About Matty from Vancouver Canada: I love music of all kinds, with R&B and pop toping my list of favourite genres. I've been a Mariah fan since Charmbraclet, there was something about that album that connects on a deep level. Other favourite albums are Glitter, Daydream, The Emancipation of Mimi, and Me. I Am Mariah.

My Favourite Mariah Songs are: The Art of Letting Go, Fantasy & Shake It Off.

My Least Favourite album is Music Box.

My most start-to-finish listened album (don't-skip-a-track albums): Emotions, Butterfly, The Emancipation of Mimi and Me. I Am Mariah: The Elusive Chanteuse.

Re: New album ideas (80,468) (80,469) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Mariah always says "Why do people say I've had a comeback, I didn't go anywhere" (I'm paraphrasing). So I don't think she'd do "Back" or "Return" type theme in her title. I love the idea of going back to her roots tho. My fave suggestions so far are:
Long Island Girl
Mirage
Or What about:
Stand.
Art, Power, Love.
Fact & Fiction.
I like the idea of there being a period in the title ah-la Jojo "Mad Love.". It transforms the title into at statement, using subtle punctuation.

Re: Will we ever see a new album? (80,404) (80,407) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
"by this_is_qhm", I could not disagree with you more about this following statment: "She's not like Janet or Madonna who marry shockingly creative and iconic visuals with innovative, boundary-pushing sounds and themes. But you know what? It's okay. Mariah's the type of artist who never has to do something groundbreaking to be successful. She's not that type of artist by nature/heart."
Mariah's personal signature sound has inspired literally two generations of singers, from Christina to Ariana, and 80% of female contestants who have auditioned for American Idol onward around the world. Does she have crazy visuals? No. Her sound alone, without all the other aspects that are distracting from the music, have shifted the musical landscape. She has changed the sound of music and the expectation of pop-vocal performance globally. Madonna has never created a revolutionary sound or musical style (Grace Kelly, Cyndi Lauper, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, etc etc, right up to Timberland, and Diplo EDM). Musically she's followed every trend imaginable. However, Madonna did do the visuals, she did do the protest, she did stand up for LGBTQ and create a movement. To compare Mariah's musical shockwaves to Madonna's is apples and oranges (or musical artistry to visual protest artists), and honestly doesn't make sense. However, you did hit the nail on the head with this statement: "Dreamlover (sampling trend) Fantasy (hip-hop + R&B/pop to mainstream trend) and Glitter (80's throwback trend)." To say "aside" after that statement. Person, come on, "aside"? Very few singers have defined two decades of music, with three distinct trends (I would argue more trends). Music in 2018 would not be what it is without samples, featured rappers, or intentional throwback sounds.
Has Mariah followed treads? Yes. Is she a revolutionary musical/vocalist trend setter? F*** yes. I would encourage you to listen to more music that came before Mariah's time. Whitney, Minnie Riperton or Diana Ross didn't even shift the game the way Mimi has.

Merch (80,401) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I'm not really understanding what all the hate is about regarding the Mariah merchandise. Mariah's team capitalizing on the meme-queen Mariah has become, isn't distracting or taking away from Mariah making music. It's not as if she's the one designing the shirts, pressing the shirts, or updating her online merch store. She probably sees a proof what the merch will look like and gives it the thumbs up or down, and that's her involvement. Mariah's not releasing new music right now, because she's simply not releasing new music. Mariah has always been known for her corky words and expression since the 1990's. If Mariah's team didn't sell this merch, many others would be designing and selling similar "unofficial" stuff (as they already are). Why not let Mariah get a piece of the pie she helped bake, by letting her sell "official" versions of the merch? Case in point, if Mariah had sold her Pride Collection Rainbow merch when Rainbow came out, it would have been fiyah. But she missed that boat in 1999. At least now, within days of NYE the "Hot Tea" merch was ready to sell, and is relevant. She's not missing the boat this time, and they are striking while the iron is hot. Hasn't that been a grip of most Lambs for the past few years, she and Team-MC are always just a few steps behind? Now her team is getting ahead of the game. Don't buy it if you think it's tacky, because many more people are (including people that aren't Lambs), but don't think it's taking away from her ability to make new music.

