As far as I know it doesn't sample Babydoll, but Mariah did sample My Boo in her H.A.T.E.U remix.

Hero. It's really not a bad song but it's a bit too cheesy. Fly Like A Bird or Through The Rain felt more passionate.

Re: Media's response to WWHL (62,418) (62,426)

I think that the fact "I don't know her" blew up is because the sexism in our society. Many believes that only few women are able to be on top. Therefore, everytime a new girl is rising to the top, the media will make out a feud between the newcomer and the established woman. For example, when Mariah first came out, there were a lot of feuds rumored between Whitney (the established one) and Mariah (the newcomer). The same thing came up with Madonna and Lady Gaga. JLo was a newcomer when Mariah said the quote. Mariah was already an established artist. The same happened with Mariah and Ariana. If Mariah encounters questions about JLo and others, she really should shut down the rumors and really give clarifying answers instead of answering with something that can potentially be portrayed as shady in the media.

Re: Reality show will be a disaster? (62,386) (62,391)

You see, that's not the right direction for Mariah to go to. The public really doesn't know (and doesn't care) if her diva antics are just jokes. If Mariah's World is full of catchphrases and shade, Mariah's going to be a meme in public's eyes, not the legend she is (and she more than deserves to be seen as a legend). Mariah's World could be a cult hit, but is that really beneficial for Mariah if it goes big because of Mariah's diva antics, shade and meaningless punchlines? That would be good for Mariah only in a very brief time period, but it would probably seal the coffin for any hope that the public would adore Mariah again. I really don't put emphasis on the "hit" factor of the docu-series, but rather that the show would help Mariah's image to repair itself and get her back into the public's love. And having a show full of shady lines surely ain't going to do that.

True. I've read somewhere that if a certain area gains fat the first before the others, then it would be the last to lose the fat. I noticed that in Mariah's heavier years, her face seem to be one of the first areas to gain fat. She would need to continue to lose some more fat for her face to slim down. Also, ageing and stress, as well as drinking can cause facial ligaments to weaken, thus the fat will relocate themselves into places like the chin and cheeks. Mariah obviously has a quite stressful lifestyle and she does drink. Although she still looks like she could be in het late 20s to early 30s, there's no denying that she is ageing. So that's probably why her face has some trouble losing fat. Fat or no fat, she still looks damn gorgeous. .

Rude Boy is only remembered by few, aside from Rihanna's Navy. Many of her songs are like that. I'm not diminishing Rihanna's legacy, but don't act like most of her hits were remembered. Nobody remembered Disturbia. Nobody remembered Pon De Replay. Do you really think Mariah doesn't have any memorable songs aside from those you have mentioned? How about Vision Of Love? My All? Heck, Honey is still iconic. Heartbreaker is also iconic. Don't act like Emotions made no impact. You're the one diminishing Mariah's legacy. Again, are you sure you're not in the wrong message board?

Mimi L, we have to get AIWFCIY into the top 10 this year. It's almost an atrocity that one of Mariah's biggest song has never been into the top 10.

I love Beyonce and loves her music. I also like a few songs of Rihanna and have nothing against her. But most of Rihanna's #1's will not be remembered, aside from Umbrella, Love The Way You Lie, We Found Love and Take A Bow. I mean, how many of you remember SOS or Live Your Life? Both are number 1 hits and yet have already slipped off people's brains. You're calling everyone here bitter for defending Mariah and yet here you are spilling nothing but negativity for Mariah. Are you sure you're in the right message board?

Most would gasp for air singing Never Too Far, Lead The Way, Butterfly, Emotions (and this list goes on and on). This is actually a true testament of how amazing Mariah is as a vocalist.

I agree 100% with your post. Maybe that is the key to her to actually be more respected as a live performer (not that she isn't respected, but many have really doubted her live performances, even mocking her performances). We've already said this so many times but she really needs to adjust and accept that her voice isn't her 90s voice anymore. Hell, it isn't even her 2010 voice. She needs to tailor future songs to really suit her voice's current character, strengths and limitations. Mariah's voice really deserve to be studied as it is unlike other singers' voice, who generally mature and become more rich in quality as time passes but still retain most of their original character. With Mariah, you can separate each era of her career by only listening to her voice because each era's vocals have many subtle differences. Even in her prime her voice evolves with each era.

