About Matty from Vancouver Canada:
I love music of all kinds, with R&B and pop toping my list of favourite genres. I've been a Mariah fan since Charmbraclet, there was something about that album that connects on a deep level. Other favourite albums are Glitter, Daydream, The Emancipation of Mimi, and Me. I Am Mariah.
My Favourite Mariah Songs are: The Art of Letting Go, Fantasy & Shake It Off.
My Least Favourite album is Music Box.
My most start-to-finish listened album (don't-skip-a-track albums): Emotions, Butterfly, The Emancipation of Mimi and Me. I Am Mariah: The Elusive Chanteuse.

I meant "Inseparable" Jump Smokers remix (although I do love the Irresistible remix from Charbraclete [sic] as well, haha).

Three album groupings (56,087)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
After the Charbracelet/Rainbow discussion was brought up on this board, it got me thinking. MC kinda has three different "categories" of albums she releases. This is how I see them. (This is not rating or commenting on the quality of music in any way.) Commercial "Pop" albums: These are albums where Mariah follows of-the-moment pop music trends and are crafted to be pop-music gold. 1. Mariah Carey (debut) - the Whitney/Janet trend 2. Music Box - Celine Dion trend 3. Rainbow - Destiny's Child trend 4. E=MC2 - Beyonce trend Artistic expression: There is no other album out there that sounds like these quintessential Mariah artistic masterpieces. 1. Butterfly - post Tommy divorce 2. Charmbracelet - post mental and physical exhaustion breakdown 3. Me. I Am Mariah. - during Nick marital destruction Albums blending what Mariah loves about her artistry/music and what will she can sell to the general public: 1. Emotions - Emotions vs. The Wind 2. The Emancipation of Mimi - We Belong Together vs. Joy Ride 3. Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel - Obsessed vs. Languishing What do you think?

Rainbow/Charmbracelet and JS vs MC album (56,085)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
In my opinion, Charmbracelet is a much more artistic and inspired album then Rainbow. You can't even compare the two. Charmbracelet is in my top three albums, where as I agree with what another poster said, Rainbow is in my bottom two (or maybe it's my least favourite). Heartbreaker (original and remix), and Bliss are three of Mariah's best songs, but the rest of the album is so choppy and doesn't have flow. I don't feel like Rainbow really sounds like Mariah, the instrumentation and production seem to harsh against Mariah's voice. X-Girlfriend, How Much, Did I Do That, eek. And I hate to say it, but Thank Guy I Found You is too sing-songy to me, it's her most "Pop-basic" #1. It reminds me of a Jessica Simpson or Mandy Moore song or something. I love the Jump Smokers vs Mariah Carey album. I was just as Obsessed (wink wink) with both albums. The Irresistible remix is one of her best dance club remixes ever. It should have been a single, and on a standard album cut.

Gilles, I didn't know about a "Side Effects" remix until you posted that. I know you don't, but I love it. Thanks for mentioning it. I've always loves the original but a Busta verse and some extra sparkles in products. I'm down. Anyway, thank you.

Rolling Stone/Telegraph (56,019)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada

I will never understand Rolling Stone's blatant hate for Mariah. Why so much hate from them? I remember when they published their "100 Greatest Singers of All Time" list a few years back, and put Mariah at #79 whereas Bob Dylan sat at #7. Bob Dylan was a lot of things to music, on of the "Greatest Singers" he certainly was not. In fact he was known to be the exact opposite. People hated his voice, especially when he first hit the music scene. What the Rolling Stone has done by being so unprofessional and bias in what they publish is turn themselves into a joke, and wannabe of what they use to represent. They are not the respected music magazine they were in the 60/70s. This publication wants to say the represent "Real Music. Real Talent. Real song writing. " Then when you get the perfect blend of pop-R&B princess/singer-songwriter, with a phenomenal voice they continually disregard and disrespect her. Someone, who actually represents everything they say and stand for. Instead they promote smoke and mirror flash-in-the-pan artists. Rolling Stone has been a joke since the mid-90's. They continually prove themselves to be out of touch, and to have shockingly poor taste in music and artistry. Why are these corporate "music enthusiasts" helping to erode the music scene to shallow fluff? I remember Mariah saying in an interview years and years ago, while laughing, that Rolling Stone always gets Barry Walters to review her album, and she said he openly says he is not a fan of anything Mariah does. How is this unbiased? How is this professional?

Article: The discography is back online (55,998)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
The discography. Thank you, thank you, thank you for putting it back up. So many of us appreciate it. I would be so appreciated if you could update it. Aren't the only official label releases since your last update (which was "Playlist: the very best of Mariah Carey"): The Essential Mariah Carey (no singles), Me I am Mariah... The elusive Chanteuse ("#Beautiful", "The Art of Letting Go", "You're Mine (Eternal)", "You Don't Know What To Do"), and #1 To Infinity ("Infinity"). I understand the disappointment in the physicality to music evolving into some thing less tangible, and not as enjoyable to interact with (I have the same frustration). I would personally love the updated because this was the one site that had such a comprehensive list. Please don't give up.