Re: New Mariah (80,325) (80,329) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
It's like we've woken up from a tacky dream. I love all the moves Mariah is making. I love that she's being vocal about #TimesUp/#Metoo as well (when she usually stays apolitical, I think/hope she's positioning herself to blow the roof off abuse in the music industry). I also have to say, I'm surprised Tanaka is still in the picture with all these directional changes happening in Mimi's world. I thought Stella was the mastermind behind their relationship and that he was a part of the problem. Looks like I read it wrong.

Golden Globes, Sharon Stone and Mimi (80,304) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Mariah looks stunning at the Golden Globes. Wow, here hair has be floored, gorgeous. The interview with Al Roker and Sharon Stone was fantastically adorable. I could watch a full hour of Sharon and Mariah bantering. Who knew they were neighbours? So glad to see Mimi be her easy, chill, cool self again. She was just rolling with it, not self conscious and humble.

Re: Industry backing (80,297) (80,299) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Ya, since the "Daydream" fiasco, MC and the Grammy's have always been on the outs. I think she absolutely has the right to her opinion and statements in that videoclip. It was outrageous that she didn't win anything for "Daydream", let alone her masterpiece "Butterfly". I've always found it strange that her intro's always start with "5 time Grammy winner...". For her caliber of artist, and her longevity in the game, 5 is nothing to write home about, tbh. The Grammy's has never appreciated what Mariah has done for the music game.

Industry backing (80,257) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
In my eyes, the most exciting thing for Mariah in 2018 is that the entertainment and media industries finally have her back again. Between the Golden Globe nomination, now being on the short list for the Oscar noms, to the praise and applause she's been getting all over the place from major news outlets to talk shows for her NYE perforce in Time Square. It's been a long time since she's had full blow industry push, and it's great to see.

Hero? (80,128) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I'm on the "Hero" train (as in, why? other then it being one of her best know tracks, it's not a party, celebrate vibe). If she's only doing two songs, she should make them, "It's Like That" and "Auld Lang Syne". Or, even better "Auld Lang Syne" and her surprise brand new single that's going to shatter the charts of 2018.

What are Mariah's positions on your countries iTunes Christmas chart? Canada:
1. AIWFCIY (there are 4 versions on the 200 chart)
29. Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
65. Santa Clause is Comin' to Town
80. Oh Holy Night
171. Oh Santa
(4 version of AIWFCIY are: MC, Fifth Harmony, Michael Buble and the cast of Glee)

Re: 3rd Christmas album (79,938) (79,943) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
You know what, you're kinda right. Both MC and MC2 are absolute perfection, and it would be smart to cap the "Queen of Christmas" association. I also have no doubt that MC2 will get more and more of the global recognition is deserves as the years pass. Look at the trajectory of Merry Christmas's success. Christmas albums need time for people to create memories and associations surrounding the album before they become legendary staples of the season. As an alternative, maybe instead she could release a christmas compilation album with the following tracks:
1. The Star
2. When Christmas Comes featuring John Legend
3. AIWFCIY featuring Justin Bieber
4. Where are you Christmas (with Mariah singing it proper)
5. Auld Lang Syne (acoustic version, as a nice counter point to the '90's dance version on MC2)
6. Lil' Snowman
7. AIWFCIY with Michael Buble (live 2013)
8. Oh Santa. All I want for Christmas Is Your Mashup
9. All I want for Christmas is You (dance remix)

Re: Top 10 Christmas albums ever (79,935) (79,942) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
this_is_qhm, totally agree with what you've said. I agree with you about Gwen's sound on the album, but the original material is weak (but again, no one creates original Christmas music like Mimi). That's why I was so impressed with Sia's new Christmas effort, which was all original tracks and she's created a cool modern christmas vibe. Also, no one can match Santa Baby like Kylie's version. That was like hand-in-glove perfection.

