Hyperventilated (51,806)
by May from Denmark

|

I know and agree with the ones who commented that it was never officially promoted, from MC team, as an album where all the things that have been talked around since a couple of weeks here (duets, demos, etc.) were going to be part of it. But when MC said there were going to be "many surprises" somehow, in my mind (and this is me, I can't talk for others) I thought there was going to be more than just one new single. I understand this new compilation is an updated version but they are still songs we already had. I do agree we should support our artists, yes, and I also think that Mariah does work hard when she has to, that's a big yes. But there is a point as to where I would go in order to support an artist, buying her #1s once more is not going to make her more relevant, that is not true. Her Christmas stuff sold like hot pancakes once again last year and that didn't make her any more relevant than before, overall with the last album (which I find it to be amazing) flopping due to lack of exposure, promo, issues, friendships, divorce, whatever excuse you want to find. So this time, "a comeback" should be done with everything she's got. Like I said, from my honest place, I won't buy another #1s album. General public might, yes, why not? I will surely purchase the single. Mariah has no reason to be in the spotlight other than because she wants to, she already had in life everything. Music is her life. I say sing Mariah sing, because I love her voice and art.

#1s and Sony back (51,733)
by May from Denmark
| |
|
|
Perhaps, the only reason why she is releasing a full #1s compilation (yet again) is just to remind those that might have "forgotten" that she is still the number one and plans to come back for more. Considering how good was the last album in regards of musial quality (even when most of it was on the safe side), she still has great chances of hitting top charts once more. Surely the album will be available in iTunes and if the song Infinity is that great, single and remixes will come the way. Then I will purchase the single and the remixes. So far, being completely honest and humble in my choice, I will pass this compilation. But like I said, I think that this is only part of the "comeback" and reminding people that she still has more to give. She is trending right now, everyone is talking about her, and that is really good. The anticipation for the Vegas show is growing and eyes are starting to focus on her more and more.

I agree Mimi L. and others (51,732)
by May from Denmark

I think it's great to support the artist you love by purchasing their art but I'm an adult now and I can most definitely say "no" if I think something is unfair, my priorities are others, overall financially. If I'm going to purchase a complete album there's got to be more than just one new song. I've already bought in the past repeated material due to over-usage-damage (lol) as a teen so I think that I gave her even extra from my pockets. Are we sure that all the songs in the compilation are not re-sung? Here is what it would bother me about the album if it was all the same and just one addition: surely Mariah has dozen of songs lying around unused, she still has her demos and she is now back at Sony where she might have even more stuff, couldn't they just "recycle" some of that stuff and add it as extra bonus material in a second cd? The songs could not be worst than no songs at all. I bet it wouldn't really cost them anything except for a re-mastering, surely any fan would love to have all that included in the shelf catalog, I would buy it and mostly because I feel it would add important stuff to Mariah's history that are a "must have". If she is money hungry she could release something limited only available in the physical album and please, no Elle magazine commercial stuff, I'm talking about music, or even some audio of Mariah telling the fans some wonderful story of her life never heard before, so many things she could give the fans that could come out with.

Mariah looks great (51,684)
by May from Denmark

Thanks Shelly beforehand and it is so beautiful to have you back in the forum. Also thanks enwar00 for the shut out on the symbol, I actually didn't notice haha, I think it is so cool, a whole new icon of total completion. I took a look at the website before going to bed and there she was, looking amazing. It's an inspiration of the "old Mariah" so I think the picture is right, I didn't feel dissapointed by it. Also she seems more confident, the dark make up, the black dress, everything is imponent about the image. It's true promos seems faster and go by sooner as well now at days, but also got to admit that industries don't really have to pay that much anymore for promos as mostly it is now done by fans and people who enjoy the product. The whole "run the voice" and "create buzz" before it had to be done with endless spins of a single in the radio or an incredible stunt performed out of nowhere, or creating anticipation though tv music channels. Internet has indeed changed a lot. I haven't bought complete albums in forever, I love the digital era and the fact that I can chose what songs I want to consume, as opposed to having to cash on a whole album and only listen to half of it.

