About Norman from USA:
I've been a fan of Mariah's since I first heard Love Takes Time (I don't know how I initially missed Vision of Love), and I haven't looked back since. Her music has been there for me in my darkest hours to help lift out of the depths of whatever I was going through at the time. She's my all time favorite female singer, even though I love many others.
It's funny to think of her music as a "friend", but it's always been there for me. I love her talent.
" As we drifted to another place and time And the feeling was so heady and sublime As I lost my heart to you There in the dark Underneath the stars"

As an example of how she'd sound in something in that realm. Merely an example. You don't have to like it or want it. It was an example.

I'm confused what people are asking, do you want Mariah to have another [hit] that resonates with young listeners, or try and reignite the fire that was the holy trinity of the '90's (Mariah, Whitney, Celine)? I want Mariah to have a smash dance hit that breaks her mold. We talk about how [Charmbracelet] walked, so TEOM could sprint. I have the same feeling about Caution. it was a precursor to what we will experience next.
On a different note, who said "no one expected Mariah to speak like that" in regard to GTFO? GTFO, and the [remix] she's on for Unforgettable ("Sip on this drink 'till I'm [censored] up"), even "Clown" from [Charmbracelet] ("I should've never given you my [censored] two way") she sings the "f-word". Mariah's success is based on her versatility. Christmas to f-bombs. I personally love it.

Nowhere did I suggest she try AI or anything of the sort. It was merely an observation and thought on a new course of action. This song is contemporary R&B and electro pop which could be fresh for her and open her sound back to some pop. Sheesh.

I liked the performance up until the solo whistle. Mistakes happen and it was live, but not good.
I'm thinking that maybe the stiffness might be due to medication of some sort - maybe bipolar meds? Cognitively she's fine, but the stiffness is the odd part. She's obviously not a dancer but she knows how to cover a stage, so it's not a lack of experience. At the Hollywood Bowl night I went to while still stiff, she moved around a lot better - and by herself mostly - so I'm puzzled. It could also be a back thing. Oddly enough, the energy in the room was fire.

I'm quite curious to read everyone's opinion. For 2024, would you rather have Mariah releases a 10 to 12 tract Rarities 2 album, where half of the songs are never before heard songs, or would you rather see here release a brand new 10 to 12 song studio album?

Never sung in her life (104,164)
by Norman from USA

|
I believe his point is that you guys regurtitate the same complaints every other week and think you're going to change something. It's been how long since Daydream? And you all swear you're the only ones who like her because you tear her to shreds.
And, no, asking a singer to sing isn't a big ask, but expecting 1995 or 2000s vocals isn't going to happen no matter the critique.
Being at the Hollywood Bowl nights was such a great experience as a fan because it packed with people who were there to have fun and enjoy the show. And enjoy it we did. It was a blast to interact with people who had never seen in concert and enjoyed what was offered and how it was it offered. The energy when she did a medly of part of her catalog was at fever pitch. It was heartening. And as people left, you could hear everyone discussing her voice and how well she did and wishing more of this from her.
Having a discussion about the status of her current voice is one thing, and she's not above reproach, but enough with same critical drag and calling it love. No need to gaslight. We've read them for years and know abusive language when we read it.
It's okay to only like her 90s stuff and nothing past that. Admit it and move on - you'll all be happier. But no need to constantly bash every effing move and call it constructive when all it is, is tearing things down.
Oh, and before anyone comes out with pejorative "yass queen" rebuttal, no one is asking for you to be that. No one. You can have fun on the board without punching down. It's reductive.
Now, joy to the effing world or whatever. We mostly love everyone.

Same. Daydream has so many faves and one of my top 3 Favorites of hers: Looking In. I recently read a few tweets where people expressed preferring songs like Thirsty, A No No, Caution, and the such over songs like Fantasy, ABMB, The Roof, and WBT. I know it's all subjective, but those fans confuse me. Daydream is such a vibe and songs like UTS, IAF, and MA deserve so much more general recognition.

I hadn't really pay much attention, but Mariah really doesn't seem to care much about Daydream. She acts as if it doesn't exist. She very rarely even mentions it. Daydream is very special to me because it's the album that drew me back to her after listening to Open Arms. I think she got so invested in it that her losing all her Grammy nominations made her block it out.

My comment was out of concern for Mariah and nothing else. As a dedicated lamb from the beginning, I can be concerned and question things as I see them. You choose to follow blindly and that's ok for you. I want the best for MC and if something doesn't look right, I will speak on it. With that being said, I hope everything is ok and that we get to see more of her healthy soon.

