Erratum: I meant to say Mariah, not patient. I work in health care, and I use that word a lot, hahahahahaha. Force of habit. Sorry.

Mimi Town Road / voice of the generation (90,322)
by John from USA

I hope this collab materializes. This will help reintroduce the patient to young listeners who are no longer used to hearing her voice. She should concentrate on doing features with artists that are still prominent and certified hitmakers of today. She did a similar strategy before TEOM, where small collabs, culminating in I Know What You Want with Busta that reintroduced her to the early to mid 2000s listeners. She was the voice of an entire generation for a while (90s) during which time her voice is literally everywhere and her songs almost automatically become hits just because she sang them.
Prior to the 90s, and for a while that was arguably Madonna and to a lesser extent Janet and Whitney in the 80s and early 90s. In the early 2000s it was Rihanna who can seemingly do no wrong, but even her radio/airplay and hit-making power seems to be waning now. Taylor Swift (and I squirm while typing this) is unfortunately, the voice of this generation. Her new song, You Need to Calm Down, sounds like trash to me, but is a hit just because its her voice and name that's stamped on it.
Knowing Mariah's and her team's penchant for not carrying out great ideas and suggestions from fans in messageboards like this though, this collab will probably not materialize. How many opportunities has Mariah and her team missed out on already?

Andrew's comment was an "analogy" - and one that is valid. There are legitimate concerns regarding transwomen competing in women's sports and blowing the competition (genetic and phenotypic females) out of the water. They may change their outside appearance and take sex hormones to appear more feminine, but it doesn't change physiologic and musculoskeletal advantages obtained from accrual of bone density and muscle mass that transwomen had years of advantage of before they transitioned.
Some women athletes in high school and college have even contested transwomen entering women's sports, because it actually ends up marginalizing genetic and phenotypic females from their own sports.
I once read a feminist even say that this is just another way a man can exert dominance on women, in reference to transwomen joining women's sports and beating the hell out of them in their own game.

Re: Katy Perry shading Mariah in 2014 (90,231) (90,240)

Yeah. I though about Mariah's comment about Madonna too. The difference with that was Mariah was responding in retaliation I guess, since Madonna was first to throw a punch by saying: Mariah is so stupid, she would rather die than be her. Katy's shade was pretty much unprovoked.

Katy Perry shading Mariah in 2014 (90,225)
by John from USA
| |
|
|
Looks like Katy Perry's single N.R.O. has stalled on the BB Hot 100 charts and will not even be a top 10 hit for her. This era is shaping up to be another flop for her after 2017's floptastic Witness CD.
I wonder how she feels now - just four albums later (not including her Christian album as Katy Hudson before she shed her good Christian girl image) - that she does not appear to have any longevity in music after all.
So interesting that she once referred to Mariah as "Well, she's fabulous for a throwback. Fabulous."
Too bad Katy Perry (and her catalogue of forgettable non-classic music) aren't even fabulous for a throwback.

If anything, it's Mariah that should be suing these opportunistic bacteria, especially Stellasshole. They took advantage of someone who has a mental health problem and became such a bad influence to her that it destroyed what was already an arguably fragile reputation and may have been the last and final breaks to Mariah's decelerating career.

The moment you free yourself from this victimhood mentality, the better your life will be. The Powers That Be can't enslave people of color like how it was done in the past anymore. Modern day slavery is being done now through enslaving the minds of minorities like us, making us think there is nothing that can be done to improve our lives, that we are all victims, that all we see in media is completely factual and unbiased.
Please look up the #walkaway campaign and see how many people - minorities and whites alike are realizing this.
You are not powerless. You are only a victim if you keep allowing yourself to be a victim in this narrative the left and the media want to paint your life in - past, present, and unless you do something about it, future.
If you care about yourself, if you truly care about your future, I beg you to do your own research and not just swallow everything the media wants you to see. You deserve better than being told you are a helpless victim all the time. It doesn't take much time to do your own research so you can finally walk away from the plantation that the left want to keep us all in.

SJWs appear to be permeating all facets of society now, that even a Mariah fansite messageboard is not spared. SJW/Identity Politics/Leftist Culture has now become a religion. White straight men are now unequivocally the enemy to these fanatics, and everything wrong in their lives is the White Man's fault. I am gay, an immigrant, and from a minority ethnic group, and came to the US as a refugee, but I do not dwell on it as my identity. I am more than that. I look at everybody as human beings and appreciate each individual for their individual actions and life choices. Keep your "religion" out of this site. These "perfect people" are utterly disgusting.