So much for waiting (51,625)
by May from Denmark

I think I'm done with the waiting haha. I will just check out tonight before going to bed. It's 12%. It does look like a different picture, not the same in color. Still, tho is a great move and a very fun one with all the sharing, I wished it was music or the album cover with a little sample. But I take what she gives right now.

Mariah coming back to being Mariah (51,604)
by May from Denmark
| |
|
|
The dress she wore to the charity was like a reminiscence of her 90s days with the leg showing in one side. While I'm not blown away by the dress as a style we have seen her wore several times before, it's like a modern version of the "old Mariah", I think that it is a great way to see that Mariah is "coming back" for real this time. She looked amazing and I feel this just might be her year.

Soon to be revealed and the waiting (51,601)
by May from Denmark
| |
|
|
Today being my birthday, I take this "reveal" as a present from Mariah haha, it couldn't be in a better day. I have the website opened with the countdown because I'm afraid it might crash or something like it happened with the Caesar's one hahaha, so just in case it is right up there so in case it goes all to hell at least I get a sneak peak before goes up again rofl. I agree that it would so lame if it was just artwork, I was thinking exactly the same. The anticipation is so incredibly much that now there is no way to go back, the surprise better be big haha. Love all this excitement. Regarding Triumphant, I so much love that song (except the rappers, sorry, me not digging it nhaw). My favorite version of Triumphant is the Vintage throwback. It is amazing. Blasted that version on repeat so many times and it sounds much better while drinking wine. Also someone mentioned (think RJIsomething, haha sorry can't write your nickname unless I look at it) that Say Somethin' is kinda weak and yes, I always thought so too. I only hear the song along with the video, the video is beautiful, Mariah looks gorgeous and sexy in there, sophisticated, cash cash. "Mine Again" is superb, it deserved much more.

Oh gosh (millions of exclamations). I just can't hold with this anticipation. I almost gouged my eyes in excitement when I was reading the news and the forum because I couldn't believe the waiting haha. So there is a surprise. I'm over gasped. The new refreshed era. Amazing.

No promo yet? (51,475)
by May from Denmark
| |
|
|
Since I live in Denmark, and her whole show will be at Vegas, I was hoping it was just because I live in this country that I was not having access to some kind of promo. Not even in her official website there is huge promo about it, just the same thing that is hanging on her twitter. I was expecting that there would be at least some tv commercial for the Vegas show and some posters available. There is nothing, also no new tv appearances (though she has been busy with work and then the holidays) but then no radio interviews, just a call from Brett anticipating stuff but not throwing a date neither. I was hoping that by the end of this month there would be a single release mostly as feed and promo but nothing has been really said out loud to the public. I wonder what is up, is she going to keep up without having any commercial back up or is there a huge surprise noone expected coming on the way?

Great post Jared (51,473)
by May from Denmark

I was thinking exactly the same, that some people feel like they are family with MC but reality, we like to accept or not, she may be just giving us a "public image for the fans", much like Joan Crawford used to have. While the stories of both mega stars are completely different, what I go is to the point that both have in common the dedication and passion to "live for the fans", so who knows if Mariah as well as Joan created a character just for us, in any way I love Mariah and while before she may have been seemed as "shy" maybe the experience and her freedom just made her be more spontaneous with the fans and in interviews. In reality none of us know how she is at her home 24/7. I also never liked Cannon, always found him immature and goofy but it was what she chose, she liked him and it seemed as if he liked her very much as well. But closed doors only them know what was and is going on. I haven't commented on Nick and the book because what I think is that if it's really confirmed that he did signed in order to release a book, maybe the book is not even going to be about Mariah but about himself and all his doodly-doo and probably maybe include some story about his marriage. It was the same with Damizza in the past and he went in an interview and said "babygirl (Mariah) can be calm because I didn't say anything she would dislike" - paraphrasing because I don't recall exactly. Maybe it is just the same thing all over again.

