The elephant in the room (106,109)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|

Both Diddy and R Kelly are creative [musical geniuses] at what they did and how they affected the music industry and changed its landscape forever, [fact]. That said it doesn't excuse the allegations if true. However, artists like Mariah and a bevy more of others they worked with shouldn't be dragged into the mess - that's business and I highly doubt they were aware of these [men's] "extracurricular activities" so to speak in their personal lives. Like the saying goes "[you] don't mix [business] with [pleasure]". History also has proven that [geniuses] tend to fight demons in private and have a dark version of themselves always hidden behind the scenes, a [ying-yang]', Jerkyl [sic] and Hyde scenario.

Ok so everyone is innocent until proven guilty. I'm asking this question not for your opinion about if Diddy is guilty or innocent, but I'm curious if the allegations about illegal activity turns out to be true (particularly the traffic allegation), how do you think that would affect some of Mariah's music?
I know some people won't even listen to BGK from Memoirs because of RK, but songs like Honey and the remix has Diddy all over it, and those are big popular songs in her discography. I ask this question out of curiosity, no answer is wrong or incorrect, everyone is entitled to their views and opinions.

So I saw this post on Twitter saying her new single is gonna drop on Friday entitled "Panic The City". Any of you guys see something similar to this? It was by one of her "Lambies" accounts that may have insider information.

Oh wow. That's major if it's true. Mariah may have something up her sleeve after all. Maybe a re-release with a brand new extra disc (I'm being greedy lol) of new songs that never made the final cut - you know she did write and record that album the whole year through 2004. I remember Mariah was missing in action all year, then materialized with that silvery metallic blue dress at an event at the end of the year. Also her song with Jadakiss was about the only thing she featured in and had her sounding well rested and in form again.

Photoshoot (105,897)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Markus Klinko, the photographer behind Mariah's iconic TEOM shoot, has been hired by her again to do a new shoot for her Vegas residency. Apparently the photos will be inspired by TEOM photos. Now this has got me thinking, why is that the case? She's been recycling old TEOM photos for it and it's just. Month away why is she now doing a new shoot? Could she be using it for MC16? Fun fact for those who don't know, Mariah called Markus in the middle of the night insisting on him doing the shoot and asking for an exact pose he saw from his work, here's the inspiration photo. He didn't want to recreate the same pose so they landed on something similar.

I only pointed out the obvious, and suggested a solution. I do applaud fans such as Edward who call it as it is, without mincing words unapologetically. Now if only Mariah had even just one person on her team, that was bold enough to mirror the obvious observation.

While you may not be a fashion expert, you still hold opinions on fashion, just as others may have opinions on medical matters. As I mentioned, these are simply opinions. While I might disagree with your opinion, I would never discourage you from expressing it.
One need not be an expert to recognize when Mariah doesn't look great in certain outfits, just as one need not be a doctor to sense when something is amiss health-wise with someone. Speculation is something we can all engage in, regardless of our expertise.

And yes, Mariah's sound (105,548)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|

The new song has been well received, which is good. However I have to be honest here, Mariah does not sound good on recording anymore. She can mask it in live performances, but in the studio, the microphone picks it up ever so easily - that metallic edge in her voice has gotten gravelly and more jarring as she has aged and her mid register is virtually impossible to access without pushing thus the hefty "shouty" belts, her singing now lacks a mix and fluidity key elements for the type of singer she is, with a repertoire that relies heavily on agility and the ease of singing she used to have. I know she's very much aware of this and this message is not in any means or way trying to disrespect her, or make fun of her, this comes from a place of absolute love. I respect the work she's done in music and acknowledge her contributions. However I do feel it's time Mariah considered vocal nodule surgery. At this point they have become obstructive and she cannot sing through or around them like she used to ("My All" comes to mind, you can really hear it on that song). I wish her only the best and a successful surgery should she choose to.

Yes, And? remix (105,477)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
At first [listen], it's more "umph" than the original and it's been rewritten by Carey of course (I [love] her verse), I'm not excited about the song because it's not melodic enough and honestly, an uptempo isn't what I look forward to hearing from these two very talented ladies, an intentional ballad where they let loose with a flurry of high notes, harmonies and layered vocals for days, just a [euphoric] experience is more in line with what I want, expect and I'm on the look out for (fingers crossed). This remix however is gonna do what it's meant to do - breathe new life in this song.

I do hope so. That album is everything to [me] and her true Lambily and Mariah [knows] this. This is so cool (Eric leave that [caps] alone). "The Emancipation of Mimi" technically turns 20 this year since she actually recorded it in 2004. I want a rerelease with a double set Compact Disc of all the records that didn't make the final cut, she recorded a lot of songs that did not make the final cut. Mariah, [you rock] big time This 2024 is about to be everything 1994, 2004 and 2014 weren't for this lovely [lady]. Epic and [defining].

Really? I think there won't be a new album. MC makes money with shows, not with a new album. Maybe we'll get a new version of TEOM with unreleased songs like "When I feel it". It's always the same, every time you think there's something great new coming, there's just a perfume or some old stuff in a new dress.

