquires whenever I see that MC doesn't have a writing credit. Turns out my uncle knew and had the original version on 7" and let me have it. I do agree, for once, the original is better than Mariah's version. The original has a lot more bounce and sway to it, Mariah's version is very sluggish to my ear. I much prefer the No Rap version Matty, as JD has got to be the most annoying rapper on the planet. This is why I never listen to E=MC2 because he doesn't shut up throughout the whole record. I have expect the delicate intro of I Wish You Well to have a "y'all know who dis is" bleated over the top. (Caps) Shut Up (end caps).

As always Nikki, provide your sources as this is all speculation/fabricated.

Re: One offs compilation album? (99,688) (99,689) by Bill from the UK
The thing was Triumphant was that the arrangement was all wrong. It's a great track, I love the driving beat and the optimistic message, but Mariah didn't appear until the third verse, and it was almost like she was a featured artist on a track she supposedly headlined. I remember when it debuted everyone was waiting around for her to appear on stage, it was just bizarre. I think this is why a lot of fans have a preference for the Vintage Throwback remix which puts Mariah front and centre, where she belongs.

Re: I wonder (99,669) (99,671) by Bill from the UK
What do you think MC16 is going to be like, sonically? Are you thinking an updated Caution, slick R&B with in producers? Or do you think she'll surprise us with either a gospel or jazz album, or will the next release be The Butterfly Lounge? Reworkings of her classic in the style of WBT Valentine's?

Don't go Bobby A because of one nasty individual. We all love you.

It was originally slated as the 4th single from Emotions but was shelved when I'll Be There took off.

It's more that I didn't think such a reaction was really that warranted. Let's just take a step back.

You're getting a bit much PW. I get what you're saying but people are allowed to express an opinion or concern about somebody if they want to. If you don't like the way they've projected their thoughts, then so be it. You've not been appointed by anyone here, as far as I know, to determine what's acceptable and what isn't on this message board.

So anyway I'm playing the Butterfly remix EP. Love the bossa nova, even though it isn't one.

Re: Mariah cover songs (99,637) (99,642) by Bill from the UK
Open Arms was released in the UK and got to Number 4. The Wind is technically a remake, but the original was an instrumental, Mariah added lyrics.
