Tommy forced her to sing? (102,293)
by Chicago Lamb from USA
| |
|
|
All Mariah ever wanted was to be a singer. The genesis of her song writing capability is that she wanted to sing her own songs, not someone else's. Singer/songwriter. She wasn't forced to sing. Her dreams came true with Tommy, he believed in her talent and she believed him. That is until she found him possessive and controlling, but then she was too deeply entangled. Too young to navigate her own voice in their personal relationship. Nobody ever talks about/speculates the songs that may have been written about Tommy from the first 3 albums. When she loved him.

The real reason for no respect (102,291)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
If you listen to early producers on her album, Narada Michael Walden for example, MC was a perfectionist. She re recorded I Don't Wanna Cry one hundred times until it was perfect. The audience has never seen a showy performance the likes of Whitney, Patti or Christina. And y'all keep talking about the nuances of her voice but to be honest the public doesn't care. Look how nervous she was singing Vision of Love at the 91 Grammys. Fixing her dress constantly. A flat run on "love". She had an amazing voice but didn't know what to do with it. Live performances make you and the only time I've ever seen MC sing beyond what the record entailed was Tokyo Dome in 96. As a songwriter she was unmatched. A friend of mine recently said, she was probably better off as a songwriter producer and Tommy forced her to be a singing star.

Chaka Khan (102,286)
by Chicago Lamb from USA
| |
|
|
We nor Mariah should take this personally. Chaka speaks her mind, and can shade left and right. It's Chaka's own little way to keep herself relevant. Not saying it's the correct way to express one's self, but that's Chaka. Mariah and others on the "list" are above it. Literally and figuratively. I love Chaka anyway.

Chaka Khan (102,284)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|

No matter how much money you put on an artist they can't have continuous success if they didn't have an X factor. And Mariah has it. She's not only a remarkable vocalist, she's a songwriter, she had an elusive persona, a sexy girl next door persona, and an outsider looking in persona. There's more to Mariah Carey than her voice, she was the whole package and that's why Tommy's investment paid off. Mariah saw a low phase after Tommy only because he was actively sabotaging her. She came back like a Phoenix with TEOM. How many artists can claim to still be as relevant as her after 3 decades. Haters (like Miss Chaka) can attribute her success to men and labels but Mariah is Mariah because she was born to be a star. Like in Loverboy Mariah should live the motto of "hate on me as much as you want to, you can't do what the [...] I do, bishes be emulating me dailyyyy".

Super Bowl (102,232)
by Todd from Sydney, Australia
| |

I am not sure Mariah would be all that interested in doing a Superbowl half time show - the workload required would be massive. I think it would be awesome if they did a "Divas Live" type setup with a bunch of 'divas' sharing the stage - Mariah, Ariana, Madonna, Celine, Beyonce, Gaga, Whitney on the screen - I'd tune in.

Oh Santa with Ari & J Hud (101,738)
by Chicago Lamb from USA
| |
|
|
These days, artists are rarely in the studio at the same time to lay their vocal tracks. For example Mariah and Whitney did their tracks separately then met in the studio for the video promo. However music videos require the artist to be assembled in the same room. I'm sure there have been instances where artists have been "green screened" in.

No, I don't think so because I purchased the digital tracks from the special at FYE's Mix and Burn. And Oh Santa was not an option to select to create my CD. I really think the vocals were recorded separately piecing the vocals together to film the video. Just my thoughts.

This is the business of showbiz. If you love Mariah then you want her to make an impact with every release, promo, merchandise, every opportunity. She signed up for it, and we signed up for it. So let's not start checking Mariah's "morals" in the name of entertainment. Here's to another #1 and a sold-out Christmas tour.

Making Christmas as a money hog. I get but please review thy morals. Everybody needs money but not to the extent of monetizing the season. Is AIWFCIY not enough earning for her? It's so sad that she keeps on running her mouth that she embodies the true spirit of Christmas but I guess it's a different spirit after all.

Re: What MC albums have you never bought? (101,441) (101,442)

All of them, singles included in CD form. I have a few hundred although stopped buying some years ago. I'd like to sell the whole lot, vinyls, magazines included. Ralphie Rosario is a friend of mine in Chicago, and he gave me all his Mariah vinyls. Some records and CD's never even opened. I think I have one with LTT on the CD but not on the sleeve track list. And if course I have a signed copy of Butterfly by Mariah herself among many gems.

Maybe it was Madonna who stipulated "don't mention Mariah if you're going to use my song". Just a theory. I hope perhaps Bey has something planned with Mariah. I like Renaissance, I think it's great if you like Ballroom House.

Re: Tommy's Mariah (part 3) breaking down (99,823) (99,825)
by Chicago Lamb from USA

I hope most of you guys realize that the Mariah we know and love today is a product of a symbiotic relationship with Tommy. Without a crystal ball, we just don't know who Mariah would be without having worked so closely with him. When you work/live with the boss, there are things learned about "the business" that give you an incredible edge. Obviously this knowledge was beneficial in creating longevity in the industry. Boo-hoo, it was a tough marriage. Mariah was an adult walking into the relationship and has her reservations and regrets. Frankly, I wouldn't change history between them one bit. Mariah love all day.

This column is an absolute must read for old lambs, new lambs, and aspiring lambs alike. I'll keep saying it with every MC installment. Young Mariah wanted to be a radio artist. She wanted to hear her songs on the radio. Never did she imagine the blockbuster success she'd accomplish.

I think 2-3 very minor rhinoplasties have had an impact on her tone to some extent. But Jamie, I agree that her technical approach changed from album to album, opting for yes, a more relaxed delivery leading all the way to Rainbow.

You guys are looking at "The Magic Continues" wrong. Think of it as a promo for FILAC. That's one hell of a platform to promote a new song, don't you think? And don't be surprised if Mariah shows up every year on Apple+ or an equivalent to promote a new song. Star power. BPCH wasn't bad at all with the band and production. Ya'll need to stop obsessing over her tone. Happy holidays everyone!

The Meaning of MC audio book (98,634)
by Chicago Lamb from USA
| |
|
|
Does anyone here enjoy listening to the audio book of TMOMC as much as me? It's great on a plane where I've listened through it at least 3 times now. With each listen I get something new. For example, she's really warm when it comes to Brenda K. Star. What an honor to be a part of Mariah's legacy. Anyway, Mariah's soothing voice is great, even when I dose off for a nap. It's like listening to your favorite album over and over.

Re: Music Box tour footage NYC (98,565) (98,566)
by Chicago Lamb from USA

|
As a young music consumer in the 90's I, like legions of fans, had to hear Mariah sing everything and anything. So when re-recorded remixes were released, live performances were VHS'd, I collected and collected. I probably own 250+ Mariah releases on CD/vinyl. Thirty years into her career, the collectable and "Have to Hear" moments aren't as abundant. That's what makes this concert footage so special. Takes me back to a time when her voice was high, powerful and pristine. Normally I won't listen to a whole bootleg concert, but this was irresistible.

The Meaning of Mariah audio book error (98,293)
by Chicago Lamb from USA
| |
|
|
So, I'm listening to the audio book for the 2nd time and I noticed an error. Mariah talks about her #1 song [I'll be there], but refers to it as her "5th #1", which as any good lamb knows it's her 6th. Has anyone else noticed if the book mirrors the same error? How could Mariah herself have made such a mistake?