Re: Top 10 Christmas albums ever (79,920) (79,926) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Hmmm interesting list. Not sure these would be my picks. I mean I love me some Christina Aguilera, but her holiday album (which I do own), is so early 2000's production in the way it sounds I can't consider it "classic" or "timeless". I would agree with Elvis (I own), Jackson 5 (I own), however I'd put Buble #4 (honestly, it's an amazing Christmas album, and that's not just based on my Canadian pride lol). Then others I'd include are "Merry Christmas II You" (obviously), Dolly and Kenny's Once Upon a Christmas (shocked this didn't make the list); a She & Him Christmas (for that cozy throwback vibe), and hands down best new christmas album of 2017: Sia, Every Day is Christmas. Oh and Kelly Clarkson has a really amazing Christmas album too.

Article: Should have been bigger: Mariah Carey's "Oh Santa" (79,889) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Amen. I love "Oh Santa". But honestly I love all Mariah's original Christmas music (even Lil' Snowman, hahahaha). My only tiniest critique is that the whistle moment at the 2:42 point is a bit aggressive when it's playing/blasted on the radio or in the mall and shops. It's an amazingly strong and beautiful note; however almost over powering in certain environments.

Re: Beacon Theatre DVD (79,754) (79,756) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I would love the Beacon Christmas show on DVD. I would also love the Vegas show on DVD, I could relive the night I attended that concert for the rest of my love. MC needs more concert DVDs. I would really appreciate an updated #1's DVD to accompany #1 to Infinity.

Re: Charmbracelet at 15 (79,645) (79,647) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Butterfly, Charmbracelet and Memoirs are her most lyrically superior albums IMO. She has master lyrics on all three of these albums.

Re: "Charmbracelet" anniversary (79,642) (79,646) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Interesting re: Justin not wanting to be associated with Mariah at the time. Justin has been one shady b*tch towards a few of music's female legends. He throws Janet under the bus and blames her for nipplegate at the Superbowl (which we know changed the trajectory of her career forever). Despite Mariah reigning supreme for 10 solid years prior, he thinks after she has one bad year, he's too good for her, and of course we all know how he threw all of his and Britney's laundry on the public line, and blamed her for their break up. Tisk tisk JT, never underestimate women's power.

Re: "Charmbracelet" anniversary (79,621) (79,625) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Wow. Fifteen years since Charmbracelet. This is a very special album to me too, Billy. Charmbracelet was when I truly became a Lamb. I was so impressed with how she recovered from her breakdown after the press had completely turned on her, seeing tabloid headlines everywhere like "Mariah's meltdown", "Batty Mariah looses her mind", "No more rainbows in Mariah's sky" etc. etc. She came back so confident exploring a new sound with her music. She didn't do what people expected musically, and I found that liberating and empowering. I agree with you, this is when Mariah developed her cult following, and solidified her legion of true Lambs. My favourite tracks are: You Got Me, I Only Wanted, Clown, Subtle Invitation and Bringing on The Heartbreak (her best remake of a song IMO). Has anyone ever heard the version of "Yours" she recorded with Justin Timberlake? I've always heard rumours of this version, but have never got to hear it.

Re: World AIDS Day setlist? (79,604) (79,606) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Thank you. So impressed by this performance. She was so light and fun, and when she pulled up that lamb on stage and signed her arm, we can all say Mariah, leader of the lambs, is nack in beautiful form. "It's like that", into "Don't forget about us", to "We belong together" and finally, Hero. Great choices. Fantastic set.

World AIDS Day setlist? (79,600) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Damn, Mimi, you turned it out at the World AIDS Day concert. Glad she's well again, and can now commence her Christmas tour. What did Mariah sing at the World AIDS Day concert, does anyone know? Where can I watch, anyone have a link?

They opened her intro with "You do know here" lol. The rest were Celine, Cher, Dolly and Tina Turner. Check out their costume looks here. Happy Halloween MCArchives.

Edward. How could I forget Right to Dream. I love that track. Wow. Wow. Wow. I've never heard "Help Me Make It Through The Night". That song is fantastic. If this didn't make the Tennessee soundtrack it sure as help should have been on MIAM arranged to play right after #Beautiful. I love the use of her voice, the vibe, the simplicity, the beauty. Thank you for introducing me to this stunning track.
