Crowded rooms, so alone (54,283) by Randy from USA If anything, this whole Morgan debacle shows that MC is truly alone. Look at her brother and sister. Her and her mother don't seem that close. Her husband is gone and all that's left is her kids. I feel bad about her family situation. And you can't make fans and backup singers your family. They'll turn on you quicker than family. No new music for awhile? (53,984) by Randy from USA In all of our petty arguing over nothing, have we not noticed that the first thing MC did on Epic was a compilation album and now they are re-releasing Merry Christmas and then LA Reid talked about a covers album? We waited 5 years for MIAMTEC and unlike many of you, I wasn't impressed. Do you think LA Reid is nervous about creating a studio album and therefore hesitating with all this other "stuff"? Mariah live (53,710) by Randy from USA She's singing. Is it perfect? No. But she has been looking professional and less nervous than usual. On Live with Kelly & Michael she sounds amazing. Now I could nit pick a lot by saying she's singing along with her pre-recorded voice or the jury's still out whether she's singing that one dramatic part on Infinity where the music is quiet. But she's really working to restore our confidence in her vocal abilities and I'm impressed and am holding my head up higher as a fan. (Saturday 23 May 2015; 13:40)

BBMA (53,439) by Randy from USA I gotta give it to MC. That's how you perform when you've lost your voice. No one knows whether you were singing or not because there are so many voices in the background between your singers and you and your prerecorded track lol. I think she sang 75% of it live. Notice there was a break between the full voice belt and the false note but her mouth was still open, yet only I would nitpick. To the general public she sounded aamzing and I guess that's all that mattered. (Monday 18 May 2015; 3:06)

This is a futile undertaking (53,403) by Randy from USA Abraham, Jake, B and whoever else, I could invite all of you over my house for a day of YouTube year to year comparisons. Then it would make sense. It's difficult to argue live performances when you're confined to words. On a side note why was MC looking at the audience with a help me look instead of outsinging Whitney B? I'm giving up on this argument because I can't defend my position as I would like due to the limitations of this board and our distances. But if you are ever in Atlanta, I could show you what I mean. I'm not one to offer generalizing, sweeping statements if I don't have evidence. I'm going to just wait and see what happens this week. P.S. I am glad you all live in cities and have friends that are all pro MC and don't ridicule her when she sounds bad. As an MC fan things are hard for me in the A. (Sunday 17 May 2015; 1:59)

Abraham and others (53,392) by Randy from USA Whitney's voice after 94 was shot? Look at her Divas 99 or Arista's 25th performances. And let's not forget she murdered MC at the Oscars in 99. Crackhead or not, I wasn't cringing whenever she stepped on stage. And the only reason I hold out any hope for MC live anymore is because of the Jimmy Fallon impromptu performance which shut me and some of my MC bashing friends up. So let me ask you this, what is it that whenever on TV she can't do what she can do in front of fans alone? Because you got me hot. Name one performance where she got a standing ovation and there was no lip syncing? Have you noticed that "My All" and "Through the Rain" have no background singers on the song but whenever she performed either she had a wall of background singers? MC is many great things: songwriter, vocalist on wax, beautiful, classy, smart, great producer. Where she lacks for a diva of her caliber is "live performer at least where it counts. Watch what happens this week at Billboard, Jimmy and Kelly and Michael and we will see. I want to be wrong here but if history is on my side, I don't think I will be. (Saturday 16 May 2015; 22:28)

Now sit with a Whitney fan or a Patti fan and go performance for performance on YouTube and watch how underwhelming MC is live. The first time I did it I was very embarrassed. I think sometimes as fan we tend to be unaware because of our intense love for our artist. (Saturday 16 May 2015; 20:20)

Nervous (53,378) by Randy from USA I don't care how well MC has done at her concerts, there's something about awards shows where she falls apart or lip syncs. Especially if she opens. As usual, I hope this time will be different. But it almost never is. And before you all attack me, remember that out of all my friends, I am the only MC fan. Everyone else are Patti Labelle or Whitney Houston fans who were masters of live performing. Whereas their music lacked. MC is a master of music but live performances, mostly after Oprah 1997 except in a few cases, have been mediocre at best. (Saturday 16 May 2015; 17:05)