Following the nostalgia stories (51,449)
by May from Denmark
| |

|
Beautiful to read some of these stories. Mine goes back to when the "Simpsons" were the hype and I remember telling my parents I would love a Bart Simpson doll as birthday present. I did get him and also the Simpsons music album and my mom got for herself the Mariah Carey debut album. I remember my mom was super happy and I asked her "Who is this one? Nobody knows her." Lol and I kept doing my interpretations of funny Bart phrases that all kids knew. Then I heard at school one song by Mariah Carey and I was curious, went home and I decided to hear my mom's "old people's music" haha and there I was hooked with "Prisoner", I loved Mariah doing her rapping part (those days rap/hip hop was everywhere). Since then her music accompanied me through my worst moments which I will keep private, went through very bad stuff but her music always kept me up, overall the "never give up" and "keep on dreaming" phrases, have always lift me up when I needed. My husband pokes fun at me sometimes because I like MC a lot, when I moved with him and I had to leave all my belongings in my born-country the first things he gifted me were MC albums. I recall when we used to live apart he once told me around Christmas time "that Mariah Carey is on the radio singing something about missing (Miss You Most was the song) and is making me sad because it reminds me of you". Aww, Mariah has been there even in that moment spontanously lol. I love her forever.

Does really anyone care weight? (51,288)
by May from Denmark
| |
|
|
Seriously, anyone cares the weight anymore? We all know Mariah has never been a fan of gym and she had said several times she dislikes to do gym and that she simply loves to enjoy eating without guilt. Once she even was sent to the hospital for oyster poisoning, it was very long time ago but still. Remember the time she was super fit, very slim and sexy for her E=MC2, where she showed people the exercises she had to do and the way she looked at some salads her dietician was preparing for her on a tv show? People in those days complained that Mariah looked too slim, some even said she was anorexic and others that anyone could lose that much weight if they did pills all day. If she loses weight people complain, if she gains weight people complains, if she eats salads people whine, if indulges in things she likes people whine. Leave her alone. She might still be recovering from the divorce, who feels like stepping on a trend-mill? With all the work she is having she felt better to spend time with her kid on her free time than doing some push ups, so what. She is not even obese or anything terrible, she just has a couple of tiny rolls. In Ellen she looked almost the same, I think the dress, the camera angle did a difference, also the high heels stylize you a lot, any girl knows that. She might as much gained what, 3-5 kilograms, not a big deal to lose them. Let her breath, right now she is focusing on work.

(51,211) by Andrew (51,220)
by May from Denmark

You realize Andrew that she wasn't the only one asked to do the carpool thing right? It's part of the show and an idea of the host, she could have always go and say "I don't want to ride in a car but sing on stage" but she didn't, she was asked to do the car thing and she accepted and she was light and fun and that was that. For the video budget, I agree Mimi L. that Mariah hasn't been given much attention at all, the simplicity of her video. #Beautiful also showed that (even though I did like the takes and the way MC looked in the yellow dress). Yes Andrew, you are right that MC videos haven't been amazing but the only artist that I recall being desperate enough to spend all the cash to do a big promo was Lady Gaga as she was near bankrupt, she bankrupted herself putting all the money on a stage show that it did pay off, but then again, that was a desperate move. Is really MC that desperate? I believe she can still pick up the act. I'm hoping she is surrounded by a whole new better team. Let's agree Kanye was a bigger diva b*tch lol.

MC plus Brett (51,204)
by May from Denmark
| |
|
|
They truly are a dynamic duo. I personally love all the videos he directed for her except HATEU. While I enjoyed MC in her simple monokinis and the beautiful beach view, there was nothing else, I was hoping to see some kind of sad love story with a bit of depth for that one, almost like the "We belong together" one. I was dissapointed when the video for that beautiful song came out. But since all the other videos have been amazing, I am actully expecting the same quality again, giving Brett another chance for this time blow our eyelashes out. I can't wait to see for what song is the video as well. Anyone has got a clue? Great news, and thanks to the person who posted the link to the phone call.

Delightful Mariah (51,167)
by May from Denmark
| |
|
|
The car sketch shows once again why Mariah is such a delightful and fun person. My wish for Mariah's anniversary is for this to be her year and blast everyone with great new music. Wish her to be triumphant this upcoming Vegas. I would love for her to keep up the good vibe she has been having. She looks youthful. Hopefully the arm sling is nothing more than reinforcement/prevention, perhaps she had a minor surgery, whatever it is, I hope she recovers fast. Love Mariah.

