Studio singer? (82,933) by Randy from USA This is for die-hards and those who can remain objective. What do you guys think about MC being labeled a studio singer? We all at one point thought that MC was the best vocalist in the world. But the live performances really started getting bad about 7 years into her career. The other day I was looking through the Billboard book of number ones and Narada Michael Walden who produced I Don't Wanna Cry was talking about how many times MC re-recorded parts of that song until she thought it was perfect. I even read during Honey she gave Diddy hundreds of tracks to choose from but wouldn't let him in the studio while she recorded her vocals. So this got me to thinking. Did MC really shoot herself in the foot by recording things in pieces in the studio and putting it all together when it was perfect? When you add that to her insecurities it made sense that she would fall apart on stage. For a woman so vocally talented, why was it hard for her to show out on stage for the majority of her career? It seems I can pull three times as many amazing, awe inspiring performances from Jennifer Hudson, Whitney Houston, Patti Labelle than I could MC. But their tracks on the albums are not vocally as amazing and awe inspiring as a Never Too Far or a Vision of Love. So does this mean MC is a studio singer? And please don't attack me or start with the nuances MC does that others don't. Nuances is what has some people calling Brandy the vocal bible on Facebook and to me she's a little more than mediocre. ILT and WBT was wonderful for her career. He was largely missing from MOIA. And YDKWTD was probably the best single choice on MIAMTEC. They may cook up something fresh. Their pairing is legendary. And MC is practically 50. Why should she work with young fresh hot producers and rappers? Cardi B is literally half her age. I'm not putting her out to pasture but when is she going to ride off into the legendary sunset like Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin and Barbra Streisand did when she came out in 1990? I don't remember them collaborating with rappers. They were still making albums but no one was expecting them to have number ones in an era of Mariah, Whitney, Janet, Celine and Madonna. So we're expecting MC to have number ones in an era of Beyonce, Rihanna, Adele? Come on now. (Wednesday 13 June 2018; 01:33)

In that post I said everyone was crazy to think an album was coming. For her to say she's in the studio working on verses on Jimmy Kimmel means that she's seriously working on something. Maybe she'll release a very short album with 7-10 tracks which a lot of artists are doing these days. We know MC can record an album in three months as evidenced by Rainbow. Maybe she's gonna sell the album at her shows in a way to garner sales. I don't know when she would have time to perform and promote a single. Maybe she's going to make this one over the course of some time and then release everything next year. So there will be an album, but we will have to wait for it is my final verdict. Why doesn't she do more unplugged songs that's within her range that doesn't require studio tricks? Why doesn't she do more songs like this that she wouldn't have to lip? Why do ya'll think MC is releasing an album? (82,450) by Randy from USA This board is hilarious. If MC was releasing an album this summer, the single would have been released already. If she was releasing an album this fall, she wouldn't be signing to be in Vegas or hop-scotching all around Southeast Asia. And why does anyone think MC is going to bare all? She's an icon. Even if she has fallen to the gutter, which she hasn't, she knows she will never escape nude pics or their notoriety. She also knows her kids will have to deal with an unprescedented amount of teasing or bullying during adolescence. She will probably be nude with strategically place nipple and vaginal coverings. Album? What album? (82,271) by Randy from USA How is she readying a different Vegas show and planning to tour Southeast Asia at a time she's supposed to be dropping an album. I get that albums don't sell and tours do, but I was of the impression that MC was worth half a billion dollars and didn't need to be concerned about money. She clearly loves being near her fans but hates singing live so why the hunger for money?Remember when Stella said her main job was to make Mariah money? What is this all about? I want MC to be a recording artist and drop music she's inspired by, not concerts where she lips half and doesn't move without someone holding her hand because she can't walk in heels. The image is going to change and the bipolar thing was the vehicle to do so. No more eternally 12, being sexy is like dress up, ditzy diva facade, lighting dahling and songs with current rap flash-in-the-pans. I think we are going to get a grown up album and the extentions may go too. I am apprehensive but yet can't help but feel giddy. The A, B, 90s albums and The Disappearance of Mimi (81,151) by Randy from USA Great minds think alike B. I don't know where to place the three Toni Braxton albums or the three TLC albums or the three Mary J Blige albums or several Madonna sets I left off. I own them all and love them all but these albums to me are the best. And the fact that we are talking other artists' albums 20 years ago shows MC has been absent. I definitely don't want a rushed album so I'm being patient but didn't she write and record Rainbow in 3 months and write and record ILT, WBT and SIO in two weeks with JD? Butterfly vs. Ray of Light (81,125) by Randy from USA I love the album but I complete disagree. Ray of Light is not better than Butterfly because it's not inclusive of as many genres as Butterfly. Why am I the only one who is miffed by all the extra background singers on the live performances of My All and Through The Rain, when there are none on the records? Oh wait I'm repeating myself again. I have called you, you stopped calling me. And I desperately wanted to weigh in on you being called a racist homophobic Mariah hater but why have both of us hated, when it could just be you? My status on this board is mildly disliked but since I'm cute and love MC's obscure tracks, I'm somewhat tolerable. And I'll have you know that my Spring semester students have not had to hear MC yet. They've had to listen to Marvin Gaye, Madonna and The Dixie Chicks. They don't get Mariah until we get to more complex American literature. Right To Dream is still the best lyric ever written. It should run for President in 2020. Someone's had some splashes. Mariah's most inspiring song (80,663) by Randy from USA I gotta say, I've never been a fan of Hero. Even in 94. But I do love the mashup with Never Too Far especially her Home for the Holidays live performance in the red dress. I've always loved Anytime You Need a Friend. However, Mariah's Theme was my favorite until Through The Rain. And I can't believe it doesn't get more love in this particular discussion. Unfortunately, she's never performed it 100% live without a wall of background singers. Which really pisses me off because there is not one background singer on the song. In addition, she's abandoned it. But I can't tell y'all how many mornings on the way to work the line "shadows grow close" reminds me how dark our eternal optimist can be even in the middle of a hopeful moment. You lost the weight when Jenny Craig gave you a check after you had twins at 46 during which time you were mostly on bedrest. You want to lose weight? Drop the splashes. It's empty calories. You feel insecure about your body or internet trolls? Stop wearing leotards. For someone who claims they care about 12 year old fans emulating her, it's amazing she just sent a message that lazy people can now have weight loss surgery, if they have the money. The Velvet Rope is personal dark moody edgy and simply beautiful and it's a lot like Butterfly in that it one ups its predecessor. Mariah started getting introspective on Daydream and Butterfly one ups Daydream. As The Velvet Rope one ups Janet. And then 6 months later Madonna released her best album Ray of Light. I don't know what was going on with me, MC, Janet and Madonna 20 years ago, but albums only about romantic love were just not cutting it anymore. It must've been something in the water. And it occurred to me that for all the flack Taylor Swift gets about writing about exes, MC is the queen of that. She’s written a full anthology for Tommy. Clown for Em. Infinity for Nick, which by the way that line "everything you own you still owe" is mean. I Don’t for James. So my question is what songs do you all think were written with Derek Jeter or Luis Miguel in mind. And wasn’t she dating that executive Mark Sudek at one point? Is that who Becha Gon Know about?
