She appears to be getting better and better vocally but I have noticed the whistle register notes are either gone or weak or lipped. Chante Moore still can produce a beautiful whistle note and wrap it around a soft melody. See Chante Moore "It's alright" live and that's a beautiful soft whistle so remarkable Mariah has all but abandoned the notes.

I agree. Her voice is thicker and richer now, in fact now is probably the heaviest her voice has ever been. I think she still uses more of her chest voice in her mix, that's why her voice sounds so heavy. But then this predominantly chesty mix is taking a toll on her voice's flexibility. She does still have a good agility but she could use some balancing of her head-chest ratio in her mix in order to retain some of her former ease and flexibility.

To me her current voice does somehow sound more powerful live, it seems heavier and more authoritative. What she lost, though is a lot of the fluidity and ease. She doesn't push as much for the usual sky-high ad libs. She does know her limitations and resorts to vocal saves for alternatives. She just doesn't know that pretty much everyone knows it as well.

As someone who is hard on Mariah's live performance vocals, I'll give her credit for some of what I've seen in the recent shows. She seems to be trying more. However, I want to know what is going on with her whistle register. Her high notes in the show are lipped IMO. I can only think of maybe 5 in the last year that may have been live but they sounded sick a la Jamaica VOL from last year. I remember when she would have bad vocal moments (Rainbow and Mimi tour) but those high notes would ring out almost as if she was trying to make up for the rest of her voice struggling. Now a days there aren't any more spontaneous or superfluous whistle notes. Has anyone else noticed this? I miss my high notes.

Her voice sounds better to me now live than it did during TEOM era. I have no idea what she did to get her voice back but I am really happy that it has returned. That's been the best thing about this era so far to me. I hope she gives raw vocals on her next album because the one thing I didn't like about MIAMTEC is how heavily edited her voice sounded.

I just can't with some of you. A lot of you are just missing the point. You guys are actually very nice, next to me. I wish I didn't give a shit about everything and keep quiet. Believe it or not, I have a right to my opinion and will voice it, if and when I please. But here, let me sprinkle some fairy dust for you guys, seeing that that's what you all love. Mariah does nothing wrong, she is perfect, she should just get a bunch of awards "just because she's Mariah" (found that laughable), and we are all learning from her. Yasss honey, long live the perfect, impervious queen.

Best seats for Vegas show? (63,433)
by Philipp from Switzerland

To all the lambs who've been to Mariah's Vegas show: which seating section would you recommend or not recommend? I think I'm gonna go for the 250 dollar tickets, since I'm flying all the way from Switzerland and want to get my money's worth. And doesn't she walk through the audience at one point when she performs Heartbreaker? I wanna sit in that aisle.

I really want her to be done with the Vegas residency too. I hope she doesn't extend it further. Plus now is the moment Mariah should record because her voice is very strong and she has found her confidence so she can nail a live performance easily. Plus she got her body back, she needs to be all over the places, in magazines, on TV, in music videos promoting the hell out of a new music project, single or album.

I do agree with you Licia and never meant to say that "all do" but clearly a fair amount of those known to have hanged with Mariah did (along with some criminal records for a couple of them). But yes, I don't argue with you at all in that not all live that lifestyle. My take is on those who Mariah have been known to be around. So let's carry on then hehe.

You know what I thought the same thing. At first I thought we would have something by summer or by fall, but I also think that she won't release anything this year. And I agree, I'd rather her take her time to put together a great album than release something fast. Her next album can't fail. I'm also hoping she'll stop the Vegas residency and than focus on promoting her new album. She just needs to sound and look her best. I want another 2006 Grammy moment.

What message did Mariah write about her support for Hillary? I couldn't find it anywhere. I do remember when she, Oprah and Beyonce were practically campaigning for Obama. I also thought for a moment that maybe she didn't say anything in her social media about the Orlando shooting because the last time she posted a single image of "Pray for Paris" there was a big havoc in her Instagram with people arguing about religion and terrorism and then it turned into talks about Israel and Palestine and later some people insulting and all this between messages of sorrow. Maybe this time they wanted to just be more cautious? I personally think that since she had the award she could have done a small show as remembrance, sing Bye-bye and One Sweet Day, or do a tv appearance singing these songs. She did appeared on the radio though but seems people take more seriously Twitter than the radio, does it really show more empathy what media she chooses? Yes, Lady Gaga appeared and showered the people with her tears but somehow I always felt that Gaga since her "gay hit" as I call it, she has been just milking it, obviously that's just my opinion. Were people expecting Mariah to do a Gaga? Perhaps she needs to do more public some charity but to be sincere 100%, I never thought of Mariah as being huge on philanthropy and massive charity. I could be wrong.

New music (63,427)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Since Mariah said she'll be in the studio soon, I think there are no plans to release an album this year. Makes me sad, I need new Mariah music, but I would rather have her put together a strong album and have the release strategy in place instead of making a rush release just to put music out. I was wondering what happened to the single she said we might see soon back in February. I'm also curious about who she reached out to in order to collaborate since she said she reached out to some new people she hasn't worked with. I am here for fresh new sounds from Mariah. I just don't know when she'll have time in between Vegas, the show, the South American leg of SSFT and the Beacon shows. By the way is it strange that she is already promoting Mariah's World but we don't have a release date yet? I heard it might be released in September, but then why promote it so early? Anyways I am looking forward to the docu-series too, hopefully we'll get some fun real Mariah moments.