Christmas album (51,051)
by May from Denmark
| |
|
|
I find it almost odd that there is already a talk for another Christmas album when we just not long ago had Christmas haha. I like her idea of doing live duets to promote her last album but I dislike the people she choose to sing with. Justin Bieber was a horrible choice mostly because his voice was going under a change, so it was terrible timing. And Michael Buble was just awful, the live performance he sang with her was weak. If she is going to do another Christmas duet it has to be with someone really good and not just go for the popular, or if it's popular at least who can keep up with Mariah, Buble voice felt sounded so inferior. I liked a lot that her mom was part of the process and sang together, was a beautiful moment to enjoy, I always wondered when she was going to sing a song with her daughter. If she goes for a new Christmas album and why not, Mariah is Christmas Queen, she should do something very cheerful with new songs and not go for classics like in her last one.

Edward, yes (51,028)
by May from Denmark

It's nice to read some voice of reason. I understand people want to keep an open mind but there are things that with the time they just keep repeating, some of us have lived through the... how many so far? Four-five calls for the Armageddon and the end of the world? Really, how many times more? It's almost laughable that people always point at the illuminati because they are a "secret organization" but seem to forget that the best known evangelist preachers who are not in hiding in the US are all mega rich, money they did out of the pocket of their followers, live in the least humble ways and they use "symbols" everybody knows and all in the name of Jesus but nobody seems to be much bothered about them taking from those in need. Sometimes I feel people just like to believe in such things as illuminati because is "mysterious ooooh spooky". Keep an open mind but don't eat everything you get fed. Edward you said it right, money buys anything.

Mariah "into that one group" (51,027)
by May from Denmark
| |
|
|
Amber C, I'm not saying Mariah could not suddenly have been talked into this or that and gone a bit loopy, I'm not denying that, she could go for whatever she believes and falls for, after all, if there are people like Tom Cruise and Travolta getting so much scammed by Scientology clearly why not Mariah being used as well for some other garbage out there, she is in a weak spot after the divorce, the low sales album, the lip-synch act, etc. There are always leeches and people who want to take advantage, why not, yes. But from there for me to think she is acting weird, I personally don't think so, she has been very polite and sweet the few times she has been caught. The woman in black, like you well said, could just be someone from a new team, a new friend, she could be anyone, we don't live with Mariah 24/7 to know every single person she has in her telephone agenda. What I pointed out before is that the whole illuminati stuff is just another bollocks of the tons and unaccountable amounts of made up things, I just hope Mariah is smarter than that. When I was small, there was this fanatism with the occult, people'd think that everything was satanic, from very popular celebrities to metal and kids songs. The most popular ridiculous thing to do was to "summon" Satan by picking the cassette of your favorite artist or disco and play it backwards, then you would hear the devil talking to you, and people believed it, people believed Brooke Shields was part of a satanic club lol.

YouTube, Amber C (51,026)
by May from Denmark

There is an option in YouTube and Google accounts where you can simply hide any info including the history. The history can be wiped out clean and set into private mode including likes given to videos and comments done, etc. Also even other uploads can be set to private or public, so who knows, maybe the person might have other videos "hidden" around. It is a lot of mystery haha, pretty funny. I would love to hear the whole songs. Regarding the "lost interview", Mariah mentioned in there she did lots and lots of songs including alternative. And that is exactly what I'm dying for, because she even laughed about it. What type of alternative music could Mariah have done? Wow, I hope one day she releases a bunch of those past things or ventures in those places publicly.

The Truth (51,012)
by May from Denmark
| |
|
|
You need to put the tinfoil down and the paranoia aside and the conspiracy theories just drop them, really, all that garbage just throw it away. Stop all that superstition and don't try to drag people into that trap. Also, Mariah on pills, booze, yada yada? What? I admit Mariah does drinky-drinky up to tipsy point on stage a few times but on pills, or being an alcoholic, that's far fetched. If she was on Xanax and other "on-the-counter-let's-abuse-it mix prescribed" we would all know by now, I highly doubt she is the one that goes around gulping down her throat oxycodone while drinking a Patron. The only time she was linked remotely to drugs was when that lawyer came out saying she does cocaine and yet his story was implausible. I could imagine trying out pot once in a while, she is always surrounded by rappers so why not haha, even if it's second hand. But come on, sotp making up ridiculous assumptions and stop with with the Illuminati BS because that's what it is, superstitious stuff, come back and live the 21st century please. Science and reason are calling.