64 Videos top ten consideration (55,975)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
I love this ranking of 64 MC videos. I'm sure we would all have a very different order if we did it all from scratch ourselves. For me, i'm thinking "I Want to Know What Love is" at 60 or "Almost Home" at 56, what? I love those videos far more then others lol. But instead of doing our own top 10 lists, I want to suggest something different. Starting at #1, go down the list, and the moment you come across a song that you do not believe should be a top ten consideration, eliminate it from the list. You can't rearrange the order (for example, you can't put Fantasy above Heartbreaker), this is not your order. I'm more interested in seeing what songs out of the writers top billing would you say deserve top ten consideration. Here's my list, eliminating the songs along the way that I do not believe deserve top 10 consideration: 1. Fantasy 2. Heartbreaker 3. Honey 4. Boy (I Need You) 5. Up Out My Face 6. Obsessed 7. Touch My Body 8. It's Like That 9. There's Got to be a Way 10. We Belong Together

Discography, Mimi L. and album art faves (55,952)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
Yes, please bring back the discography with singles off each album listed (with updates). I loved it and referenced it a lot. Please please bring it back (even if it's in old formate). Mimi L, you're probably right about T. Swift and 1989, it was released more then 5 months after. Such a mystery. I wish MC would give us more clues to the culprit. My favourite album artwork hands down are E=MC2, Me I Am Mariah (proper deluxe edition, not the original Emancipation style one or the shady head-on bootleg looking deluxe edition artwork), Emotions and Rainbow. These four are head and shoulders above the rest for me. My favourite single artwork is "The Art of Letting Go", "Honey", "H.A.T.E.U", "Breakdown" and "Bringing on the Heartbreak".

I also assumed Mariah is talking about Beyoncé with her "Beyoncé" album. Mostly I think the secret drop was Mariah's idea. But if that were the case, why would she continue telling the media how she loves Bey after the fact? I remember right before #Beautiful was released there was a lot of general public curiosity and excitement about what Mariah was working on. However, I also have wondered if Mariah was referring to Taylor Swift's "1989" album. Remember Mariah's demo tape audio was leaked on YouTube, which she recorded in 1988/89. The look of the album art I could see Mariah doing (it'd be a bit different for her, but I could see it being all about the nostalgia). I thought that maybe Mariah had some amazing idea to celebrate her demo and release new music all at the same time. It couldn't be "Bangerz" or "Prism". Maybe "Ultraviolence" by Lana Del Ray. Both Taylor and Lana are similar artists to Mariah in the sense they are among the very few artists who actually write and produce their own music, so this is kind of the basis I'm drawing comparison for.

Mariah looked Fabulous at the Hollywood Walk of Fame Ceremony. That hair and makeup was perfect and giving me "I Still Believe" moments, and the gown was a classic Mariah look. She looks so happy these days.

"#1 to Infinity" is back on Billboard 200 this week at number 181. I wonder if it will keep climbing now that she's back in Vegas and getting all this positive press.

One song and Niki (55,435)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
My one song would have to be hands down "Fantasy" with ODB. It is one of the absolute best dance songs ever made in history (up there with the likes of "Thriller" by MJ). The song is timeless and represents the cool, calm and fun Mariah that everyone loves (rather then the uber rich diva that only some of the GP love). I totally agree with you, Niki. When Mariah just does Mariah and lets her creativity flow without trying to achieve something specific, it's magic. I honestly feel we had the new "Fantasy"/"Heartbreaker" in "You Don't know What to Do". That song was meant to be a number one. Timeless, fun, with amazing and level vocals, your three year old would love it just as much as your grandma. It should have been the second single after #Beautiful and helped launch the album when it dropped. Imagine that. No "You're Mine" or "Thirsty". It had the same throwback but fresh sound that cared #Beautiful.

Mimi L and Heatbreaker (55,145)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada

I 150% agree with you, Heartbreaker is such an enduring song that never sounds dated no matter what the current pop-music trend is. It's absolutely in my top 3 of her #18's as well. I love it because I still hear "Heartbreaker" and "Fantasy" every weekend at the most popular clubs here in VanCity (straight and gay bars), and both song still pack the dance floor inspiring Mariah-waving-hand-singing across the club. The mash-up of the two versions in Vegas gave me life.

I agree, I'd love an update to the "Discography" tab. "Merry Christmas II You", "The Essential: Mariah Carey", "Me I Am Mariah" and "#1's to Infinity" have all been released since the last update, as well as the singles "Triumphant" and "Almost Home", and I'm such a lists and charts kinda dude.