Article: Why veteran artists should stick to three new songs (89,201)
by John from USA
| |
|
|
I disagree with this article. This guy clearly doesn't get the sentiments of true Mariah fans. As someone who saw her Caution World Tour Concert, compared to her usual tours, I think it's actually quite refreshing to hear her sing songs she has not performed or rarely perform. This is true for both her newest album and her older/back catalogue. I looked around a bit during the concert here in Minneapolis. It was a good mix of younger and older people. Many knew even Mariah's newer songs from Caution, and even the older folk enjoyed the new music as well. I was surprised at how many people actually sang to the lyrics of 8th Grade. As much as Mariah's hitmaking days may be behind her, I think so long as she continues to make quality music that people can relate to, concertgoers will appreciate hearing them live.

Re: Saudi Arabia (87,703) and outrage culture (87,760)
by John from USA

I think people are constantly looking for the next thing to get disgusted, outraged, and scandalized about every single day. This is virtual heroism at its finest. We get upset, we post our disgust, and go back to our comfortable lives and not even do anything to change the problems in the world we are oh so disgusted, so outraged, and so scandalized about. Instant gratification to people who have not really felt real hardships in struggles in life. Must feel really good to be doing so, so, so many good things. All online, all virtual, and all behind our computers, and all in the comfort of our First World lives. Heroes we are all - behind our computers, that is. Sigh.

Shezz: I almost believed it, but the "whistle" wasn't a real one and the melisma was not Mariah-esque. I was gonna say "oh, this is something different from Mariah, and interesting shift at the climax from the chord progression of the first part of the song" until someone commenting mentioned that it was actually the ending part of Christina's song "Unless It's With You". Lols.

Mariah the "actor" and "artist in the MTV era" (84,194)
by John from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah is a woman of contradictions. For someone who has a strong desire to act and be in motion pictures, she complains about having to be "de-glamorized" for her role in Precious. Don't real "actors" relish the idea to transform into another person and be transported to a different world than their own in a movie? Similarly in music videos, she seems content in music videos where she just looks sexy, shows her ample cleavage (we know you have boobies, Mimi), and cavorts/humps different furniture. Wouldn't someone who has "acting aspirations" actually strive to have more challenging and engaging videos with actual story lines where she could have the opportunity to "act"? Odd indeed.

I agree with you, Andrew. I inferred the same from the post. People give you a lot of flack for being critical of Mariah, but it's pretty obvious, on every single one of your posts, that you are a genuine fan of Mariah.

New album title (82,059) (82,064)
by John from USA

"Because You Don't See It". is my album title suggestion. It's a phrase that means something to me (not necessarily good, not necessarily bad either), and I think may mean something to Mariah too, given her current situation. That is all.

Did Mariah betray her gift or did it betray her? (80,552)
by John from USA
| |
|
|
After all this hullabaloo about Mariah being back in the studio with a wine glass in hand, I just came across an interview circa Butterfly CD era, where she says she has to try to take care of her voice, but also admits how she fancies herself a drink: "I like myself a little glass of champagne every now and then." Makes me wonder: did Mariah betray her gift or does she feel betrayed by her gift? When she was just starting, she used to talk about her voice and her songwriting as gifts that brought her new opportunities in life. Makes me wonder if she just stopped caring or this is her reacting to how her gift abandoned her. She used to be harder on herself too, like when she would comment on how she would've sung a song differently if she had a chance to because she wasn't satisfied with the vocals. I just wonder, because there have been times, if she feels she has something to prove and discipline herself enough (or when forced to, such as when she was pregnant), her voice does seem stronger.

Agree. Exciting times indeed. I hope that along with the new packaging comes some high end, well-directed music videos with actual concepts/storylines and not just Mariah doing "look at me be sexy" poses nonstop. If the new team can convince Mariah to do this, then I would be one happy lamb.

NYE performance (80,215)
by John from USA
| |
|
|
Relieved it went well. In this live performance, Mariah still had shades of her early 90s tone in some of her belts and runs, which gives me hope that if she takes it seriously, and starts taking care of her voice and value it more instead of her love for the bubbly, we may see another "Emancipation" album. As for her diva antics being the first internet meme of 2018, I say better be associated with tea than alcohol. Everyone: send Mimi some tea.