I think it's great to take a break once in a while, it can become addictive, that is so true. But it's because the forum is so much fun and nice and such a great place to keep updated with everything, this is the best MC site and the best forum where people are open to be as opinionated as they want, it's wonderful the freedom. And such freedom it makes you want to stick here "forever" haha. I will miss your posts Shelly, you add such a sweetness to this board that no one else can. You are full of lovely thing. I wish that in this break you get to enjoy your RL (real life) to the max, and hope to see you fresh for updates on the Vegas show. I'm counting on you. Much love from this stranger afar.

Re: Shelly, evolution (50,770) (50,777)
by May from Denmark
| |
|
|
I agree with you in that, at least with this last album, I felt no real evolution at all. The music is beautiful but there were melodies I felt I heard them before, perhaps is because she was trying to give the fans what they wanted. I really loved the Emancipation because the whole 70s felt like a true new vibe, the orchestra sounded amazing, even the B sides were amazing. E=MC2 was fun, and I take it as that, there were a few truly good songs that I enjoy to hear up to this day. But with Memoirs I felt that she wasn't really trying much, she gave us again a lot of the same, when she said she was coming to her roots, I thought she meant something like the first albums. The songs I liked the most from that album are "Betcha Gonna Know", HATEU (so beautiful, pity the video was so boring), "The Impossible", and "It's a wrap". The rest for me were overproduced fillers, I can't stand listening to "Ribbon", I feel without all the heavy arrangement and effects it's a great song. Mariah needs a touch of freshness but keeping her signature. I thought she was going to venture to do music with someone different, yet she is again with JD. Hopefully they will do something wonderful, that could be ready for her Vegas show and that she could release worldwide for publicity, so we all get to enjoy it in high quality and not from a phone record.

Re: Dembabies book (50,229)
by May from Denmark

The book is out there Shelly and Nick did some marketing for it and some promotions around Christmas time but Mariah didn't. I don't think she got that much say in the book to be honest, it seems more like something Nick wanted to do and Mariah was ok with it. I have a child but I didn't buy the book, it's like a counting book, not really a story book but for the price I much rather buy an Emily Gravett book. Amazon UK doesn't even have reviews for the Dembabies book. But I feel some way like you, it's like he took advantage that Mariah is a Christmas icon and released a Christmas book with the kids. Surely the children will love it though, why not, it's them, children love to see themselves in stuff haha. But I agree with you, I haven't seen the kids around the Christmas promotion book neither up to these days. Supposedly Nick never really wanted them "out and about" for the world to see.

B this is no conspiracy (50,095)
by May from Denmark
| |
|
|
If we have to tell the truth and nothing but the truth, the media and critics have never liked Mariah. She said in an interview that she grew "thick skin" and every time she had to talk about critics since the very beginning she would smirk and say "you know what the critics say, everybody's a critic" and she would laugh (and that's me paraphrasing but different interviews had come to the same kind of line). I don't believe that is lately that the media bashes MC, I think they just have it easier because the digital era. Before internet was a common commodity at home, all we could rely on was radio and magazines cut outs and whatever MTV and MuchMusic would feed us, yellow magazines and gossiping shows weren't the big boom thing neither, people would comment rumors but fans and everybody else would brush off quickly. Now at days, the media would do anything for internet anonymous comments. Mariah has always been very proud of her number ones and the awards that she has won thanks to the people's votes, she probably even disses her own Grammys lol. I doubt it has anything to do with sexism since most of the ones on top of charts are women, does it have to do with age? Maybe, why not but if yes then why, it's not like Sia is 20 year old and she is everywhere right now. I do think the yellow media does like to punch Mariah, probably because she has been having misses and because she ignores them. She told TMZ "don't ask me, you know I won't ever comment".