Re: Memoirs, Rainbow and MIAMTEC (62,080) (62,099)
by darrian liu from taiwan

Although she does experiment from time to time, there are still many genres that she hasn't touched but surely could spin gold out of them. EDM is actually one of those genres. Mariah has never experimented with EDM (Meteorite wasn't EDM, it was disco pop) and I'm sure she could make something good from it. She also hasn't recorded any full-blown jazz song as well although she's dipped into those territories live from time to time. I think it's time for Mariah to get back into the lab, mix genres together and create something she will be remembered for again, like what she did with the Fantasy Bad Boy Remix. I don't think Help Me Make It Through The Night and Right To Dream are country enough to be considered as Mariah's forays into country (they're great songs btw). The pop ballad side of them still shines more, although there are some country influences to them. They sound like Tori Kelly's acoustic ballads, which are of course pop soul ballads. I would consider Mariah having a country song if she does something like Beyoncé's Daddy Lessons, a song that is undeniably country, not just a pop ballad with country influences.

I agree that music should be the main focus here. However, I wouldn't discredit the power of fashion and makeup. Nowadays, it's an integral part of branding and marketing (you'll get really good press even if you're just strolling around with a banging outfit). Whatever helps Mariah repair her image, whether fashion, makeup and good interviews, I'm all for it.

Regarding Mariah's image (61,898)
by darrian liu from taiwan
| |
|
|
There's no doubt that the public nowadays has a better opinion on Mariah than let's say, the MIAM era. However, she's still a long way from being likeable. She needs to show that she's still grounded. Right now many thought of her as an airhead bimbo who can't really sing as good as she used too. While her voice is in a good shape right now and she is hitting notes she dodged for years, she's still not getting media attention for that. It's making all these improvements useless for her image repair especially when her voice, her biggest asset is getting less coverage than her booty or her boobs. Thank God that the snapchat video didn't blow up but her lap dance did. Of course, Mariah has every right to do those things but she should know that lap dancing a dancer with an injured leg would diminish her likeability among the public, especially with the ageists. She needs to do something that can shift the media attention back to her greatest asset, her music and her voice. Maybe holding a live stream and sing her songs acoustically with minimal arrangements.

I agree. I think Mariah has nothing left to lose nor proof, so I think she should have more courage to step out of her comfort zone and experiment with various genres. Mariah could do a simple acoustic country song and it would still really be interesting.

Including digital sales hardly affects Lemonade's impact. I think she could hit 1 million in the next 3-4 weeks. Lemonade didn't tank lol (unless debuting with 653,000 sales of equivalent album units is tanking). Also, all 12 songs charted in the Hot 100, with 8 songs in the top 40 and 4 songs in the top 20, and 1 song starting in the top 10 (Formation). Stop bashing Beyoncé. She has never said anything bad about Mariah so why bother bashing her?

It is true that Rihanna is less talented than Mariah. However, I don't think Rihanna would easily be forgotten. She already has a signature song "Umbrella" and her collaboration with Eminem "Love the Way You Lie" is quite memorable. We don't know if she would be forgotten in the future, but I think it's highly unlikely.

by darrian liu from taiwan

I agree. She needs to pay more attention to her image and public perception of her. Beyoncé is very meticulous about her image and gains major respect from the public (being hailed as Queen Bey). To actually be able to dominate the industry again, she needs to be in the public's good side. In 2014 she did get a coverage on her Fresh Air Fund but it got overshadowed by her wearing a ball gown on a subway. The public focused more on her diva antics, which they did not know that it is a joke. The fact that some of the lambs hailed her as the "queen of shade" also brought down public opinion about Mariah. Her shades are funny but the public thought of Mariah being catty and not classy because of them. She would do much better if she showed a more relatable side, like what Adele does (the public absolutely loves her). Self-deprecating, hilarious interviews would do wonders to her image. Some would say that she doesn't need to follow in the footsteps of a less experienced, newer artist but imo if it does good things to her career, why not?

She actually went for that note "just one more night with you". It's like the first time she attempted the "Lord knows" note after years of dodging the note. The note is kinda shaky but if she continues to hit the note in My All performances, it would become phenomenal (like what happened to the "Lord knows" note). Her confidence has been blowing through the roof and she's singing notes she usually dodged for years. Her second coming is arriving real, real soon.