Torn (53,121) by Randy from USA I do feel that some fans are overly critical of everything MC has done. At some point I was going to post we maybe need to be careful what we post before MC dips on us like Janet did her fans. MC doesn't have to sell another record, record another song or anything else because she is set for life. However, it pains me the amount of defending I have to do for her with the general public and on diva forums and groups. I wish some of you could spend some time going through live performances with her lipping the difficult parts of songs to sing although she struggled through the verses. It's not that I want MC to quit or anything like that, I just want her to sing songs 100% live using what she can do now. I like Infinity now that it's grown on me but again my first thought is you can't sing your old repertoire because of vocal changes and now you release more music you won't be able to sing live? I do think that lip syncing is a form of cheating when in the real world we all can't cheat on our jobs and we don't even get a fraction of what she gets as a paycheck. And yet it's us who has made her wealthy. But then someone on here said she can't sing lower whether it's old songs or new because then she'll be criticized for that. That's true. I don't know what to feel anymore. Being a MC fan is hard. What do you all think? (Friday 8 May 2015; 23:00)

So it's all about the whistle register (52,978) by Randy from USA So everyone is claiming that MCs back because she can hit whistle register notes? Is that what her voice is and has come down to now? What happened to not wanting that to become a gimmick (she said that in 1991). I did like the Hero high full belt voice note. Listen, I think it's wonderful Mariah has that octave. I just hate that people use that as her being able to sing. If that was what it took to be a singer, then Chante Moore, Rachelle Farrell and Shanice would be superstars. When they post high full voice belt notes that are live, then I can hold my head up high again as a Mariah Carey fan. (Thursday 7 May 2015; 4:32)

Giselle (52,722) by Randy from USA You hit it right on the head. Thank you. I have to wonder if some of these fans live in lamb tent cities, in lamb countries on planet lamb? As soon as I breathe MC's name around friends, students, family: I get snickers and giggles. "She can't sing no more" is the #1 answer I get. All of my gay friends have their favorite divas, and when I bring MC into the conversation I get: "She has the most amazing studio voice of any singer." "Her backing tracks are amazing." The fans constantly on here want to know why she doesn't get tributes like other legends and the truth is: there is a large segment of the population that think she can't sing. Am I the only one nervous every time she makes an appearance on television and has to sing? I mean that is her profession: singer, right? MTV did name her the greatest singer of the past 22 years, right? And listen I'm tired of the you can't hold on to your voice for 25 years excuse. Patti Labelle, Gladys Knight, Tina Turner all have semblances of their original magic. I'm tired of earpieces, sick, personal drama excuses. If we are going through a divorce, we still have to perform at our jobs right? Besides I never asked for MC to sound like she used to. I asked for her to sing live and sing well. If you can't sing it live you shouldn't put it on wax. And no, showcasing only your whistle register doesn't mean you can still sing. Remember when MC said in the early 90s she didn't want that to become a gimmick. My, how times have changed. (Saturday 2 May 2015; 15:01)

Nate from Boyz II Men / the voice (52,681) by Randy from USA Nate is totally wrong for his comments in public. My problem is that the voice was a problem long before the Rockefeller performance. That was just when the masses found out. I'm a school teacher in GA and when I ask choir students what they think of MC: "She's great, she just can't sing anymore." I want her to address/fix it. Sing songs in current range without those studio created high full voice belts she can't do live. And what's the end game? I was let down when I heard Infinity, not because of the lyric or production like some of you but because she has no chance in hell of singing that live without smoke and mirrors. And for those stuck in the sand with the "bad vocal day", "sick", "earpiece" excuses, I challenge you to do this: watch her sing 1995 "Vision of Love" at Madison Square Garden and then watch her sing "Vision of Love" 1998 at "The View". That's not a bad day. They don't even sound like the same woman. (Friday 1 May 2015; 19:28)

Marissa / growing (52,641) by Randy from USA Marissa, you were articulate and on point about the voice. What will destroy her legacy more than anything is this lip syncing the difficult parts of songs and being mediocre on television because what is she known for? And during her comeback didn't LA Reid rebrand her The Voice? Which I thought was shady because Oprah branded Whitney The Voice in 1998. Anyway they both are The Voice to me or actually they both were The Voice at one time. Infinity is growing on me. I like the vocals and the lyrics and the throwback feel but it's not the undeniable irresistible sure fire comeback hit everyone touted it to be. (Friday 1 May 2015; 0:37)