That Mariah Carey approval (105,275)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
Her star power is still very strong, most people who watched the show acknowledged that there's something about Mariah that just gives and brings about validation, because she's a true [artist] and a heavily [gifted] one at that. (No coincidence she started off the show.) And this year's event seemed for lack of a better word, "complete" just by having her presence there. Maybe the recording academy has seen the error in its ways, who knows, but like Trevor pointed out 34 nominations and only 5 wins for an artist of her caliber is unacceptable and just absurd. Meanwhile Beyoncé (and this isn't shade to Bey because I [love] her as well) is the most awarded artist in the industry, whose body of work pales in comparison to Mariah's is just laughable. I know for a fact the ratings would be up, better than previous years this year. .

Recording Academy Global Impact Award (105,203)
by Terna from Nigeria

Mariah should pay them absolute dust. That award show is obsolete in 2024 and Mariah does not need them to acknowledge what the whole world already knows, that indeed she has had powerful lasting impact on the whole world, even in territories where English is a secondary language. It is plain to see that she has triumphed - a true winner, after that 1996 incident the world has not forgotten. If you ask me, that "foiling" was the beginning of the end of this Grammys show. How the mighty have fallen.

10 Years prior (104,997)
by Terna from Nigeria

I think this year 2024 is when Mariah is going to release the album she was, or wanted to release 10 years ago, that will put her back as a mainstream artist with massive hits and a reintroduction to the younger generation. For us that were here back then, there was a totally different tracklist going around, that ended up being very different from what we got when MIAM was released, with a host of songs missing. I always got the notion it was a "substitute" or "decoy" so to speak, that she dropped in 2014. Something just felt incomplete about it, however the album has aged well overtime. It's crazy how Mariah's Spotify follower count jumped this season 23 million to 60 million plus territory.

Ugh. What exactly are you on? "Babydoll" is one of Mariah's most hard hitting, most lyrically satisfying, most expressive songs she's ever written especially in the R&B genre. And I dare say, it also is Butterfly's core and backbone. Tf?

Hmmm. Babydoll was a bit of snoozefest to be honest, with Mariah mumbling all the way through and the dated production. I'd rather she ditch the collabs and focus on constructing melodic, captivating songs like she did in the glory days.

Whack and [clichéd] version of Alicia Key's "Songs in A Minor". Just [no] please. I want a one or two word title that speaks volumes without saying much, but reflective of where she is at currently in her life. She's got this love and glow that has been missing since the early 90's and I want the album title, its artwork and content to reflect this clearly. I trust and know she would come up with something excellent.

Honestly, I really don't care for her singing. She lacks precision, and everything is just merged/slurred and glides together all the time, and then there's that diction problem. Ariana has a pleasant tone but needs to know that in professional singing, intent and clarity is key. Staccato, crisp and intentional phrasing while singing with effort is what makes professional singing, not this karaoke slurred mess she always seems to conjure up. That's the difference between her and Mariah Carey, well one of the many differences.

This is the "leak" I was talking about. Ariana has an amazing voice and is talented for sure but I think she lacks something Mariah has. Mariah has that unique X factor to her voice and because of the fact that she writes her own songs, Mariah's songs have the raw personal feel something I don't find from Ariana. Also for the whistles Ariana uses it just because she can, Mariah uses it more artistically, she uses it like background music, she uses it to express emotions, she uses it for words (like the on and on for "Bliss"). Mariah beautiful incorporates her whistles. Mariah has that distinct raspy and buttery voice too that feels so raw and full of emotions. That's why she's often imitated never duplicated.

Mine was pretty diverse with only 1 Mariah song in the list. However, she was still the most listened to Artist for 2023. 1. Gabrielle - Under my Skin 2. Tanya Blount - For All The Right Reasons 3. Sza - Good Days & Master Kg - Jerusalema (tied) 4. Mariah Carey - The Art Of Letting Go 5. Chanté Moore - Fresh Love / Mathey - Ameyatchi I used Spotify heavily in 2023 but decided to switch to a different music service in 2024. Their library is missing multiple records that are absolute favorites of mine, or they keep deleting songs off their platform that may be in one's playlists.

I don't know how to put this, so I'm just gonna say it direct. Mariah and the Grammys are like water and fire. They don't mix. You really just have to go back in time to every time she was nominated, to see clearly that, that Academy has something against her and the feeling's reciprocal from her to them too. Lol - remember that clip when she spoke of "When they're ready to give her Grammys, they would come see her. Oh boy."

Right. She doesn't need Stella back. What MC needs is a songwriter/producer partner like Jack Antonoff or Ilya. Both of them have done wonders for Taylor's and Ariana's careers. He or she has to understand MC as the legendary artist that she is today. I would love to see Robert Glasper or James Poyser become her songwriting partners. If she wants any Grammy nominations or awards in 2024, she is going to have to step out of her comfort zone. A duet with Howard Hewett or Peabo Bryson would set the R&B world on fire and garner her the recognition from the Grammy committee that she has never received.
