This article mentions Mariah and is about R&B's decline in popularity.

Re: Why (88,726) (88,735) by B from USA
This era isn't about a #1 single or a #1 album, it's about repairing Mariah's public image after Stella's reign of terror. Mariah is an R&B artist and R&B music is no longer popular music. Mariah's commercial performance will improve once R&B is popular again. Mariah's commercial downturn is intricately linked to R&B's. Both began in 2008.

My bad I was busy focusing on the Minnesota R&B and Adult Contemporary charts.

Madonna said she'd rather be dead than be Mariah Carey.

I like how he's categorized as someone who knows she's capable of so much more and yet according to him he hasn't been capable of greatness since 1995/1996.

Re: 40 million on YouTube views for Caution (88,659) (88,672) by B from USA
When I said this era should be compared to the Charmbracelet era I didn't mean statically. Both albums came after a disappointing period in Mariah's career however Charmbracelet was critically derided while Caution is critically acclaimed. Critics openly questioned not only Mariah's ability to sing on Charmbracelet but her ability to write.

Selling 200,000 ww copies of an album in this day and age is the equivalent of going platinum in the 90's. Considering the best selling album of the year only sold 1.6 million ww in combined sales. [Webmaster: This is in the UK only, not world wide.]

Caution has sold what it has in less than four months while it's taken Charmbracelet almost 16 years to sell 3 million copies and it was released when albums still routinely sold 5 to 10 million copies.

Re: 40 million on YouTube views for Caution (88,656) (88,658) by B from USA
This goal is not only reachable but realistic unlike expecting Mariah to top the Hot 100 at this stage in her career. Members of this board like to dismiss With You's success at Adult Contemporary and R&B radio but I think at this stage in her career scoring her biggest hit at those formats since Fly Like A Bird is a respectable feat, one she didn't accomplish any of the singles from Charmbracelet. I think this era shouldn't be compared to TEOM era but the Charmbracelet era. We need to readjust our expectations. Mariah only said she would love to work with Cardi and Kim not that she was going to. JD's egotistical tweets set this remix up for failure. Yes, the remix is bad but it doesn't retroactively make the album version bad.

Re: A No No remix (88,653) (88,657) by B from USA
One shitty remix doesn't change how I feel about the album or era. Say what you want about the remix but Mariah delivered on the album.

Re: The remix (88,627) (88,633) by B from USA
Not looking for anyone to blame just wondering if this rule, a rule that was implemented after Mariah's last great remix was released, is why she keeps releasing copy and paste remixes. Let's not pretend JD didn't create this mess with his tweets. He's the one who said he had dmed both Kim and Missy about the remix and implied that they responded and he goes as far as saying he sent Kim the beat and yet we get a remix featuring Stefflon which he is blaming on the label.

The author of this piece obviously has no clue that Mariah writes her own songs.

Re: The remix (88,618) (88,624) by B from USA
At least he didn't throw Mariah under the bus this time like he did after MIAM underperformed. He does seem upset but he caused all of this. Maybe JD's beat was garbage so they went with a copy and paste remix instead.

Re: A No No (88,620) (88,623) by B from USA
Agreed. I could understand releasing a remix with Stefflon Don if she was signed to Epic or a subsidiary of Sony but she isn't if her Wikipedia page is accurate. Maybe Epic chose her in hopes her inclusion will improve the song's performance on the European market?

A No No (88,622) by B from USA
The following excerpt explains why artists no longer remix their songs.

A growing trend in the early first decade of the 21st century was to issue a song as a "remix" that was so drastically different in structure and lyrical content from its original version that it was essentially a whole new song. Under normal circumstances, airplay points from a song's album version, "radio" mix and/or dance music remix, etc. were all combined and factored into the song's performance on the Hot 100, as the structure, lyrics and melody remained intact. Criticisms began when songs were being completely re-recorded to the point that they no longer resembled the original recording. The first such example of this scenario is Jennifer Lopez' "I'm Real". Originally entering the Hot 100 in its album version, a "remix" was issued in the midst of its chart run that featured rapper Ja Rule. This new version proved to be far more popular than the album version and the track was propelled to number one.

To address this issue, Billboard now separates airplay points from a song's original version and its remix, if the remix is determined to be a "new song". Since administering this new chart rule, several songs have charted twice, normally credited as "Part 1" and "Part 2". The remix rule is still in place.

A No No (88,611) by B from USA
JD went on a tangent about how he reached out to Kim and Missy and even sent Kim the track. He went on to say that Epic is responsible for this remix and that he doesn't know why Epic decided to go with Stefflon Don instead of Kim. My money is Kim asked for more money than the label was willing to pay her. Personally, I don't think the song needs to be remixed.

Guess it was a fake May Ann Tatum account because Mariah just confirmed that the A No No remix featuring Stefflon Don is dropping March 15th.

Really? It sounds like an R&B ballad to me especially when compared to Just To Hold You Once Again, Without You, Hero, and All I've Ever Wanted. It's a beautiful song.

Stefflon Don (88,570) by B from USA
According to several sources the Stefflon Don remix isn't the official remix. Mary Ann replied that it was just Stefflon doing her own thing and that she hopes it's great and boosts the song.

I said it sounds like an Emotions song and proposed maybe it was either an unused song from the Emotions sessions or was the first song written during the Music Box sessions before Tommy demanded Mariah make a pop leaning album.