Mirage (52,587) by Randy from USA There's no way she won't be lip syncing. I called that a long time ago. In fact what you asked for, is exactly what she will be doing. I wish she would re-arrange her songs more with unplugged, sparse arrangements that she could sing in lower keys to fit her current voice. An emotional, beautiful show would be nice. But that's not MC and that's definitely not Vegas. (Thursday 30 April 2015; 1:58)

The cat's out of the bag (52,524) by Randy from USA Did that interviewer really ask MC if she would be using backing tracks? And did MC really say if there's any confusion you can come hear me sing in the shower? This is not a good look. I had no intention of seeing MC in Vegas because after seeing her during the Charmbracelet tour, lip sync all of the high full voice belt notes, I knew what this tour was going to be. What's going to destroy her legacy more than anything is the fact that she is considered one of the best singers in the world and she is not really singing. And as Infinity shows she refuses to accept the limitations of her current voice and continues to make songs that we all know she cannot sing live. (Wednesday 29 April 2015; 8:11)

Heartbreaker (52,310) by Randy from USA Bored. I'm not feeling the song. I guess it's going to have to grow on me. I was hoping for a song I would instantly love. And this is not #1 material. Jon from the Netherlands (52,040) by Randy from USA No. Nowhere near her best. That was a good performance considering what she was giving at the time, but my criticism is that she was overly using her whistle register to hide the fact that she couldn't hit high full voice notes in the song. Her best live performances are: If It's Over (take your pick venue wise), Vanishing (again take your pick venue wise), any song sung at Madison Square Garden, any song sung at MTV Unplugged, any song sung in Japan in 1996 and that impromptu Jimmy Fallon concert for fans. Nick (51,345) by Randy from USA I'm sorry. I just can't side with most of you on Nick. Here's what I think. Mariah is intelligent enough to have not married someone who would try to make a buck off of her and tell her secrets. I've watched dozens of interviews with him and he seems like the nicest most fun-loving guy and that's what she fell in love with. He has said repeatedly, he is not going to bad mouth the mother of his children and he hasn't. I don't believe he wants any money from her. I don't believe any of this tabloid trash. I do believe this divorce is taking a long time. I do wonder why. But to me both of them have been pretty silent and he's done quite a few interviews since the split. Watching from the sidelines, it seems he was too playful and too revealing in interviews and she decided to get out. That's fine however, it kinda upsets me she didn't try to work things out since she has enough songs to fill a whole album about her father's abandonment and other family issues. She should want better for her twins. Anybody else agree with me? If I'm wrong, then I would definitely feel bad about saying this. (Friday 3 April 2015; 9:22)

My All (50,400) by Randy from USA Is sick. Lyrically, vocally, production-wise one of the best pop ballads ever recorded. The drama of the final chorus. The video. I own the CD maxi-single, the My All/Stay Awhile maxi-single, the video single. It's my second favorite of all time by her, Butterfly edges it out slightly lyrically. I'm glad to see it getting love and she killed it on SNL. (Wednesday 25 February 2015; 15:17)

Jaker20 and how to get rid of the MC blues (50,047) by Randy from USA I don't like Rihanna and yet I agreed with your entire post. MC is too legendary to be so nasty to younger artists and Rihanna did sing live and I do not believe MC's Fly Like A Bird was 100% live. And yet at the time when I posted it, everyone attacked me. I'm gonna say this one last time. MC on wax is amazing. Live is something else. What the disconnect is, we can all speculate. But what everyone agrees with is image-wise, eternally 12, and being mean to other artist isn't endearing. I love her. The other day I put on a random shuffle of her catalogue and it reminded me through even my own negativity why this woman is an uncelebrated ICON. You're So Cold, I Don't Wanna Cry, Twister, Reflections, Obsession remix with Gucci, Mine Again and Without You played. Hardly any of that is related genre-wise or producer-wise and name one female artist who can write and produce such an enjoyable and diverse body of work. I challenge you all to shuffle all of MC and be reminded why we fell in love and be hopeful the voice gets straigtened out. (Thursday 12 February 2015; 0:24)