I'm seeing Janet in Vancouver. I can't wait. We're sitting row 23 on the floor. Seeing her in Hawaii would be fantastic. I've been so incredibly blessed for concerts this year, I've christened it my "Year of Legends". 1. Mariah in Vegas 2. Tony Bennet and Lady Gaga in Vancouver 3. Shania Twain in Vancouver 4. Janet Jackson in Vancouver Also I saw Katy Perry this year, but not sure if she's of "legend" status or not yet haha.

What do we think happened? (54,284)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
What do we think causes Mariah and Morgan to have a falling out? They were so close for a long long time. Can someone with lots of insight give me a history of Morgan and Alison, as people? (What are they like as individuals, and why is there so much angst between these siblings?) I find it so interesting that they've given such inflammatory interviews about Mariah, but they never seem to gain traction in the media, despite the media going in hard on MC sometimes, like 2014, 2011, 2009, 2001/2, 1998. You'd think the media would eat it up.

Surpised by the songs people don't like (54,241)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
Reading through the songs people don't like from Mariah, I've been pretty surprised. I get some of them, but the most shocking dislikes to me are the following, because they are honestly some of my top Mariah picks of all time: 1. Don't Stop (Funkin' for Jamaica) - This is the type of song that I thought "Infinity" would be. (I love "Infinity", I'm talking about before it came out.) This is like the original Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars. That tickle of the piano, her perfect belt to whistle mid-way through the song. This could have been a top 10 hit in 2015. (But as Mariah has said, "Glitter was before it's time darhling.") 2. Babydoll: One of the sweetest, most romantic, sexy songs in Mariah catalogue. It's so atmospheric, and her desire is pouring over every note. 3. Last Night a DJ Saved my Life - The base in this song is amazing and unparalleled. I always throw this on at house parties, and it's guaranteed to get people off the couch and "shaking their A$$ out there". I love when MC works with DJ Clue, it's always fire. Great club track and love the tripped out/dirty club video. My three least favorite songs: 1. X-Girlfriend (Rainbow) 2. Camouflage (Me. I Am.) - I like the song construction, but the word "camouflage" is such an unattractive and awkward word. 3. All Alone In Love (Mariah Carey) - I feel like it's to similar to other tracks from this album, like "All in Your Mind" and "You need Me".

More talk show talk (53,725)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
Does anyone know if Mariah has plans to continue on the talk show circuit? What other shows would you like to see Mariah interview and perform on? (Talks shows, entertainment news shows, late night talk show, etc.) My list is: 1. Jimmy Fallon: They've always had a great vibe and done amazing interviews together consistently. 2. The View: I was sad Mariah didn't pay tribe to Barbara Walters during her final week on the show. I feel like her and Whoopi don't have a close relationship, but I'd love to see her interact with Rosie Perez and talk about their love of boxing. 3. Wendy Williams: Because these two women clearly have a very layered and complicated relationship and Mariah hasn't done her TV show, despite doing her radio show at least three times.

Talk show circuit and Billboards experience (53,724)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
I've missed Mariah on the talk show circuit and red carpets. She gives such fun and confident interviews when she's in "talk show mode". I've loved seeing her on Ellen, Kimmel, and Kelly & Michael. My favourite interview was by far Kimmel and my fave look was Kelly & Michael. The pink dress was fire. I attended the Billboard Awards red carpet, and people gasped and were stunned when Mariah stepped out of her car, all eyes and cameras were immediately on her. The reception was fantastic, so much love and respect for her from the crowed. It was an unforgettable experience watching all the stars on the Billboard red carpet, and then attending Mariah's concert that night. I'll never forget the rush of that day. I was particularly star struck by MC, Britney, Iggy Azealea, Kylie Jenner, Wiz Khalifa, Fifth Harmony, Taylor Swift and Nick Jonas.

BBMA starts at 5pm (53,369)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada

|
|
I can't wait to see MC this Sunday at Caesars Palace. Just to give peace of mind to everyone else attending Sunday's show. The Billboard Music Awards start at 5pm at the MGM Grand, and Mariah hits the Caesars Stage at 8pm. I bet she'll be pumped up and in excellent voice after her Billboard performance. It's been way too long since the most legendary singer around has attended such a major awards show. I hope she does red carpet before the show, she's always so chill and fun on the carpet. I can't wait for this week when "Infinity" gets the promo push it deserves. I love her description of "Infinity" in the L.A. Times article as a blend of "Vision of Love", "Touch My Body", "Obsessed", and "We Belong Together". I can hear all those songs in it, plus "Always Be my Baby". The best review of the song made the statement that the song is like the "crown jewel of her extensive catalogue". I kinda have a feeling she's going to be switching up her sound for her first full length proper Epic release, and "Infinity" is meant as a bookend to the past 25 years.

iTune charts? (52,452)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada

I love the whimsical fairytale vibe of "Infinity". It's so catchy, the lyrics are hilarious, and the song really sparkles. How's it doing on iTune charts around the world? What has it peaked at in the USA? In Canada it's peaked at 49 so far.