Re: I don't like the new Mariah (63,384) (63,426)
by May from Denmark

I think it's all about personal taste. You might not like what she has done after 1999 except for TEOM but I found that Charmbracelet had some gems, I just didn't feel the production, some stuff sounded too forced. I love E=MC2, all the songs are so uplifting an catchy, it's a happy album and it makes me feel happy, her last effort had really nice songs, perhaps some had much more potential but it was a good effort. The only album I really didn't enjoy the fullest was MOAIA, I only liked about 4 songs, it felt overproduced and in an obvious way to try to catch up with what was going mainstream the album got lost in a bunch of fake didgeridoo. I love her old music but mostly because her voice sounded unstoppable. Now at days she is recovering her voice but I'm beyond if she hits certain octave for a whole minute, I'm looking right now for more lyrics that make sense, that tell a story, that could be something relatable. Some of her lyrics since TEOM feel like too much Louis Vuitton, Jimmy Choo, MOET and every lux brand that could be thrown and is not the every day thing for the average person, it's like she is speaking about an alien world for the majority who are not capable of afford the things she tastes. How can you relate to someone when you don't know what taste they are talking about? It's like not being on the same page. I felt that at least in her last album there were sincere lyrics, that came from within, from a feeling and an experience. I think it's silly to say that she is the "new Mariah", she very likely has always been this way. Tommy Mottola just made sure he would have an image to sell, a product, she was that, in her very few backstage videos you could see she was a free spirited girl who probably just wanted to have some fun but was overworked. Her music was felt but some of it was very obviously forced, a couple of titles from Music Box comes to mind. I'm actually glad she is being honest with herself and being whoever she always wanted to be as it seems but there's no denial that I will keep expecting quality music, which as of late it has been slightly ping-pong. To be honest, I will judge with a definitive note with an upcoming new album if she truly doesn't feel the music anymore and it is perhaps that the reason she is venturing into acting and directing.

Extreme emotions (63,424)
by RibbonB from USA

Nobody on this message board is Omar Mateen and people may empathize with the victims but all the emotional histrionics are nothing compared to the pain the actual victims and their families have experienced. Mariah made her statement and people will react to this kind of thing in their own way, but projecting all this anger onto Mariah is a bit much. If she said too much, too soon someone would be here bashing her for that as a negative thing. Mariah is good at music and show business and we debate those subjects forever and forever. But on this subject, if some feel she said too little or too late, at least she is not fake with sharing her feelings on sensitive subjects.

Disgusted and appalled (63,423)
by Mirage_Nunez from America

Some of you have reached an all time low on this board. This tragedy is not about a Mariah tweet. Stop it. You're starting to sound beyond pathetic and petty focusing on Mariah's response rather than the victims of this henious act. Direct those hard feelings towards Omar Mateen (you know the person who actually hurt and killed people). You are no better than Mariah in this matter. Anybody with a pure heart quite naturally would be in mourning, we don't need a tweet to verfiy that. That doesn't make her any less of a person that supports the gay community. The woman gave her sincere condolences on radio and dedicated her One Sweet Day performance to the victims and their loved ones (just as I suspected she would do). Just accept that you jumped the gun on this situation. Stop being so desperate to find a way to blame her for everything that goes wrong in the world and stop trying to destroy her character. You should know better.

We definitely need to move on and leave Mariah alone (63,422)
by Giovanni from USA

Nobody cares about that silly award. I'm sure when she accepted it she really didn't care. It's just another award to her collection of other better awards. As a gay man I'm not offended or disappointed in Mariah for not acknowledging the tragic event that took place. Do people actually constantly check her socia media accounts on a daily basis or what? Maybe she could have maybe sent a tweet, but for whatever reason she didn't, who cares? As someone posted, a tweet isn't going to do anything for anyone. I know if I was a friend or relative of one of the victims I could care less if Mariah sent a tweet. Why? Because she's Mariah Carey. The fact that she dedicated "One sweet day" to them was way better than some tweet. I honestly think some lambs or wolves in sheep's clothing just look for whatever reason to attack her. Like a certain somebody from the UK. You know who you are.

Radio silence for days, no excuse (63,420)
by Chris from United States
| |
|
|
MC has always had a special place in my heart and I've been giving her free passes for the last couple of years, but I'm not just taking this lying down. I've given her the benefit of the doubt for cheating fans of their meet and greets, videos that imply she is cheating on her fiancé, acting childish with feuds, nipples popping, and lack of appreciation for fans. But, I won't sit here and pretend it's alright that she chose to pay dust to this huge tragedy, for as long as she has. You're damn right, that 20 second clip of her saying she's praying for people isn't enough, especially when she had to be prompted first, I'm sure. Yes, she has kids, a billionaire finance, singing, drinking, and partying with Russian leeches. Of course, her head is in a different place than it was 10 years ago, when she was still somewhat relatable. Why is it too much to ask, for this woman who was just awarded as a gay ally, to take 5 minutes out of her pants dropping schedule, to just show one iota of appreciation for this award. Honestly, I probably wouldn't give a rats ass about her two cents, if she had not accepted that GLAAD award. Is it so bad to hold someone accountable for what they say they stand for? I don't think so, and for those that combat with, "What good would a little tweet do?" Do you know what not saying anything does? It makes you Omar Mateen. Saying something can make a difference, because her voice catches the ears to millions of people. As someone mentioned earlier, I will probably get over this, but might think twice, before purchasing flight, hotel, and concert tickets to see her. Marisa is right, there is no excuse for this.