Andrew - stop this. Stop this at once. You're making too much sense and I will not tolerate agreeing with you for one more second. What will the neighbors think? For all that is holy, I insist you not utter another word of reason. It's as homophobic as Bill and Rob flirting with poor photogenic Jamie. I pray Jamie hath the fortitude to Make it Through the Rain and take even more flattering pictures. After all, we all deserve a Right to Dream (Randy's Theme). I bid you farewell now before Randy, Bill, Rob, and Jaime wonder why they're in it catching strays. And whilst I go, please remember that should you not heed my plea, I will hunt you down. I hope you know this one - I see you up there.

Discounted singles (103,228)
by Andrew from the UK
| |
|
|
I must be missing something here. "Discounted singles"? My first question would be: "Discounted from what?" People can sell whatever they want at any price in a free market society. As on a bell curve, items are sold at the lowest price that will shift more units that at a higher price that will shift less if it would make more profit to do so? I don't recall in Woolworths of Tower Record or any other music store in the UK at the time there being a standard fixed price for a single. And, in any case, my second question would be: "Who, in their right mind, buys a hardcopy single because of the price? "Way back when, back in the day, all songs were on the radio and music television channels before they hit the music stores. I had rarely gone to one not knowing what the new single releases sounded like - or, if I had, I would generally (elongated) know what the single was going to sound like dependent on the artist. It's not as if people bought My All not knowing what a Mariah Carey ballad would sound like. The argument is absurd.
My third question would be: "If it were so easy to get to No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 by discounting a hardcopy single in the music stores - that is, if the high charting led to further purchases at full price, even: why didn't everyone do it?" There is something so dubious about this "Mariah only got No.1 because of discounted singles" argument that it smacks of disingenuousness somewhere.
Unless I am gravely mistaken. But the trouble with entertaining Mariah critics in this talking point is that they're arguing something that can never be won and so they can chip away at her with it. But it can be argued on a test of objective reasonability. Yes, I imagine some persons did throw it into their baskets because it was cheap, as some people are so inclined - but so inclined in *those* numbers? I would tell anyone suggesting that as a reality to not waste my time.

Who is she kidding? (102,883)
by Norman from USA
| |
|
|
That's a complete load of bull. Was she late 90s Mariah or even mid-2000s? No. But she didn't come off as drunk nor as a drag act. She was present, engaging, fun, and she sounded good singing.
I was honestly expecting something along the lines of the Lovers and Friends show in Vegas but was pleasantly surprised how different it was in tone and the health of her voice.
On the majority of the remixes, the backing track did the heavy lifting for sure. There was no hiding that. She did sing a lot of the slower songs, however. And the My All/Mi Todo moment was chef's kiss. As was the Rainbow interlude.
I could've done without the numerous backstage moments that interrupted the flow of the show, but she always does that.

Forbes richest women, no Mariah (102,856)
by Norman from USA

Bill, Mariah's worldwide sales speak for themselves. She might not have been big in the UK, but the UK isn't even the 2nd biggest music market - that would be Japan, where Mariah's their biggest-selling foreign act. She's also big in Asia as a whole - you know, where the vast majority of the world's population is. Sure, it's not Europe, I'll grant you that. But perhaps she's fine without the oonts oonts aficionados? Who's to say?
Would I like something other than a yearly Christmas resurgence, and a couple a high notes on a TikTok and "I see you up there" from a performance? Of course. Need I drag her through the mud to fasten on a badge as a true and non-delusional fan ad nauseum? No.
And other making headlines for horrendous nips and tucks, what current accomplishments do you speak of when lauding your worldwide artist?
All the best.

AI Mariah Carey songs (102,635)
by Edward from USA
| |
|

I asked AI to write song as Mariah Carey would write it, and here's what it came up with.
Verse 1: I never thought that love could be so real, But then you walked into my life, and now I feel, A passion deep inside my soul, A flame that burns beyond control.
Chorus: Cause you're the one that I need, You're the air that I breathe, And I can't imagine living without you, Cause you're my forever love, And I thank the stars above, For bringing me to you, my love.
Verse 2: With every breath I take, I feel your love, It's like a melody, that's sung from up above, And every time I look into your eyes, I'm lost in a world, where love never dies.
Chorus: Cause you're the one that I need, You're the air that I breathe, And I can't imagine living without you, Cause you're my forever love, And I thank the stars above, For bringing me to you, my love.
Bridge: And in this world, that's so full of pain, You are the sunshine, that breaks through the rain, And I'll never let you go, my heart's in your hands, Cause baby, you're the one that I need, the only one that understands.
Chorus: Cause you're the one that I need, You're the air that I breathe, And I can't imagine living without you, Cause you're my forever love, And I thank the stars above, For bringing me to you, my love.
Outro: Cause baby, you're my forever love, And I'll thank the stars above, For giving me you, my love.
